    Get PDF

EnThe following paper aims to investigate the life and works of Giovenale Vegezzi Ruscalla. Among these is the historical-statistical memoir about the Waldensians written in the year 1829. The document, aimed at favouring Carlo Felice's conservative policy, strategically sublimates the magnanimity of the House of Savoy towards religious dissidents. Juvenal, corroborating his narrative through recourse to Catholic sources, accused Protestant chronicles of reporting historical and statistical data that were often misleading

The aim of this study is to contribute to the reading of the TB in reference to the interpretation of the acronyms that indicate the collaborators to the work. These are the acronyms indicated in square brackets, which were identified thanks to the digitalization of the text. In this way, it was possible to give an account of the contributions of individuals to the work, identifying for each collaborator the main role and the individual lexical specificities. Together, some typographical inconsistencies are given: some of the acronyms in square brackets do not indicate collaborators, but texts used as sources in the body of the TB. This has also allowed us to start the work of updating the bibliographical acronyms themselves

The Performative and Transformative Site of Homosexuality in Call Me by Your Name. Translating Queer Fuck into Chinese

    Get PDF
André Aciman’s highly acclaimed English queer novel, Call Me by Your Name (Call 2007), won the Lambda Literary Award for Best Gay Fiction in 2007. The novel has been translated into four Chinese editions; two editions in simplified Chinese published by two publishing houses in the Chinese mainland and two in traditional Chinese issued by a Taiwanese publisher. Applying the descriptive framework of verbal camp (Harvey 2000) and incorporating the three modes of translation proposed by Marc Démont (2017) in queer literary texts, the article conducts a textual comparative study of the term fuck across six instances in the four Chinese editions published in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan in 2009, 2012, and 2018. This article seeks to answer the following questions: How is the term fuck rendered differently in the four translations? In what ways are these translations shaped by social and political contexts? What are the socio-political implications of these renditions? The comparative study will highlight shifts in translations across various cultural and political contexts and discuss their ideological implications

Weibull Sine Generalized Distribution Family: Fundamental Properties, Sub-model, Simulations, with Biomedical Applications

    Get PDF
This study explores the integration of trigonometric functions into traditional statistical models, focusing on the development of the Weibull Sine Generalized (WSG-G) family of distributions. A special case was formulated name Weibull Sine generalized exponential (WSG-E) distribution. This new distribution extends the baseline exponential distribution, accommodating heavier tails and outliers, thereby effectively modeling positively skewed data. Key statistics such as mean, variance, skewness, and kurtosis indicate the distribution's capacity to handle clustered data. A simulation study demonstrates the performance of Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE), revealing convergence in the mean squared error and root mean squared error for the parameter α \alpha with increasing sample sizes, although convergence is less evident for other parameters. The WSG-E distribution's applicability is further illustrated through its fitting of medical datasets on bladder cancer remission times and growth hormone deficiency in children, both characterized by extreme values. Overall, the WSG-E distribution proves to be a robust model for skewed data, and future research could extend this framework to additional continuous distributions

Statistical Inference for the Unit Inverse Weibull Distribution Using Ranked Set Sampling with COVID-19 Application

This study compares parameter estimation methods for the unit inverseWeibull distribution under ranked set sampling (RSS) and simple randomsampling (SRS). We examine Maximum Product Spacing Estimation, Ordi-nary Least Squares Estimation, Maximum Likelihood Estimation, WeightedLeast Squares Estimation, Anderson-Darling Estimation, Left-Tail Anderson-Darling Estimation, Right-Tail Anderson-Darling Estimation, Cram´er-vonMises Estimation, Minimum Spacing Absolute Distance Estimation, Mini-mum Spacing Square Distance Estimation, Minimum Spacing Absolute-LogDistance Estimation, and Minimum Spacing Square Log Distance Estima-tion. Monte Carlo simulations evaluate estimator performance using meansquared error, bias, and mean absolute relative error. A COVID-19 datasetvalidates the practical applicability of the methods. Results show RSS-basedestimators consistently outperform SRS counterparts across all metrics andestimation techniques. RSS demonstrates superior accuracy with reducedbias and lower mean squared error, particularly in small sample scenar-ios. These findings establish RSS as the preferred approach for unit inverseWeibull parameter estimation, providing significant improvements in statis-tical efficiency and reliability for practical applications

    Get PDF
EnThe mythical narrative of the god Pan exemplifies the dynamic nature of ancient Greek myths, conceived as living organisms in constant evolution, open to revisions and reinterpretations. In particular, the god's death and rebirth acquire, in the modern age, a symbolic significance reflecting the enduring legacy of classical culture and its models. This paper explores the transformations of the myth, tracing its development from ancient sources to its reinterpretations in twentieth-century Italian poetry, with a special focus on Pascoli and D'Annunzio
