Homonymy and syntactic contamination: Old Norse-Icelandic and Old Swedish at

    No full text
The paper studies the evolution of the uses of at in Old Norse-Icelandic and in Old Swedish. It provides a description of its different functions (preposition, adverb, infinitive particle, and conjunction) and discusses their origins as well as the consequences of this extreme polyfunctionality: contamination between uses in Icelandic, and phonetic differentiation and avoidance in Swedish

Acknowledging the historic presence of justice in climate research

    No full text
In a recent Perspective, Zimm et al argue that “there is no consistent approach to comprehensively incorporate and examine justice considerations” in climate research. In reality, existing scholarship on environmental and climate justice has long examined the intersection of climate change impacts and social inequality, including along class, race, nationality and gender divides, among others. The existing literature from both social and scholarly movements provides a wealth of cross-disciplinary frameworks, indicators, and concepts which are missing from the paper. The paper is illustrative of a broader trend in recent environmental and climate justice scholarship that tends to gloss over and obscure the origins of environmental justice. It raises questions about the epistemology of climate justice, research ethics and power relations in climate research, and whose knowledge counts in policy discussions on climate change. We argue that recognizing and acknowledging historical foundations, academic and grassroots contributions for climate justice is the first step towards achieving justice in mitigation and adaptation

Mepacrine flow cytometry assay for the diagnosis of platelet δ-granule defects : literature review on methods - towards a shared detailed protocol.

    No full text
Accurate assessment of platelet secretion is essential for the diagnosis of inherited or acquired platelet function disorders (PFDs) and more specifically in identifying δ-storage pool disease. Mepacrine, a fluorescent dye, specifically accumulates in platelet δ-granules. The mepacrine flow cytometry (FCM) assay has been used for more than half a century in the clinical laboratory as a diagnostic tool for platelet δ-granule disorders. The assay requires a small volume of blood, can be performed in thrombocytopenic patients, provides rapid assessment of δ-granule content and secretion and, thus, enables differentiation between storage and release defects. FCM has been shown to have added value compared to light transmission aggregometry. There is however a broad heterogeneity in methods, reagents, and equipment used. Lack of standardization and limited data on analytical and clinical performances have led the 2022 ISTH SSC Subcommittee on Platelet Physiology expert consensus to rate this assay as simple but of uncertain value. Yet, the data used by experts to formulate the recommendations were not discussed and even not mentioned. Guidance for laboratory studies of platelet secretion assay would be very helpful for clinical laboratories and health authorities especially considering the implications of the new In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation (IVDR) in Europe. The purpose of the present work was to systematically review the reported methodologies for the mepacrine FCM assay and to offer an example of detailed protocol. This would help standardization and pave the way for more rigorous comparative studies

Négationnisme, liberté d'expression et recherche historique : la mémoire encadrée par le droit

    No full text

The origin and the development of the Brabantine Nation (1355-1406). Historical Representation or Historiographical Construction?

    No full text
Was there a nation in Brabant in the XIVth century? Which form did such a concept take? Which actors – ducal, official, urban, nobles, etc. – had their place in it and what role did they all take? Through the cross-referencing of this book’s research on premodern nations, with the Belgian historiography constructing the Brabant nation, and the medieval chronicles, our analysis tends to prove the existence of a nation in the territories inherited by the duchess Joanna and her husband, Wenceslas of Luxembourg. The premises for such a construction were set early on in Brabant, Limbourg and the Outre-Meuse lands, thanks to the Charter of Kortenberg. However, the XIXth century historians put an emphasis on the Joyous Entry as the main symbol of the creation of a nation in Brabant in 1356. This research tries to find a more subtle definition by balancing the different charters – the Joyous Entry as well as the Kortenberg charter – with the political roles of the different groups and the exterior sources of authority
