Identifying smart design attributes for Industry 4.0 customization using a clustering Genetic Algorithm
Industry 4.0 aims at achieving mass customization at a
mass production cost. A key component to realizing this is accurate
prediction of customer needs and wants, which is however a
challenging issue due to the lack of smart analytics tools. This
paper investigates this issue in depth and then develops a predictive
analytic framework for integrating cloud computing, big data
analysis, business informatics, communication technologies, and
digital industrial production systems. Computational intelligence
in the form of a cluster k-means approach is used to manage
relevant big data for feeding potential customer needs and wants
to smart designs for targeted productivity and customized mass
production. The identification of patterns from big data is achieved
with cluster k-means and with the selection of optimal attributes
using genetic algorithms. A car customization case study shows
how it may be applied and where to assign new clusters with
growing knowledge of customer needs and wants. This approach
offer a number of features suitable to smart design in realizing

Multi-agent evolutionary systems for the generation of complex virtual worlds
Modern films, games and virtual reality applications are dependent on
convincing computer graphics. Highly complex models are a requirement for the
successful delivery of many scenes and environments. While workflows such as
rendering, compositing and animation have been streamlined to accommodate
increasing demands, modelling complex models is still a laborious task. This
paper introduces the computational benefits of an Interactive Genetic Algorithm
(IGA) to computer graphics modelling while compensating the effects of user
fatigue, a common issue with Interactive Evolutionary Computation. An
intelligent agent is used in conjunction with an IGA that offers the potential
to reduce the effects of user fatigue by learning from the choices made by the
human designer and directing the search accordingly. This workflow accelerates
the layout and distribution of basic elements to form complex models. It
captures the designer's intent through interaction, and encourages playful
discovery

A survey of intrusion detection techniques in Cloud
Cloud computing provides scalable, virtualized on-demand services to the end users with greater flexibility and lesser infrastructural investment. These services are provided over the Internet using known networking protocols, standards and formats under the supervision of different managements. Existing bugs and vulnerabilities in underlying technologies and legacy protocols tend to open doors for intrusion. This paper, surveys different intrusions affecting availability, confidentiality and integrity of Cloud resources and services. It examines proposals incorporating Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in Cloud and discusses various types and techniques of IDS and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and recommends IDS/IPS positioning in Cloud architecture to achieve desired security in the next generation networks
A Survey on Compiler Autotuning using Machine Learning
Since the mid-1990s, researchers have been trying to use machine-learning
based approaches to solve a number of different compiler optimization problems.
These techniques primarily enhance the quality of the obtained results and,
more importantly, make it feasible to tackle two main compiler optimization
problems: optimization selection (choosing which optimizations to apply) and
phase-ordering (choosing the order of applying optimizations). The compiler
optimization space continues to grow due to the advancement of applications,
increasing number of compiler optimizations, and new target architectures.
Generic optimization passes in compilers cannot fully leverage newly introduced
optimizations and, therefore, cannot keep up with the pace of increasing
options. This survey summarizes and classifies the recent advances in using
machine learning for the compiler optimization field, particularly on the two
major problems of (1) selecting the best optimizations and (2) the
phase-ordering of optimizations. The survey highlights the approaches taken so
far, the obtained results, the fine-grain classification among different
approaches and finally, the influential papers of the field.Comment: version 5.0 (updated on September 2018)- Preprint Version For our

Task Runtime Prediction in Scientific Workflows Using an Online Incremental Learning Approach
Many algorithms in workflow scheduling and resource provisioning rely on the
performance estimation of tasks to produce a scheduling plan. A profiler that
is capable of modeling the execution of tasks and predicting their runtime
accurately, therefore, becomes an essential part of any Workflow Management
System (WMS). With the emergence of multi-tenant Workflow as a Service (WaaS)
platforms that use clouds for deploying scientific workflows, task runtime
prediction becomes more challenging because it requires the processing of a
significant amount of data in a near real-time scenario while dealing with the
performance variability of cloud resources. Hence, relying on methods such as
profiling tasks' execution data using basic statistical description (e.g.,
mean, standard deviation) or batch offline regression techniques to estimate
the runtime may not be suitable for such environments. In this paper, we
propose an online incremental learning approach to predict the runtime of tasks
in scientific workflows in clouds. To improve the performance of the
predictions, we harness fine-grained resources monitoring data in the form of
time-series records of CPU utilization, memory usage, and I/O activities that
are reflecting the unique characteristics of a task's execution. We compare our
solution to a state-of-the-art approach that exploits the resources monitoring
data based on regression machine learning technique. From our experiments, the
proposed strategy improves the performance, in terms of the error, up to
29.89%, compared to the state-of-the-art solutions.Comment: Accepted for presentation at main conference track of 11th IEEE/ACM
