We briefly review the history of Mach's principle and discuss its significance in the light of modern physics.Comment: 20 pages; v2: improved version published as the second chapter of The Measurement of Gravitomagnetism: A Challenging Enterprise, edited by L. Whitehead's Principle

According to Whitehead’s rectified principle, two individuals are connected just in case there is something self-connected which overlaps both of them, and every part of which overlaps one of them. Roberto Casati and Achille Varzi have offered a counterexample to the principle, consisting of an individual which has no self-connected parts. But since atoms are self-connected, Casati and Varzi’s counterexample presupposes the possibility of gunk or, in other words, things which have no atoms as parts. So one may still wonder whether Whitehead’s rectified principle follows from the assumption of atomism. This paper presents an atomic countermodel to show the answer is no

The Violation of Cooperative Principle a Case of Humorous Verbal Cartoon in Kompas

This research is aimed at describing the types of maxim violated in humorous verbal cartoon in Kompas, to find out the type of the maxims that is dominantly violated in it and to find out the causes. The method of research is descriptive qualitative research. The data is analyzed by interpreting the conversations and analyzing them based on the types of the maxim violated. From the data, it was found that the violation of the maxim of quality is 12 (20.33%), the violation of the maxim of quantity is 25 (42.37%), the violation of manner is 15 (25.42%), and the violation of the maxim of relevance is 7 (11.86%). The frequency and the percentage shows that maxim of quantity is the dominant type of maxim which is violated

We present a scheme in which we investigate the two-slit experiment and we show that the principle of complementarity is more fundamental then the uncertainty principle.Comment: 6 page

The Principal Principle Implies the Principle of Indifference

We argue that David Lewis’s principal principle implies a version of the principle of indifference. The same is true for similar principles that need to appeal to the concept of admissibility. Such principles are thus in accord with objective Bayesianism, but in tension with subjective Bayesianism. 1 The Argument 2 Some Objections Me
