Trade Liberalization and Manufacturing Productivity Changes in Korea during the Past Three Decades
The main objective of this study is to determine whether there have been TFP increases in the Korean manufacturing sector due to trade liberalization since the 1990s. Based on the methodology proposed by Pavcnik (2002), which focuses on the channel through which trade liberalization measures enhance overall industrial productivity by triggering the exit of low-productivity firms, this study tests the following two hypotheses: first, the TFP increase in the Korean tradable industry is not higher than that in the non-tradable industry, and second, plants with lower TFP levels did not exit from the tradable industry. Through the rejection of these two hypotheses, it is possible to infer indirectly the effect of trade liberalization on firm productivity rates in Korea since the 1990s. First, this analysis reveals that since the 1990s, the TFP of the tradable sector compared to the non-tradable sector presented a statistically meaningful increase only in the 2000s, when China joined the WTO and trade increased sharply between Korea and China. Franchise Market, Contract Conditions, and Welfare Implications: Evidence from Korea
This paper analyzes how franchise contract conditions are influenced by business structures as well as how contract conditions affect producer surplus by utilizing Korean franchise Information Disclosure Documents for the years 2014-2016. We find that franchise fees tend to increase in line with increases in the numbers of direct stores or the business period. Accordingly, it would be reasonable to check whether the franchise fee is excessive compared to the amount of reputation capital rather than to criticize the absolute level of the franchise fee. Regarding royalty contracts, the larger the discount in the raw materials purchase is, the higher the initial royalty is. Although this appears to be a royalty discount, it can be a means of inducing a raw materials purchase contract by initially setting a high royalty rate and then lowering it after the purchase contract is signed. Concerning the effect on producer surplus, the results show that an increase in franchise fees and royalties negatively affects the franchiseeβs operating profits but positively affects those of the franchisorβs, leading to conflicts over the distribution of economic value added. Based on the findings here, we propose various policy recommendations, specifically reinforcing the contents in the Information Disclosure Document, further activating fixed-rate royalties, and strengthening the qualifications of franchisors when recruiting franchisees

ν κ²μ΄λ€.The purpose of this study is to identify core competencies of teachers in the areas of career guidance and counseling and to use the results as a reference for developing data for strengthening career education and teacher training. Through literature study, in-depth interview with competent teachers, validation survey of experts, and competency modeling, including the analysis of teacher competency priorities, this study developed seven competency clusters and fifteen competencies.
The results of the study are as follows: competencies of search, collection, accumulation, and processing of vocational information were so high priorities as to be selected by all levels of schools. Other commonly emphasized competencies at all primary and secondary schools included interest in and reception of the extra- curricular knowledge and affairs of the world outside the school, consulting of parents on students' career through regular sharing of students' career information, and supporting career development through student-centered personalized learning. This study empirically proved that teachers should explore changes in the occupational world and trends in society overall to improve their counseling performance
