Listening to limericks: a pupillometry investigation of perceivers’ expectancy

What features of a poem make it captivating, and which cognitive mechanisms are sensitive to these features? We addressed these questions experimentally by measuring pupillary responses of 40 participants who listened to a series of Limericks. The Limericks ended with either a semantic, syntactic, rhyme or metric violation. Compared to a control condition without violations, only the rhyme violation condition induced a reliable pupillary response. An anomaly-rating study on the same stimuli showed that all violations were reliably detectable relative to the control condition, but the anomaly induced by rhyme violations was perceived as most severe. Together, our data suggest that rhyme violations in Limericks may induce an emotional response beyond mere anomaly detection

The result of the research are (1) the rhymes obtained in the spell of Dayak Kanayatn barapus includes: (a) rhyme which is based on the sound or voice: whole rhyme, absolute rhyme, half rhyme , alliteration rhyme, assonance rhyme, consonant rhyme and dissonance rhyme. (b)rhyme based on its location on the lines: early rhyme, middle rhyme, last rhyme. (c) rhyme based on its similarity of voice or sound in lines: flat rhyme. (d) rhyme based on its pair in verse: continuous rhyme and free rhyme. Based on the analysis result, the most dominant rhyme based on its voice or sound is alliteration rhyme. The most dominant rhyme based on its words location in lines is early rhyme. Meanwhile the most dominant according to its location of pairs in verse is free rhyme. (2) the function contained in barapus spell of Dayak Kanayatn included: (a) social function (b) religious function. Mantra Pengobatan pada Masyarakat Dayak Jelai Dusun Batu Menang Kecamatan Jelai Hulu Kabupaten Ketapang

The purpose of this research is to describe rhyme, rythme and function Medical Mantra on Dayak Jelai society of Batu Menang Village, Jelai Hulu Sub-district in Ketapang Regency. The method in this research is descriptif with qualitative and structural approachment. Technical collected file are from direct gazing, interviewing and recording. Based on data analysisa we get the summary such as: (1) The rhyme in the medical mantra of Dayak Jelai society are built from two circumstance : (a) The rhyme based on the sound: perfect rhyme, unperfect rhyme, original rhyme, open rhyme, closed rhyme, alliterate rhyme, asonancy rhyme and desonancy rhyme. (b) The rhyme based on the words place in the entire: first rhyme, medium rhyme, end rhyme, vertical rhyme, horizontal rhyme, flat rhyme, cross rhyme, continued ware rhyme. And the dominant rhyme ase end rhyme and vertical rhyme. Then, from the eight rhyme of mantra which is dominantly and have many rhyme in it is medical mantra of stomachach. (2) The rhytme in the medical mantra of Dayak Jelai society is based on notes are: high notes rhytme, low notes rhytme, long notes rhytme, short notes rhytme, short stop notes rhytme and long stop notes rhytme. (3) The function of medical mantra of Dayak Jelai Society Batu Menang village are: (a) Social function and (b) Religius function

Analisis Struktur, Fungsi, dan Makna Mantra Selusuh Masyarakat Melayu Kecamatan Kendawangan Kabupaten Ketapang

This research was motivated by an interest on Selusuh spell of Malay Kendawangan society which used to expedite childbirth. The purpose of this research was to describe structure (rhyme and rhythm), the function and the meaning of Selusuh spell in Malay Kendawangan society. This research used descriptive method in qualitative form, and structural semiotic approach. Based on the analysis of data to Selusuh spell of Malay society Kendawangan subdistrict in Ketapang regency, it can be concluded that the rhyme used in Selusuh spell was a rhyme based on sound similarity which contained in Selusuh spell were full rhyme, absolute rhyme, half rhyme and alliteration rhyme. Rhyme according to the location of words in a line of sentence consisted of initial rhyme, middle rhyme, end rhyme, standing rhyme, continuous rhyme, cross rhyme, break rhyme and free rhyme. Overall, the pronunciation of Selusuh spell Malay Kendawangan society was flat intonation. The function of Selusuh spell included spell functions in terms of cultural side, beliefs, education, social literature itself and communication. : This research aims to know structure and function of medication spell of Sambas Malay in Semparuk subdistrict, west-Kalimantan. This research was conducted in two villages there are Sepinggan and Singaraya village.The method used is descriptive method as well as structuralism with purpose to describe the research problem in accordance to the facts. STRUKTUR DAN FUNGSI MANTRA PADA MASYARAKAT MELAYU DI DUSUN SIMPUAN KECAMATAN SEMPARUK KABUPATEN SAMBAS

AbstractThe research focused on the structure and function mantras in Malay society in the Simpuan Hamlet Semparuk Sub-District Sambas District. This research uses a descriptive method. This research is in a qualitative form. The approach in this study usese a structural approach. The source of the data was informants, namely Mr. Suharmi as the first informant and Mrs. Igus as the second informant. Data in the form of structure (rhyme and rhythm) and spell functions in the form of words, phrases and sentences. The techniques used are interview, record, translation, and not taking techniques. The result of this study are as follows. First, the rhyme contained in the Malay Sambas mantra which is obtained from the analysis of the eight mantras. The rhymes contained in the eight mantras are absolute rhyme, full rhyme, half rhyme, alliteration rhyme, assonance rhyme, dissonance rhyme, chirping rhyme, continuos rhyme, twins rhyme, hugging rhyme, twins hugging rhyme, cross rhyme, broken rhyme, horzontal rhyme, initial vertical rhyme, middle rhyme, and end rhyme. Second, the rhythm contained in the eight Malay Sambas mantras is obtained from the analysis of the eight mantras. The rhythm contained in the recitation of the Malay Sambas mantras as a whole has a flat tone, third, the functions contained in the Malay Sambas mantras which is obtained from the analysis of the eight mantras. Pantun Antarbarang dalam Upacara Perkawinan Masyarakat Melayu Pontianak

This thesis is motivated by an interest researchers know about the meaning, function, and the use of language in rhyme antarbarang in Pontianak Malay community marriage ceremony. Subproblems this study were 1) how to function in a marriage ceremony rhyme antarbarang Pontianak Malay society, 2) how the themes and rema contained in rhyme antarbarang in Pontianak Malay community marriage ceremony. The method used is descriptive method with a form of qualitative research. The approach used is functional linguistics linguistics. Based on the research of the poem antarbarang in Pontianak Malay community marriage ceremony of 50 data poem there are three functions in rhyme antarbarang namely ideational function, interpersonal function and textual function. Ideational functions present in 50 of the 50 data rhyme rhyme. Interpersonal function present in 26 of the 50 data rhyme rhyme. While the textual functions found on 50 of the 50 data rhyme rhyme. Scene 50 data contained in the poem is the theme of textual, interpersonal themes and topical theme. Rema as explanatory sentence that follows the theme of the data contained in each poem
