Meme Maps: A Tool for Configuring Memes in Time and Space

This paper presents an elegant method for visually representing the life and times of a meme, an element of cultural transmission. The elements of a Meme Map are described, and the steps for constructing a generic Meme Map are listed. A worked example of a Meme Map (using the "organic" meme) is provided. A Meme Map is a powerful and flexible tool for capturing, displaying and sharing memetic information - illustrating the time and space propinquity of Meme Events - yet it is easy to learn and simple to apply. Meme Maps can readily be drawn on “the back on an envelope”, or they can be professionally produced using any standard drawing package on a computer

We present the formal definition of meme in the sense of the equivalence between memetics and the theory of cultural evolution. From the formal definition we find that culture can be seen analytically and persuade that memetic gives important role in the exploration of sociological theory, especially in the cultural studies. We show that we are not allowed to assume meme as smallest information unit in cultural evolution in general, but it is the smallest information we use on explaining cultural evolution. We construct a computational model and do simulation in advance presenting the selfish meme powerlaw distributed. METAPHOR MAPPING IN INDONESIAN POLITICAL INTERNET MEMES

In this global social media era, it is very easy for people to share their ideas through internet. One of them is by making internet meme. Internet meme becomes new culture of sharingopinions easily in the worldwide networking. When people find it hard to convey theirideas and meaning through lexical words, they will use metaphor to help them explain theirintention. Metaphor has set of mapping between the source domain and target domain inthe process of making. This article will reveal the common issue talked by Indonesiannetizens especially about their political matters from two Facebook accounts: Meme PolitikIndonesia and Humor Politik Indonesia. It has been found that in these two accounts,people make memes mostly about the most recent issue around them: in this case it is aboutJakarta Governor’s election and general politic issues. The use of metaphors mapping asvehicle to share ideas shows that netizens of these two Facebook accounts mostly see POLITIC AS MOVEMENT and POLITIC AS BUSINESS

Oxygen therapy in respiratory disorders

PhDOxygen therapy remains a cornerstone of medical practice and is generally regarded as being safe. However, there is a lack of clinical evidence to support the routine use of oxygen therapy, and in certain conditions, injudicious oxygen may cause harm. In this thesis, I will present two audits and three randomised controlled trials of oxygen therapy. Methods A prospective audit of the prescription and use of oxygen therapy before and after the introduction of an oxygen prescription section on a drug chart A retrospective audit of ambulance oxygen administration, in patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) Two randomised controlled trials of high flow versus titrated oxygen in 150 patients with community acquired pneumonia and 106 patients with acute severe asthma A randomised controlled trial of 24 subjects with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) comparing 100% oxygen with air Results Oxygen prescription is suboptimal in hospital inpatients. Whilst an oxygen prescription section improved prescription, this intervention did not improve clinical practice Over 70% of patients presenting with AECOPD received high flow oxygen prior to presentation to the emergency department. The risk of adverse outcomes increased progressively with increased PaO2 High concentration oxygen leads to a rise in PaCO2 compared to titrated oxygen, when administered to patients presenting with asthma or pneumonia Breathing 100% oxygen leads to a rise in PaCO2 in patients with OHS Conclusion This series of studies has shown that further measures are warranted to ensure the safe practice of oxygen therapy in the pre-hospital and hospital setting. In addition, the findings suggest that the potential for high concentration oxygen therapy to increase PaCO2 is not limited to COPD but may occur in other respiratory conditions in which abnormal gas exchange or respiratory drive are present
