Love Stories

This collection of short stories is entitled “Love Stories.” There are two shorter pieces, seven and thirteen pages respectively, two medium-length pieces, twenty-three pages, and one longer piece of thirty-six pages to bring the total to five stories at one hundred two pages. These stories all concern ‘love’ in the conventional sense of the word, focusing particularly on the love between two people. They explore ‘love’ in unusual or fantastic ways. Most of the stories are science fiction-esque, with one more realist in manner. The use of future technologies or extrapolations of current technologies and societal elements works to express the theme of love in a way that moves beyond the classic depiction of romance. These stories involve a man and his stream-of-consciousness as he stands at the altar before marriage, two people evolving at different rates and the challenges this provides to their love, a virtual relationship between a young man and a pornographic webcam model, the futile efforts of a lowly star port attendant and a rich woman, and the relationship between two people in a post-apocalyptic society where the classes have segregated

Bookeater and other love stories

The characters who inhabit Bookeater and Other Love Stories have little in common with each other. Their stories are not interconnected. However, they do share an almost overwhelming desire to connect, to unite with someone--or something--in order to stave off loneliness. These stories explore the ways in which desire inevitably inspires selfish and destructive behavior. The Concept of Love in D. H. Lawrence' Short Stories

THE CONCEPT OF LOVE IN D. H. LAWRENCE’ SHORT STORIES Abstract This research aims to investigate the concept of love in D. H. Lawrence’ short stories using sociological prespective. It was conducted by assigning three objectives, namely: to identify the profile of major characters in D. H. Lawrence’ love stories, to describe the dynamics of love in D. H. Lawrence’ love stories, and to reveal the concept of love in D. H. Lawrence’ love stories. The type of research is qualitative research. The primary data are 60 D. H. Lawrence’ short stories. The result of this study as follow: first, the profile of major characters in each period have different classification explanation, such in earliear period explain more physical quality, the middle period with moral quality and the latter period with social quality. Second, to describe the dynamics of love where the male major characters dominated the rule in love experiences. Third, to reveal the concept of love in D. H. Lawrence’ love stories, in the earliear period loved based on first sight of physical qualities, the middle period loved by the moral qualities of the pair and the latter period with social qualities as the basis of love and there are commitment to loving. ‘try-error-try-it’: Love, Loss, and the Subversion(?) of the Heteronormative Romance Story in Will Grayson, Will Grayson

“and that’s how you find it . . . you know, it” (268). Romances stories are often about finding happiness and true love, about finding it. In these novels happiness is both privileged and equated with love, and more often than not these love stories are about heterosexual happiness. Sara Ahmed, in The Promise of Happiness, describes the necessity of queer love stories when she explains “there are of course good reasons for telling stories about queer happiness, in response to and as a response to the very presumption that a queer life is necessarily and inevitably an unhappy life” (p. 94). My article explores this presumption by examining John Green and David Levithan’s Will Grayson, Will Grayson (2010), specifically the way the novel encourages empathy for the queer characters by playing with the readers’ generic and social expectations of the romance story. Will Grayson, Will Grayson follows two teenage boys named Will Grayson, whose paths cross serendipitously. The chapters of this novel present simultaneous love stories by alternating between straight Will (who ends up in stable monogamous heterosexual relationship, and therefore has a normatively happy ending) and gay Will (whose future is not so certain). This paper contrasts the hetero- and homosexual love stories and analyses how the interplay of these stories engenders empathy in the reader. I argue that in this way, Will Grayson, Will Grayson challenges heteronormative expectations of the romance story

Using R. F. Yeager\u27s analysis of the figure Arion as a starting point, this article argues that in the Confessio Amantis, John Gower shifts his impulse toward social correction from direct estates satire to a more subtle approach encoding his social critique in the love stories of the Confessio. Examples of this approach include a variety of tales from Book 5, and the Apollonius of Tyre story in Book 8. Details of the poem\u27s ending and later works like In Praise of Peace indicate that Gower still retained an interest in direct critique of social problems
