This report summarizes the vegetable variety evaluations of the Horticulture Department of
the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, 1982. Variety trials were all conducted at the Agricultural
Experiment Station’s research farm at Fairbanks.
The objective of this research is to select varieties of vegetables that are adapted to this environment.
It also identifies types whose adaptability may be improved through development of
improved cultural techniques. The selection effort is directed at finding varieties useful to both

The effect of pitch span on intonational plateaux
Previous research has indicated that the H (high) of a nuclear accent may be realized as a flat stretch of contour rather than as a single turning point. Both the duration of this plateau and its alignment within the accented syllable are affected by the segmental and prosodic structure of the utterance. The present work investigates whether a non-structural variable, namely pitch span, also affects the realization of the plateau. Speakers replicated all-sonorant utterances in different pitch spans. Results show that both the duration and alignment of the plateau vary with pitch span but in ways different from the way they vary with prosodic structure. Importantly, results also indicate that, when using a proportional measure of alignment, the end of the plateau is anchored within the syllable for each speaker and may be a marker of linguistic structure
Optimization of stand-alone photovoltaic system by implementing fuzzy logic MPPT controller
A photovoltaic (PV) generator is a nonlinear device having insolation-dependent
volt-ampere characteristics. Since the maximum-power point varies with solar
insolation, it is difficult to achieve an optimum matching that is valid for all
insolation levels. Thus, Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) plays an
important roles in photovoltaic (PV) power systems because it maximize the
power output from a PV system for a given set of condition, and therefore
maximize their array efficiency. This project presents a maximum power point
tracker (MPPT) using Fuzzy Logic theory for a PV system. The work is focused
on a comparative study between most conventional controller namely Perturb and
Observe (P&O) algorithm and is compared to a design fuzzy logic controller
(FLC). The introduction of fuzzy controller has given very good performance on
whatever the parametric variation of the system
GENETIC COUNSELOR UTILIZATION AND INTERPRETATION OF SOMATIC TUMOR TESTING IN EVALUATION FOR LYNCH SYNDROME
Lynch syndrome (LS) is a hereditary cancer predisposition syndrome characterized by increased risk for colorectal and uterine cancers. Individuals with pathogenic variants in the mismatch repair (MMR) genes (MLH1, MSH2/EPCAM, MSH6, PMS2) are diagnosed with LS and subsequently recommended to proceed with high risk screening protocols to increase prevention and early detection of LS-related cancers. Various tumor studies can help identify those at high risk for LS, but sometimes create uncertainty with discordant screening and germline results, leading to unexplained mismatch repair deficiency (UMMRD). Somatic testing of the MMR genes has created opportunities for resolving UMMRD, thus clarifying LS status and ensuring appropriate cancer surveillance. However, guidelines for such testing are currently limited. The purpose of this study was to examine current and hypothetical ordering practices of cancer genetic counselors for LS evaluation and to investigate participants’ interpretation of somatic MMR testing results. Two-hundred eligible participants were recruited through the National Society of Genetic Counselors listserv and answered questions regarding demographics, ordering practices, barriers to somatic MMR testing, theoretical patient scenarios, and need for further guidelines. Statistical analysis was done using Chi-square, Fisher exact, and Wilcoxon rank-sum tests while themes were identified from free-text responses. Most respondents did not include somatic MMR testing in the work-up for LS and did not routinely order this testing, but indicated interest in ordering this in conjunction with germline testing. The gap between preferred testing strategies and current ordering practices for somatic MMR testing may be due to reported laboratory and insurance-related barriers, particularly cost and coordination of tissue specimens. Nearly all individuals endorsed the need for additional guidelines for somatic MMR testing, which could provide support to reduce barriers, encourage insurance coverage, and allow for appropriate screening recommendations for patients and family members of those with UMMRD
