Although limited, research on paremiological variation constitutes a valuable contribution to achieving a more balanced representation of the various voices within the Hispanophony. An even smaller number of studies have explored the connection between paremiology and corpus linguistics, partly attributable to the structural and semantic complexity of paremias. This work aims to shed light on the advantages of combining these two disciplines. This article is the result of a corpus-based study on geoparemiological variation. We have worked with two lexical variants of a proverb: the first, traditionally considered canonical in the European context; the second, which, according to our findings, has attained the status of reference form on the American continent. After identifying global patterns of dispersion for the lexical variants in question, an interterritorial comparison was conducted on their diffusion and frequency in two macro-varieties of contemporary Spanish: Rioplatense Spanish and European Spanish. This methodological approach to paremiology opens new lines of investigation, providing an enriching perspective on the proverb as a unit of linguistic and cultural analysis. Additionally, this methodology for data consultation and collection is of significant relevance to other fields of knowledge, such as language acquisition and translation, insofar as it enables the identification of functional and translation equivalents across the various geolinguistic varieties of Spanish
O come J.R.R.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s renowned fantasy work, The Lord of the Rings, has a notably complex history in Russia. The country’s ongoing state of change during the decades has influenced the trilogy’s fate, turning it into a mirror of the dynamics of assimilation, appropriation, and transformation that are characteristic of Russian culture. In the Soviet Union, the trilogy was censored as a symbol of Western decadence. However, this did not prevent the clandestine circulation (the so-called samizdat) of amateur translations, many of which were not published until after 1991. On the contrary, it prompted unique narrative experiments with the fantasy genre, which was nearly absent in the USSR. One illustrative example from the mid-1960s is Zinaida Bobyr’s early translation of the trilogy, The Lay of the Ring (Povest’ o Kol’tse). In her failed bid for publication, Bobyr adapted the work to fit the conventions of science fiction, a genre favored by Soviet censorship. Consequently, the magical deeds associated with the Ring are rationally explained by a group of scientists using a narrative device invented by Bobyr to enhance the original’s scientific and cognitive potential. Using The Lay of the Ring as a case study, this paper aims to examine how Tolkien’s work was altered under the USSR’s censorship regime, with a particular focus on the assimilation and metamorphosis of foreign cultural models

English and its Lingua Flankas: Some systematic features of English-based cryptic anti-languages
This article explores the dual nature of language as a tool for both inclusion and exclusion. It discusses the phenomenon of anti-languages distinguishing between incomprehensibility and crypticity, and highlighting how certain linguistic features can be decoded through systematic mechanisms. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of various forms of crypticity in English, including the use of cross linguistic borrowings (real or invented), reduction, transposition (e.g. backslang), and rhyming slang, illustrating how these features serve to obstruct comprehension while simultaneously offering access to the initiated few. Inevitably, given the nature of the subject matter, some of the lexis and the expressions discussed may be obscene in nature and offensive to some readers.
