open access articleWireless Sensor Network is a network of large number of nodes with limited power and computational capabilities. It has the potential of event monitoring in unattended locations where there is a chance of unauthorized access. The work that is presented here identifies and addresses the problem of eavesdropping in the exposed environment of the sensor network, which makes it easy for the adversary to trace the packets to find the originator source node, hence compromising the contextual privacy. Our scheme provides an enhanced three-level security system for source location privacy. The base station is at the center of square grid of four quadrants and it is surrounded by a ring of flooding nodes, which act as a first step in confusing the adversary. The fake node is deployed in the opposite quadrant of actual source and start reporting base station. The selection of phantom node using our algorithm in another quadrant provides the third level of confusion. The results show that Dissemination in Wireless Sensor Networks (DeLP) has reduced the energy utilization by 50% percent, increased the safety period by 26%, while providing a six times more packet delivery ratio along with a further 15% decrease in the packet delivery delay as compared to the tree-based scheme. It also provides 334% more safety period than the phantom routing, while it lags behind in other parameters due to the simplicity of phantom scheme. This work illustrates the privacy protection of the source node and the designed procedure may be useful in designing more robust algorithms for location privac

Wireless Sensors Network (WSN) is an emergent technology that aims to offer innovative capacities. In the last decade, the use of these networks increased in various fields like military, science, and health due to their fast and inexpressive deployment and installation. However, the limited sensor battery lifetime poses many technical challenges and affects essential services like routing. This issue is a hot topic of search, many researchers have proposed various routing protocols aimed at reducing the energy consumption in WSNs. The focus of this work is to investigate the effectiveness of integrating ACO algorithm with routing protocols in WSNs. Moreover, it presents a novel approach inspired by ant colony optimization (ACO) to be deployed as a new routing protocol that addresses key challenges in wireless sensor networks. The proposed protocol can significantly minimize nodes energy consumption, enhance the network lifetime, reduce latency, and expect performance in various scenarios

A Routing Algorithm for Extending Mobile Sensor Network’s Lifetime using Connectivity and Target Coverage

In this paper, we propose an approach to improving the network lifetime by enhancing Network CONnectivity (NCON) and Target COVerage (TCOV) in randomly deployed Mobile Sensor Network (MSN). Generally, MSN refers to the collection of independent and scattered sensors with the capability of being mobile, if need be. Target coverage, network connectivity, and network lifetime are the three most critical issues of MSN. Any MSN formed with a set of randomly distributed sensors should be able to select and successfully activate some subsets of nodes so that they completely monitor or cover the entire Area of Interest (AOI). Network connectivity, on the other hand ensures that the nodes are connected for the full lifetime of the network so that collection and reporting of data to the sink node are kept uninterrupted through the sensor nodes. Keeping these three critical aspects into consideration, here we propose Socratic Random Algorithm (SRA) that ensures efficient target coverage and network connectivity alongside extending the lifetime of the network. The proposed method has been experimentally compared with other existing alternative mechanisms taking appropriate performance metrics into consideration. Our simulation results and analysis show that SRA performs significantly better than the existing schemes in the recent literature

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have emerged as a crucial component in the field of networking due to their cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compact size, making them invaluable for various applications. However, as the reliance on WSN-dependent applications continues to grow, these networks grapple with inherent limitations such as memory and computational constraints. Therefore, effective solutions require immediate attention, especially in the age of the Internet of Things (IoT), which largely relies on the effectiveness of WSNs. This study undertakes a comprehensive review of research conducted between 2018 and 2020, categorizing it into six main domains: 1) Providing an overview of WSN applications, management, and security considerations. 2) Focusing on routing and energy-saving techniques. 3) Reviewing the development of methods for information gathering, emphasizing data integrity and privacy. 4) Emphasizing connectivity and positioning techniques. 5) Examining studies that explore the integration of IoT technology into WSNs with an eye on secure data transmission. 6) Highlighting research efforts aimed at energy efficiency. The study addresses the motivation behind employing WSN applications in IoT technologies, as well as the challenges, obstructions, and solutions related to their application and development. It underscores that energy consumption remains a paramount issue in WSNs, with untapped potential for improving energy efficiency while ensuring robust security. Furthermore, it identifies existing approaches' weaknesses, rendering them inadequate for achieving energy-efficient routing in secure WSNs. This review sheds light on the critical challenges and opportunities in the field, contributing to a deeper understanding of WSNs and their role in secure IoT applications

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has been studied for more than a decades that resulted in evolution of the significant applications towards assisting in sensing physical information from human inaccesible area. It was also observed from existing sysem that energy attribute is the root cause of majority of the problems associated with WSN that also gives rise to various operational reliability issue. Therefore, the prime goal of the proposed study is to present a novel predictive optimization approach of data fusion in order to jointly address the problems associated with energy efficiency and reliable operation of sensor nodes in WSN. An analytical research approach is carried out in order to ensure that a time-based synchronization scheme contributes to offer an evolutionary approach towards significant energy optimization. A simulation-based benchmarking analysis is carried out to find that proposed system offers good energy-efficient performance in comparison to existing approaches
