A Method Based on a Nonlinear Generalized Heisenberg Algebra to Study the Molecular Vibrational Spectrum
We propose a method, based on a Generalized Heisenberg Algebra (GHA), to
reproduce the anharmonic spectrum of diatomic molecules. The theoretical
spectrum generated by GHA allows us to fit the experimental data and to obtain
the dissociation energy for the carbon monoxide molecule. Our outcomes are more
accurate than the standard models used to study molecular vibrations, namely
the Morse and the -oscillator models and comparable to the perturbed Morse
model proposed by Huffaker \cite{hf}, for the first experimental levels. The
dissociation energy obtained here is more accurate than all previous models
Photodissociation of Cl_2O at 248 and 308 nm
Molecular beam studies of Cl_2O photolysis at 248 and 308 nm have been repeated and the analysis refined. At 248 nm, three distinct dissociation pathways that led to Cl+ClO products were resolved. At 308 nm, the angular distribution was slightly more isotropic than previously reported, leaving open the possibility that Cl_2O excited at 308 nm lives longer than a rotational period
Rocks and Rockets: Oslo's Inevitable Conclusion
Though the al-Aqsa intifada took the world by surprise, Palestinians are now almost unanimous in attributing its scope to the failures of Oslo. The author analyzes these failures from to perspectives: those concerning implementation and structural flaws. In describing the unfolding of the intifada and particularly its militarization, the author analyzes the primordial role of Fatah, the single most important factor in transforming the early clashes into a sustained rebellion
Protect our pubs!
Protect Our Pubs! is a project examining the notion of the nationalisation of pubs by the state. It involved a protest, audio tours of the pub, posters protesting at the notion, a contest for the smartest barperson, peg drinking contest, a flighting contest and various documentation. The protest and subsequent events took place at the Hare & Hounds Pub in the Midlands
STUDY ON THE STUDENTS LEARNING STRATEGIES IN \ud LISTENING COMPREHENSION AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF UMM
As one of the components of language teaching, listening takes a longest part among other \ud
language skills. It becomes a starter to learn language. Students cannot be able to interpret \ud
message accurately and creatively if their listening is not good. It means that listening plays an \ud
important role in teaching learning process. Therefore, this research is needed to conduct in \ud
identifying the learning strategies in order to increase the result of students listening \ud
comprehension. \ud
The purposes of this study were to know the kinds and the most dominant learning strategies \ud
used by students in listening comprehension at English department of UMM. \ud
This study used descriptive qualitative research design. The population taken for this study were \ud
the second semester students of English department of UMM in which they took listening two. \ud
The total numbers of them were 263 students. The writer applied simple random sampling to \ud
take the sample. In selecting the sample, it involves defining the population, identifying each \ud
member of population and selecting individual randomly for the sample. The writer took 53 \ud
students as the samples. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire and interview. \ud
The result of this study showed that the learning strategies used by students in listening \ud
comprehension at English department of UMM were cognitive strategies, metacognitive \ud
strategies and socioaffective strategies. While the most dominant strategies used by students of \ud
listening comprehension at English department of UMM was cognitive strategies
Dynamical thermal behavior and thermal self-stability of microcavities
As stability and continuous operation are important for almost any use of a microcavity, we demonstrate here experimentally and theoretically a self-stable equilibrium solution for a pump-microcavity system. In this stable equilibrium, intensity- and wavelength-perturbations cause a small thermal resonant-drift that is enough to compensate for the perturbation (noises); consequently the cavity stays warm and loaded as perturbations are self compensated. We also compare here, our theoretical prediction for the thermal line broadening (and for the wavelength hysteretic response) to experimental results
A tale of two melons : emperor and subject in Ming China
In the insightful analysis of their story, Schneewind uncovers the meanings assigned to this pair
of melons by those who were in attendance when the fruits were presented to the emperor and by those who wrote about them afterward
Integrated probability of coronary heart disease subject to the -308 tumor necrosis factor-alpha SNP: a Bayesian meta-analysis
We present a meta-analysis of independent studies on the potential
implication in the occurrence of coronary heart disease (CHD) of the
single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at the -308 position of the tumor necrosis
factor alpha (TNF-alpha) gene. We use Bayesian analysis to integrate
independent data sets and to infer statistically robust measurements of
correlation. Bayesian hypothesis testing indicates that there is no preference
for the hypothesis that the -308 TNF-alpha SNP is related to the occurrence of
CHD, in the Caucasian or in the Asian population, over the null hypothesis. As
a measure of correlation, we use the probability of occurrence of CHD
conditional on the presence of the SNP, derived as the posterior probability of
the Bayesian meta-analysis. The conditional probability indicates that CHD is
not more likely to occur when the SNP is present, which suggests that the -308
TNF-alpha SNP is not implicated in the occurrence of CHD.Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures, Published in PeerJ (2015
