Masur's criterion does not hold in Thurston metric

We construct a counterexample for Masur's criterion in the setting of Teichm\"uller space with Thurston metric. For that, we find a minimal, non-uniquely ergodic lamination λ\lambda on a seven-times punctured sphere with the uniformly bounded annular projection coefficients. Then we show that the geodesic in the corresponding Teichm\"uller space that converges to λ\lambda, stays in the thick part for the whole time.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures. comments are welcome

Intelligent automation supports us against cyclones, droughts, and seismic events with recent technology advancements. Algorithmic learning has advanced fields like neuroscience, genetics, and human-computer interaction. Time-series data boosts progress. Challenges persist in adopting these approaches in traditional fields. Neural networks face comprehension and bias issues. AI's expansion across scientific areas is due to adaptable descriptors and combinatorial argumentation. This article focuses on modeling Forest loss using the VANYA Model, incorporating Prey Predator Dynamics. VANYA predicts forest cover, demonstrated on Amazon Rainforest data against other forecasters like Long Short-Term Memory, N-BEATS, RCN

Bonbons and Bolsheviks: The Stigmatization of Chocolate in Revolutionary Russia

    Get PDF
This essay examines how and why how the official Party attitude toward chocolate changed rather dramatically during the first two decades of Communist rule. In the immediate aftermath of the October 1917 Revolution, zealous and idealistic Bolsheviks, inspired in part by the ascetic model provided by Lenin himself, condemned chocolate throughout most of the 1920s as a decadent luxury food item that they associated closely with the self-indulgent consumerism and egoistic, philistine way of life enjoyed by their hated class enemy, the bourgeoisie. With the onset of Stalin’s cultural revolution in the late 1920s and early 1930s, however, chocolate suddenly became transformed into a positive symbol of the economic prosperity, material abundance, and cultural progress that the building of socialism, it was claimed, had finally achieved in Soviet Russia. My essay explores some of the reasons not just for the initial Bolshevik stigmatization of chocolate, but also for this dramatic turn around in the way chocolate was perceived subsequently by the Stalinist leadership. The focus is centered mainly on the way chocolate was represented in works of Soviet literature during both decades

The Stefano manuscript is not only a unique ethnographic document but it also contains a collection of Aboriginal words and expressions which, although small in number, give us a valuable and rare record of the language spoken along the North West coast of Australia during the second half of the nineteenth century.1 The only other comparable North West vocabulary from this period of colonial history is the 1861 Ngarluma vocabulary of 70 words, compiled by Pemberton Walcott
