José Revueltas y la filosofía latinoamericana:imágenes cinematográficas del mundo

En este artículo sostengo que la obra del escritor mexicano José Revueltas Sánchez (1914-1976) se aleja de las convenciones de la filosofía latinoamericana, al dejar atrás la experiencia del lamento y la nostalgia por la unidad perdida, así como el extravío del ser sepultado por el colonialismo. Argumento, además, que a ello Revueltas opone un pensamiento sin finalidad y un análisis antimoralista de la verdad. Para lograrlo, postulo que Revueltas utiliza un método basado en la construcción de una imagen cinematográfica del pensamiento. Esto permite construir otra imagen de América Latina, y de su filosofía, por fuera de la moral del sufrimiento o la victimización por parte de Europa. Esa imagen es la de Latinoamérica como isla y no como continente

Segmented stochastic convergence across the G-7 countries

This paper analyzes the stochastic convergence in per capita income levels among the current G-7 over the period 1900-89. We show that, in the presence of possible structural breaks, the strong condition of stationary pair-wise differences between per capita GDP holds in many more cases than generally supposed. However, it occurs more frequently in the first part of the time sample than in the second one

Film Adaption and Transnational Cultures or Production: The Case of Guillermo Arriaga

The circulation of Latin American cinema in a transnational context has widened the options that actors and directors from the region have regarding their involvement in the different aspects of film production. In order to analyze Guillermo Arriaga’s transnational career as a writer of novels and screenplays I contrast his work with that of other writers and filmmakers who have participated in both the cinematic and literary fields. The fact that Arriaga has crossed the lines between writing, adapting, and directing his own works in Spanish and English leads me to review the current relations of film and literature in general. Finally, by comparing Arriaga’s novels and films, I propose that the contemporary practice of film adaptation contributes to the “flexibilization” in the roles writers, actors, and directors play in filmmaking and in the circulation of cultural capital between film and literature in the current media markets
