Industrial Applications of Laser Neutron Source
The industrial applications of the intense neutron source have been widely explored because of the unique features of the neutron-matter interaction. Usually, intense neutron sources are assembled with fission reactors or high energy ion accelerators. The big size and high cost of these systems are the bottle neck to promote the industrial applications of intense neutrons. In this paper, we propose the compact laser driven neutron source for the industrial application. As the first step of our project for the versatile applications of laser driven neutron source, Li-neutron and/or Li-proton interactions have been investigated for the application to the development of Li battery
Coal conversion products industrial applications
Coal-based synthetic fuels complexes under development consideration by NASA/MSFC will produce large quantities of synthetic fuels, primarily medium BTU gas, which could be sold commercially to industries located in South Central Tennessee and Northern Alabama. The complexes would be modular in construction, and subsequent modules may produce liquid fuels or fuels for electric power production. Current and projected industries in the two states which have a propensity for utilizing coal-based synthetic fuels were identified, and a data base was compiled to support MFSC activities
Aerospace lubrication technology transfer to industrial applications
Difficulties encountered in entering industrial markets with an aerospace lubrication and coating technology are discussed along with the technical, financial, and managerial solutions that evolved
Ion source design for industrial applications
The design of broad-beam industrial ion sources is described. The approach used emphasizes refractory metal cathodes and permanent-magnet multipole discharge chambers. Design procedures and sample calculations are given for the discharge chamber, ion optics, cathodes, and magnetic circuit. Hardware designs are included for the isolator, cathode supports, anode supports, pole-piece assembly, and ion-optics supports. There are other ways of designing most ion source components, but the designs presented are representative of current technology and adaptable to a wide range of configurations
Readiness of Quantum Optimization Machines for Industrial Applications
There have been multiple attempts to demonstrate that quantum annealing and,
in particular, quantum annealing on quantum annealing machines, has the
potential to outperform current classical optimization algorithms implemented
on CMOS technologies. The benchmarking of these devices has been controversial.
Initially, random spin-glass problems were used, however, these were quickly
shown to be not well suited to detect any quantum speedup. Subsequently,
benchmarking shifted to carefully crafted synthetic problems designed to
highlight the quantum nature of the hardware while (often) ensuring that
classical optimization techniques do not perform well on them. Even worse, to
date a true sign of improved scaling with the number of problem variables
remains elusive when compared to classical optimization techniques. Here, we
analyze the readiness of quantum annealing machines for real-world application
problems. These are typically not random and have an underlying structure that
is hard to capture in synthetic benchmarks, thus posing unexpected challenges
for optimization techniques, both classical and quantum alike. We present a
comprehensive computational scaling analysis of fault diagnosis in digital
circuits, considering architectures beyond D-wave quantum annealers. We find
that the instances generated from real data in multiplier circuits are harder
than other representative random spin-glass benchmarks with a comparable number
of variables. Although our results show that transverse-field quantum annealing
is outperformed by state-of-the-art classical optimization algorithms, these
benchmark instances are hard and small in the size of the input, therefore
representing the first industrial application ideally suited for testing
near-term quantum annealers and other quantum algorithmic strategies for
optimization problems.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figures. Content updated according to Phys. Rev. Applied

Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method in Industrial Applications
In the present work three different applications of DSMC method to problems of industrial interest are revised and deepen by using both other methodologies and a more updated or advanced DSMC code, compared with those already used by other researchers to solve the same problems. For each problem, a preliminary rarefaction analysis verifies that the molecular approach, therefore the use of a DSMC code, is proper. More specifically, in this work the “sophisticated” DS2V (Ver.4.5) code has been used for the simulation of the flow fields in a deposition chamber and in a micro-channel as well as for the evaluation of viscosity of mixtures. The present work is an improvement of former works about the same topics because: 1) a method is proposed for the evaluation of the film distribution on the substrate. Furthermore, as the thin film deposition process is based on expanding thermal plasma from a torch, the influences of mass flow rate and of electrical power, supplied to the gas, and of the fluid-dynamic characteristics of the plasma jet, linked to geometry of different nozzles, are analyzed. 2) Some fluid-dynamic parameters in a micro-channel, such as load loss and impulse have been evaluated. 3) Computation of the exponent of the temperature viscosity law of a mixture of gases is proposed
Industrial applications of multiaxial warp knit composites
Over the past few years, multiaxial warp knit (MWK) fabrics have made significant inroads into the industrial composites arena. This paper examines the use of MWK fabrics in industrial composite applications. Although the focus is on current applications of MWK fabrics in composites, this paper also discusses the physical properties, advantages and disadvantages of MWK fabrics. The author also offers possibilities for the future of MWK fabrics in the industrial composites arena
