Age Variation in Mating Strategies and Mate Preferences Among College Students

    Get PDF
Color poster with text, graphs, and tables.Past research has documented systematic similarities and differences in men's and women's mate preferences and mating orientation. However, one area of mating research that relationship scientists know little about is change over time in individuals' mating orientations and preferences. To address this knowledge gap, this study involved surveying broad samples of students at the University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire.University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire Office of Research and Sponsored Programs

    Rat models of autoimmune uveitis

Experimental autoimmune uveitis ( EAU) in Lewis rats is a well-established model for human uveitis. During the last years we used this model to demonstrate extraocular induction of uveitis by antigenic mimicry of environmental antigens with retinal autoantigen and investigated the migration and intraocular reactivation of autoreactive green fluorescent protein ( GFP)+ T cells. We could also elaborate several differences between EAU induced with S-antigen peptide PDSAg or R14, a peptide derived from interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein, suggesting two differently regulated diseases in the same rat strain. R14-mediated EAU in Lewis rats has been shown to relapse, thus we have a new model to test therapeutic approaches in an ongoing immune response instead of just preventing disease. Finally, we show antigenic mimicry of PDSAg and an HLA-B peptide for oral tolerance induction. After the successful first therapeutic trial this approach will now proceed with international multicenter clinical trials. Copyright (c) 2008 S. Karger AG, Basel

From Mansions to Towers: A History of Residence Halls at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

The construction of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's residence halls has generally followed that of the national trend. The school struggled to find enough funds to build residence halls in the early years. Eventually, student housing was in needed so badly that the school had no choice but to provide housing for the students. In 1947, the Dulany mansion was purchased and remodeled by the school. This building served as the University's first resident hall. Since then, eleven resident halls have been built on campus with one more being planned. Life in these residence halls have changed dramatically over time. In the 1960's, the students protested and eventually the strict rules of in loco parentis faded away. After this, students enjoyed the freedoms of new technologies, relaxed rules, and more professional housing leaders. Today, UW-Eau Claire is a thriving university. UW-Eau Claire has been recognized by many as a top school in the Midwest. Much of the success can be attributed to the residence halls and the happiness of the students. My paper will provide UW-Eau Claire and its students with a cohesive history of the residence halls on campus and will also show how student life has evolved since the University was first established

Impact of the Great Recession on Total Employment and Unemployment Rates in the U.S.

    Get PDF
Color poster with text, images, maps, and tables. The economic downturn of 2008-09 was so severe that it has become known as the Great Recession, and by most accounts the subsequent recovery has been relatively slow. The most basic method of judging the severity of a recession and the success of a recovery is to look at labor market information. In particular, the unemployment rate and the number of jobs (total employment) are often used for this purpose. This study presents data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for 2007, 2009 and 2011 using maps to describe the recession and recovery at a national level as well as compare the effects across states.University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire Office of Research and Sponsored Programs; Xcel Energy-Eau Claire; Northwestern Bank-Chippewa Falls

Safe Routes to School Increases Physical Activity and Improves Health

    Get PDF
This report indicates how Safe Routes to School is being institutionalized at select schools, and providing a mechanism to improve student and school health. It provides local case studies from Benton County, OR; Eau Claire, WI; Flagstaff, AZ; and Garfield, NJ that detail how SRTS can lead to improved public health

Génératrice à aimants permanents à flux axial à grand diamètre avec entrefer immergé

    Get PDF
