    Get PDF
Purpose – This study aims to analyze the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosure in moderating the effect of earnings management (EM) on firm market value. Method – The researcher employed a panel data regression method with a moderating variable approach. The sample consists of consumer cyclical companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the years 2022 and 2023. Findings – The results show that earnings management (EM) does not have a significant effect on firm market value. However, the level of CSR disclosure has a positive and significant impact on market value, indicating that investors respond positively to greater transparency in social and environmental reporting. Additionally, CSR disclosure is not proven to moderate the relationship between EM and firm market value. Implications – These findings have important implications for corporate management, regulators such as the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the Indonesia Stock Exchange in formulating policies that promote social accountability and limit earnings management practices. Originality – The novelty of this study lies in the use of prior-year CSR data to capture the delayed effect of information on investor decision-making, as well as the application of a content analysis approach based on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) items to enhance the validity of CSR disclosure measurement

ESG and firm value: The moderating role of firm-specific contexts in Indonesia

    No full text
Purpose – This study aims to examine the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance on firm market value, while incorporating firm-specific contexts such as downside risk and upside potential as moderating variables. Methods – A quantitative approach was employed, using data from firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2018–2022 that had ESG scores from S&P Global Ratings. A total of 176 firm years were selected and analyzed using moderated regression analysis. Findings - The results reveal a negative relationship between ESG performance and firm value. However, financial risk and environmental risk significantly mitigate the negative impact of ESG on firm value, while financial stability and sales growth do not moderate the relationship. These findings emphasize that investors in emerging markets perceive ESG differently than those in developed economies. Implications - This research provides theoretical implications by enriching the literature on investor responses to ESG in developing countries, and practical insights for managers and investors in using ESG as a risk management tool.. Originality - Unlike prior studies in developed markets that highlight ESG’s positive role, this study shows that Indonesian investors tend to view ESG negatively unless it serves as an effective risk-reduction mechanism, highlighting the importance of firm-specific contexts

Technological advancements and digital breakthroughs have prompted the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, in collaboration with the National Land Agency, to modernize land administration by implementing electronic land registration through digital certificates. In 2021, the introduction of Electronic Land Certificates (STE) began with the release of Regulation Number 1 of 2021 by the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency. This regulation was subsequently replaced and updated with Regulation Number 3 of 2023, focusing on the issuance of digital documents within land registration processes. Despite its benefits, this innovation has introduced new challenges, particularly in addressing the risks associated with cybercrime. One significant threat is the potential loss of an electronic certificate due to hacking. To address these concerns, both vertical and horizontal legal protection is necessary. The minister must ensure that comprehensive legal safeguards are in place, protecting against government interference as well as threats from individuals or other groups in relation to the security of electronic certificates. The research question raised in this paper is whether there is an adequate legal framework regulating the protection system of electronic certificate data stored in electronic vaults. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the political law of land administration regarding electronic certificates and to examine the legal protection of data stored in electronic vaults. This study concludes that the validity and security of electronic land certificates require comprehensive safeguards, including encryption mechanisms and the role of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), to prevent risks of digital loss or manipulation

ANALISIS PRICE DISCOVERY SAHAM ALIBABA DI NYSE DAN HKEX

    Get PDF
This research analyzes the price discovery process of Alibaba shares traded on two major exchanges: the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) with the ticker BABA and the Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) with the ticker 9988. The methods used include the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), Hasbrouck's Information Share (IS), and Impulse Response Function (IRF) to measure the relative contribution of each exchange in reflecting new information in stock prices. The results of the analysis show that the two exchanges have a strong long-term relationship, as indicated by the Johansen cointegration test. Based on the IS calculation, HKEX has a greater contribution to price discovery compared to NYSE, indicating that Alibaba's stock price reflects new information faster on HKEX. The IRF analysis shows that price shocks on one exchange have a significant impact on the other exchange in the short term, but the effect tends to diminish in the long term. These findings provide insight for investors in choosing a more efficient exchange for transactions and open up arbitrage opportunities based on the different roles of each exchange in price discovery

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study aims to elaborate on how credit union members perceive money and how these perceptions inform the decision made before applying for a loan from a credit union. Method: The study employed grounded theory as its methodology. Data were obtained from in-depth, semi-structured interviews and observations involving ten members of a credit union in Indonesia. This research's respondents are divided into two types: the first lists respondents who actively borrow (five respondents), and the second lists those who do not (five respondents). Result: The study shows two categories in which money is perceived: money as a resource and money as a source of emotions. The study further found that six key factors inform the decision to apply for a loan. Past experiences (1) contribute to the meaning of money (2) and perceptions toward loans (3). Further, pressing needs (4) not accompanied by financial strength (5) to finance them result in motives for procuring loans. With access to loans (6), motives can turn into an action of taking out a loan. Based on the findings, Credit unions should perform a thorough analysis to identify pressing needs among their members and evaluate the access to loans regarding their capacity to fulfill the members' needs. Furthermore, loans should be conveyed as a means to achieve financial goals and improve the members' quality of life
