Prerequisite for superconductivity: appropriate spin-charge correlations
This work investigates the relation between superconductivity and
correlations. A simple calculation shows that the appropriate spin-charge
correlation is the key role to any superconductivity, and this calculation is
consistent with the analyses of unusual properties of superconductors. (Note:
the Tc of this model is not given clearly in this work, but we have advanced
this mechanism to a t-x model which includes various superconductivities and
magnetisms (please see arXiv:0707.3660 and following works).)Comment: 7page
Ecology: a prerequisite for malaria elimination and eradication
* Existing front-line vector control measures, such as insecticide-treated nets and residual sprays, cannot break the transmission cycle of Plasmodium falciparum in the most intensely endemic parts of Africa and the Pacific
* The goal of malaria eradication will require urgent strategic investment into understanding the ecology and evolution of the mosquito vectors that transmit malaria
* Priority areas will include understanding aspects of the mosquito life cycle beyond the blood feeding processes which directly mediate malaria transmission
* Global commitment to malaria eradication necessitates a corresponding long-term commitment to vector ecolog
Inferring Concept Prerequisite Relations from Online Educational Resources
The Internet has rich and rapidly increasing sources of high quality
educational content. Inferring prerequisite relations between educational
concepts is required for modern large-scale online educational technology
applications such as personalized recommendations and automatic curriculum
creation. We present PREREQ, a new supervised learning method for inferring
concept prerequisite relations. PREREQ is designed using latent representations
of concepts obtained from the Pairwise Latent Dirichlet Allocation model, and a
neural network based on the Siamese network architecture. PREREQ can learn
unknown concept prerequisites from course prerequisites and labeled concept
prerequisite data. It outperforms state-of-the-art approaches on benchmark
datasets and can effectively learn from very less training data. PREREQ can
also use unlabeled video playlists, a steadily growing source of training data,
to learn concept prerequisites, thus obviating the need for manual annotation
of course prerequisites.Comment: Accepted at the AAAI Conference on Innovative Applications of

An observable prerequisite for the existence of persistent currents
A classical model is presented for persistent currents in superconductors.
Their existence is argued to be warranted because their decay would violate the
second law of thermodynamics. This conclusion is achieved by analyzing
comparatively Ohm's law and the Joule effect in normal metals and
superconducting materials. Whereas Ohm's law applies in identical terms in both
cases, the Joule effect is shown to cause the temperature of a superconducting
sample to \textit{decrease}. An experiment is proposed to check the validity of
this work in superconductors of both types I and II.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
Market information acquisition: a prerequisite for successful strategic entrepreneurship
AbstractThis paper investigates on the types of information used by managers and entrepreneurs, so as to conduct market research and to evaluate market potential. The authors examine five major sets of variables to understand their impact on firms’ information market search effort. Empirical results based on a survey of Greek enterprises provide support for these factors in predicting firms’ market information acquisition. Findings on structural and administrative characteristics of the firms support the notion that companies engaged in greater market information search and evaluation of market potential tend to develop and implement complex penetration and development market strategies, in order to maximize their business performance in the examined market
TEXT MINING – PREREQUISITE FOR KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Text mining is an interdisciplinary field with the main purpose of retrieving new knowledge from large collections of text documents. This paper presents the main techniques used for knowledge extraction through text mining and their main areas of applicability and emphasizes the importance of text mining in knowledge management systems.text mining, knowledge systems, information retrieval
Self-Efficacy and Grade Point Average in Relationship to Academic Success in Baccalaureate Nursing Students
Academic success, defined as the completion of a nursing program and passing the National Council for Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), is the goal of all nursing programs. The identification of specific variables related to academic success could identify students at risk of failing early. The purpose of this research study was to explore the relationship of two variables related to academic success, self-efficacy and grade point averages (GPA), in accelerated and regular BSN students. The results of this study suggest that a statistically significant, positive relationship exists between prerequisite GP A and self-efficacy of BSN students. In addition, the results suggest that a statistically significant difference existed between the prerequisite GP A of the accelerated and the regular nursing students. The conclusion of this research suggests that the combination of self-efficacy and prerequisite grades provides one opportunity for early identification and intervention of at risk students
