    We introduce a UML-based notation for graphically modeling systems’ security aspects in a simple and intuitive way and a model-driven process that transforms graphical specifications of access control policies in XACML. These XACML policies are then translated in FACPL, a policy language with a formal semantics, and the resulting policies are evaluated by means of a Java-based software tool

Enforcing the rules of the business in information systems is however not straightforward, because different mechanisms exist for the (semi-)automatic transformation of various business constraints and rules.     Enabling Machine Understandable Exchange of Energy Consumption Information in Intelligent Domotic Environments

    In the 21st century, all the major countries around the world are coming together to reduce the impact of energy generation and consumption on the global environment. Energy conservation and its efficient usage has become a top agenda on the desks of many governments. In the last decade, the drive to make homes automated and to deliver a better assisted living picked pace and the research into home automation systems accelerated, usually based on a centralized residential gateway. However most devised solutions fail to provide users with information about power consumption of different house appliances. The ability to collect power consumption information can lead us to have a more energy efficient society. The goal addressed in this paper is to enable residential gateways to provide the energy consumption information, in a machine understandable format, to support third party applications and services. To reach this goal, we propose a Semantic Energy Information Publishing Framework. The proposed framework publishes, for different appliances in the house, their power consumption information and other properties, in a machine understandable format. Appliance properties are exposed according to the existing semantic modeling supported by residential gateways, while instantaneous power consumption is modeled through a new modular Energy Profile ontolog

    Enforcing reputation constraints on business process workflows

    The problem of trust in determining the flow of execution of business processes has been in the centre of research interst in the last decade as business processes become a de facto model of Internet-based commerce, particularly with the increasing popularity in Cloud computing. One of the main mea-sures of trust is reputation, where the quality of services as provided to their clients can be used as the main factor in calculating service and service provider reputation values. The work presented here contributes to the solving of this problem by defining a model for the calculation of service reputa-tion levels in a BPEL-based business workflow. These levels of reputation are then used to control the execution of the workflow based on service-level agreement constraints provided by the users of the workflow. The main contribution of the paper is to first present a formal meaning for BPEL processes, which is constrained by reputation requirements from the users, and then we demonstrate that these requirements can be enforced using a reference architecture with a case scenario from the domain of distributed map processing. Finally, the paper discusses the possible threats that can be launched on such an architecture

However, there are challenges and constraints to determine and choose QoS requirements for high quality web services. Therefore, this paper highlights the challenges for the QoS requirements prediction as they are not easy to identify. Moreover, there are many different perspectives and purposes of web services, and various prediction techniques to describe QoS requirements.     Trading Data for Discounts: An Exploration of Unstructured Data Through Machine Learning in Wearable Technology

    The development of computing sensor devices with the capability of tracking an individual’s activity changed the way we live and move. The data collected and generated from wearable technology provides implications to the user for leading a healthy, more active lifestyle; however, the potential data uses extend beyond the user. Significant opportunity exists in the insurance industry as it relates to discounting premiums. The purpose of this research was to provide insight as to whether insurance companies should consider offering discount on premiums for policyholders who use wearable technology to track their personal fitness by identifying and suggesting potential groups of consumers to target these discounts toward. Using the platform R, researchers collected and analyzed tweets about four leading wearable technology companies including Fitbit, Jawbone, Misfit, and Withings. Both unsupervised and supervised learning techniques were pursued during the study in the form of topic modeling and artificial intelligence. Through detailed analysis, researchers determined that companies may want to consider reducing premiums for wearable technology users who use the devices for weight loss, as it would benefit both policyholders and insurance companies
