A state\u27s image as perceived by its actual and potential tourists plays a significant role in determining its competitiveness as a tourist destination. A state\u27s image influences a tourist\u27s vacation destination decisions. A tourist\u27s image of a given state is influenced by numerous factors including his amount of touring experience within that state, geographical affiliation, demographic profile, vacation characteristics, and the amount and source of tourist information used. Utah was used as a case study to test the viability of the proposed research model. A mail questionnaire requested information concerning 1) attributes of Utah\u27s tourist image considered when choosing a vacation destination, 2) amount of Utah touring experience in Utah, 3) geographical affiliation, 4) demographic profile, 5) characteristics of the vacation and 6) amounts/sources of tourist information used. A sample of 6,000 people was contacted in six geographical regions across the country. A total of 1917 (32%) useable surveys were returned. This research study to identified the components of Utah\u27s tourist image. The study concluded that touring experience in Utah affects their perceptions of Utah\u27s tourist image. Additionally, the study determined that geographical affiliation does influence perceptions of Utah. Finally, it found that age differences and modes of transportation influence perceptions of Utah

The objective of this thesis is to research into an integrated knowledge-based simulation method, which combines the capability of knowledge based simulation and a structured analysis method, for the design and analysis of complex and hierarchical manufacturing organizations. This means manufacturing organizations analysed according to this methodology can manage the tactical and operational planning as well as the direct operation of shop floor. [Continues.

Should universities and social work employers use mentors in the revised post qualifying social work education structure?

    Get PDF
Within social work Post Qualifying (PQ) education awards, the mentor advises and sometimes assesses qualified social workers' performance and written work against set national criteria. Is this a valued and unambiguous role that should be carried forward when the new PQ framework starts in 2006 or is it one that should be questioned and analysed? This study explores whether mentoring could be used within the new PQ framework, by considering the results of ten semistructured in-depth interviews with managers and academics involved in the strategic and operational provision of PQSW in the Advance PQ Consortium. A review of the literature showed the value of mentoring and details of the outgoing PQ mentor role. It is concluded that the expectations of the new workplace assessor role are apt, including the skills of mentoring and coaching, which are taught on new PQ courses. It is recommended that generic mentoring schemes, whereby one person assists a less experienced individual to focus on his or her personal and professional development should be available within social care agencies for all social workers as part of a human resource strategy. It is suggested that mentoring and assessment roles should be included and remunerated within social workers' job descriptions. Moreover, this would formalise social workers' contribution to their and others continuous professional and personal development, support the new PQ framework, the GSCC Codes of Practice (2002) and contribute to staff retention

In today's business environment where the pace of growth has tremendously expanded, logistics has played an important role not only as supporting elements in organizations but has also influenced the performance of organizations tremendously. In relation to the logistics masterplan that has been developed by the Malaysian government, logistics performance is crucial to the support of technology capability that is facilitated with appropriate work ethics. In investigating the issues concerned, this study examined the moderating effect of work ethics on technology capability and logistics performance. Additionally, this study also investigated the importance of technology capability and logistics performance. In relation to the research objectives, proportionate stratified random sampling was used in this study as the logistics industry includes three major industries which are land and rail, airfreight, and sea freight, and to cater across the logistics industry 234 questionnaires were distributed to respondents from the Malaysian logistics organizations, and 133 usable responses, representing a 56.84% response rate, were empirically tested using the structural equation modelling by using SPSS and SmartPLS. Tests and analysis were done in relation to three main hypotheses that had been developed based on the theoretical framework. The findings justified the positive relationship between technology capability and logistics performance while, on the other hand, work ethics was found as an element that that does not affect logistics performance. The findings further revealed that work ethics do not moderate the technology capability and logistics performance relationship. On the other hand, it intensifies the necessity of work ethics to be legalized and enforced to ensure the practice of work ethics is implemented appropriately in an organization. Limitations and recommendations for future research are also discusse

Some hospital administrators experience yearly loss of human capital, resulting in economic and noneconomic consequences that require resource reallocation to sustain operations. Grounded in the cultural humility theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between nurses’ perceptions of their nurse managers’ (a) openness, (b) self-awareness, (c) egolessness, (d) self-reflection and critique, (e) supportive interaction, and nurse turnover intention. Participants included 142 registered nurses working in the Midwest United States. Data were collected using Foronda’s Cultural Humility Scale and the Michigan Organizational Assessment Questionnaire. Results of multiple regression analysis indicated the model could significantly predict nurse turnover intentions, F(5, 135) = 5.285, p \u3c .001, R2 = .164. Supportive interaction was the only significant predictor (t = -3.003, p = .003). A key recommendation is for healthcare leaders to implement cultural humility practices including supportive interactions to drive nurse retention efforts. Implications for social change include increased health system sustainability and safe healthcare accessibility for consumers
