BridA

BridA is a group of four Slovenian artists who formed a working collaborative while working on their respective graduate degrees. Their work spans between the technological and traditional as well as the scientific and artistic. Through their work they explore the possibilities of the information of science as expressible visual content in the art. Their methods cross continually from the digital to the analog. As a collective they work not only as artists but entrepreneurs within the context of the newly forming creative economy of Slovenia

Fall 2012 Visiting Researchers and Artists Series

The New Media Department and Intermedia MFA Program are requesting funds to help support a fall lecture series. The following visiting artists will share their expertise in the following areas: an evening lecture with a question and answer period to follow, classroom visits, direct one-on-one student meetings and/or critiques and performances or other public presentations. The following artists have been selected because of the quality and engaging nature of their work. The artists\u27 desire to interact with the students in a learning environment and to engender excitement about the arts on campus was another qualifying factor in their selection. The spring Intermedia Lecture Series has manybenefits to the University of Maine and the local community. Some academic programs that will directly benefit from the lecture series include: Anthropology, Philosophy, Science, Music, Theater, English, Film Studies, Sculpture, Art and Performing Art. The contributions of the Visiting Artist Series include, but are not limited to, exposure to distinguished and contemporary artists, educationally beneficial engagement opportunities, and interaction with professionals from a variety of ethnic, cultural and critical backgrounds

Without Borders 7 Contemporary Arts Festival

Intermedia, is the seventh iteration of the annual exhibition and festival, Without Borders Contemporary Arts Festival. The exhibition will take place in the Lord Hall Galleries from August through September of 2010. Presenting the work of UMaine Intermedia MFA graduate students as well as collaborating artists from around the country, this series highlights a wide range of work focused on exploring the spaces between culture, art, science, and technology. The festival will focus on artistic forms that utilize technology and analog materials and processes in either production or presentation of the work. It will include a main exhibition centered around a variety of digital forms, installation sculptures, photos, prints, and various conceptual forms that are produced through collaborative processes, as well as performances, live music and video screenings, all of which serve to create a daily fertile exchange of creative ideas and artistic explorations. This year we will extend the festival by inviting some of the artists to come to campus to do lectures, workshops and/or critiques in the first part of the Fall Semester

The New Media Department and the Intermedia MFA Program are requesting funds to help support our Spring lecture series. All of the visiting artists and researchers proposed in our lecture series will publicly share their expertise in the following areas: an evening public lecture with question and answer period to follow (except Christopher Biddle), classroom visits and direct one-on-one student meetings andlor critiques, and in two cases they will provide half day workshops for interested people across the university and local communities. Each of the featured artists have been selected, because of the quality and engaging nature of their work, as well as the relation of their work to exposing students and community members to a diversity of creative practices and activities. The artists\u27 desire to interact with the students, in a learning environment and to engender excitement about the arts on Campus was another qualifring factor in their selection. The Spring Intermedia Lecture Series has many benefits to the University of Maine and the local community.
