    A Survey of e-Commerce Recommender Systems

    Due to their powerful personalization and efficiency features, recommendation systems are being used extensively in many online environments. Recommender systems provide great opportunities to businesses, therefore research on developing new recommender system techniques and methods have been receiving increasing attention. This paper reviews recent developments in recommender systems in the domain of ecommerce. The main purpose of the paper is to summarize and compare the latest improvements of e-commerce recommender systems from the perspective of e-vendors. By examining the recent publications in the field, our research provides thorough analysis of current advancements and attempts to identify the existing issues in recommender systems. Final outcomes give practitioners and researchers the necessary insights and directions on recommender systems

    Deep Learning based Recommender System: A Survey and New Perspectives

    With the ever-growing volume of online information, recommender systems have been an effective strategy to overcome such information overload. The utility of recommender systems cannot be overstated, given its widespread adoption in many web applications, along with its potential impact to ameliorate many problems related to over-choice. In recent years, deep learning has garnered considerable interest in many research fields such as computer vision and natural language processing, owing not only to stellar performance but also the attractive property of learning feature representations from scratch. The influence of deep learning is also pervasive, recently demonstrating its effectiveness when applied to information retrieval and recommender systems research. Evidently, the field of deep learning in recommender system is flourishing. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of recent research efforts on deep learning based recommender systems. More concretely, we provide and devise a taxonomy of deep learning based recommendation models, along with providing a comprehensive summary of the state-of-the-art.     A semantic enhanced hybrid recommendation approach: A case study of e-Government tourism service recommendation system

Recommender systems are effectively used as a personalized information filtering technology to automatically predict and identify a set of interesting items on behalf of users according to their personal needs and preferences. Collaborative Filtering (CF) approach is commonly used in the context of recommender systems; however, obtaining better prediction accuracy and overcoming the main limitations of the standard CF recommendation algorithms, such as sparsity and cold-start item problems, remain a significant challenge. Recent developments in personalization and recommendation techniques support the use of semantic enhanced hybrid recommender systems, which incorporate ontology-based semantic similarity measure with other recommendation approaches to improve the quality of recommendations. Consequently, this paper presents the effectiveness of utilizing semantic knowledge of items to enhance the recommendation quality. It proposes a new Inferential Ontology-based Semantic Similarity (IOBSS) measure to evaluate semantic similarity between items in a specific domain of interest by taking into account their explicit hierarchical relationships, shared attributes and implicit relationships. The paper further proposes a hybrid semantic enhanced recommendation approach by combining the new IOBSS measure and the standard item-based CF approach. A set of experiments with promising results validates the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid approach, using a case study of the Australian e-Government tourism services

    A hybrid recommendation approach for a tourism system

    Many current e-commerce systems provide personalization when their content is shown to users. In this sense, recommender systems make personalized suggestions and provide information of items available in the system. Nowadays, there is a vast amount of methods, including data mining techniques that can be employed for personalization in recommender systems. However, these methods are still quite vulnerable to some limitations and shortcomings related to recommender environment. In order to deal with some of them, in this work we implement a recommendation methodology in a recommender system for tourism, where classification based on association is applied. Classification based on association methods, also named associative classification methods, consist of an alternative data mining technique, which combines concepts from classification and association in order to allow association rules to be employed in a prediction context. The proposed methodology was evaluated in some case studies, where we could verify that it is able to shorten limitations presented in recommender systems and to enhance recommendation quality

    Goal-based hybrid filtering for user-to-user Personalized Recommendation

    Recommendation systems are gaining great importance with e-Learning and multimedia on the internet. It fails in some situations such as new-user profile (cold-start) issue. To overcome this issue, we propose a novel goalbased hybrid approach for user-to-user personalized similarity recommendation and present its performance accuracy. This work also helps to improve collaborative filtering using k-nearest neighbor as neighborhood collaborative filtering (NCF) and content-based filtering as content-based collaborative filtering (CBCF). The purpose of combining k-nn with recommendation approaches is to increase the relevant recommendation accuracy and decrease the new-user profile (cold-start) issue. The proposed goal-based approach associated with nearest neighbors, compare personalized profile preferences and get the similarities between users.     An effective recommender system by unifying user and item trust information for B2B applications

Although Collaborative Filtering (CF)-based recommender systems have received great success in a variety of applications, they still under-perform and are unable to provide accurate recommendations when users and items have few ratings, resulting in reduced coverage. To overcome these limitations, we propose an effective hybrid user-item trust-based (HUIT) recommendation approach in this paper that fuses the users' and items' implicit trust information. We have also considered and computed user and item global reputations into this approach. This approach allows the recommender system to make an increased number of accurate predictions, especially in circumstances where users and items have few ratings. Experiments on four real-world datasets, particularly a business-to-business (B2B) case study, show that the proposed HUIT recommendation approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms in terms of recommendation accuracy and coverage, as well as significantly alleviating data sparsity, cold-start user and cold-start item problems

    In the era of big data, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms have the potential to revolutionize healthcare by improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs. AI algorithms have frequently been used in health care for predictive modelling, image analysis and drug discovery. Moreover, as a recommender system, these algorithms have shown promising impacts on personalized healthcare provision. A recommender system learns the behaviour of the user and predicts their current preferences (recommends) based on their previous preferences. Implementing AI as a recommender system improves this prediction accuracy and solves cold start and data sparsity problems. However, most of the methods and algorithms are tested in a simulated setting which cannot recapitulate the influencing factors of the real world. This review article systematically reviews prevailing methodologies in recommender systems and discusses the AI algorithms as recommender systems specifically in the field of healthcare. It also provides discussion around the most cutting-edge academic and practical contributions present in the literature, identifies performance evaluation matrices, challenges in the implementation of AI as a recommender system, and acceptance of AI-based recommender systems by clinicians. The findings of this article direct researchers and professionals to comprehend currently developed recommender systems and the future of medical devices integrated with real-time recommender systems for personalized healthcare

    Novel Methods Using Human Emotion and Visual Features for Recommending Movies

    Postponed access: the file will be accessible after 2022-06-01This master thesis investigates novel methods using human emotion as contextual information to estimate and elicit ratings when watching movie trailers. The aim is to acquire user preferences without the intrusive and time-consuming behavior of Explicit Feedback strategies, and generate quality recommendations. The proposed preference-elicitation technique is implemented as an Emotion-based Filtering technique (EF) to generate recommendations, and is evaluated against two other recommendation techniques. One Visual-based Filtering technique, using low-level visual features of movies, and one Collaborative Filtering (CF) using explicit ratings. In terms of \textit{Accuracy}, we found the Emotion-based Filtering technique (EF) to perform better than the two other filtering techniques. In terms of \textit{Diversity}, the Visual-based Filtering (VF) performed best. We further analyse the obtained data to see if movie genres tend to induce specific emotions, and the potential correlation between emotional responses of users and visual features of movie trailers. When investigating emotional responses, we found that \textit{joy} and \textit{disgust} tend to be more prominent in movie genres than other emotions. Our findings also suggest potential correlations on a per movie level. The proposed Visual-based Filtering technique can be adopted as an Implicit Feedback strategy to obtain user preferences. For future work, we will extend the experiment with more participants and build stronger affective profiles to be studied when recommending movies.Masteroppgave i informasjonsvitenskapINFO390MASV-INF
