A Compact Tri-band Printed Antenna for MIMO Applications

    Get PDF
In this paper, a compact tri-band printed multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation is presented to operate within WLAN and WiMAX frequency bands. By adopting a rectangular open-ended slot combined with a rectangular strip with an inverted L-shaped open-ended slot, three operating frequency bands can be obtained. The proposed compact MIMO antenna occupies an overall size of 19×33 mm2. Good port-to-port isolation is obtained. The simulated and measured results show that the presented antenna is suitable for multiband MIMO applications

The Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) Channel Modeling, Simulation and Applications

This thesis mainly focus on the Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) channel modeling, simulation and applications. There are several ways to design a MIMO channel. Most of the examples are given in Chapter 2, where we can design channels based on the environments and also based on other conditions. One of the new MIMO channel designs based on physical and virtual channel design is discussed in Unitary-Independent- Unitary (UIU) channel modeling. For completeness, the different types of capacity are discussed in details. The capacity is very important in wireless communication. By understanding the details behind different capacity, we can improve our transmission efficiently and effectively. The level crossing rate and average duration are discussed. One of the most important topics in MIMO wireless communication is estimation. Without having the right estimation in channel prediction, the performance will not be correct. The channel estimation error on the performance of the Alamouti code was discussed. The design of the transmitter, the channel and the receiver for this system model is shown. The two different types of decoding scheme were shown - the linear combining scheme and the Maximum likelihood (ML) decoder. Once the reader understands the estimation of the MIMO channel, the estimation based on different antenna correlation is discussed. Next, the model for Mobile-to-Mobile (M2M) MIMO communication link is proposed. The old M2M Sum-of-Sinusoids simulation model and the new two ring models are discussed. As the last step, the fading channel modeling using AR model is derived and the effect of ill-conditioning of the Yule-Walker equation is also shown. A number of applications is presented to show how the performance can be evaluated using the proposed model and techniques

Design and assessment of a multiple sensor fault tolerant robust control system

This paper presents an enhanced robust control design structure to realise fault tolerance towards sensor faults suitable for multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) systems implementation. The proposed design permits fault detection and controller elements to be designed with considerations to stability and robustness towards uncertainties besides multiple faults environment on a common mathematical platform. This framework can also cater to systems requiring fast responses. A design example is illustrated with a fast, multivariable and unstable system, that is, the double inverted pendulum system. Results indicate the potential of this design framework to handle fast systems with multiple sensor faults

Energy-efficient power allocation for point-to-point MIMO systems over the rayleigh fading channel

It is well-established that transmitting at full power is the most spectral-efficient power allocation strategy for point-to-point (P2P) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems, however, can this strategy be energy efficient as well? In this letter, we address the most energy-efficient power allocation policy for symmetric P2P MIMO systems by accurately approximating in closed-form their optimal transmit power when a realistic MIMO power consumption model is considered. In most cases, being energy efficient implies a reduction in transmit and overall consumed powers at the expense of a lower spectral efficiency

    MIMO nonlinear PID predictive controller

    Get PDF
A class of nonlinear generalised predictive controllers (NGPC) is derived for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear systems with offset or steady-state response error. The MIMO composite controller consists of an optimal NGPC and a nonlinear disturbance observer. The design of the nonlinear disturbance observer to estimate the offset is particularly simple, as is the associated proof of overall nonlinear closed-loop system stability. Moreover, the transient error response of the disturbance observer can be arbitrarily specified by simple design parameters. Very satisfactory performance of the proposed MIMO nonlinear predictive controller is demonstrated for a three-link nonlinear robotic manipulator example
