A LabVIEW-based PI controller for controlling CE 105 coupled Tank System
In this paper, use of Proportional-Integral (PI) controller to monitor and control liquid level in an interconnected CE 105 model coupled tank is investigated. To achieve a system which can instantaneously and accurately control the liquid level in a coupled tank, two different PI controllers have been tested. The LabVIEW library for the PI controller is used to measure liquid levels in the coupled tank. The PI SubVI already exists in the LabVIEW library that gives reasonable performance but to get a better system performance and monitor the liquid levels more accurately another SubVI is derived from the PI controller mathematical equations. The practical results and the system performance of the second SubVI show a faster response and more accurate instantaneous data which minimises the error in the measurements to ±1 mm. Furthermore, the robustness of the controller to change in the system’s parameters is also investigated and established
Model-based fault detection and isolation for wind turbine
In this paper, a quantitative model based method is proposed for early fault detection and diagnosis of wind turbines. The method is based on designing an observer using a model of the system. The observer innovation signal is monitored to detect faults. For application to the wind turbines, a first principles nonlinear model with pitch angle and torque controllers is developed for simulation and then a simplified state space version of the model is derived for design. The fault detection system is designed and optimized to be most sensitive to system faults and least sensitive to system disturbances and noises. A multiobjective optimization method is then employed to solve this dual problem. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method
Distributed Model Predictive Control Using a Chain of Tubes
A new distributed MPC algorithm for the regulation of dynamically coupled
subsystems is presented in this paper. The current control action is computed
via two robust controllers working in a nested fashion. The inner controller
builds a nominal reference trajectory from a decentralized perspective. The
outer controller uses this information to take into account the effects of the
coupling and generate a distributed control action. The tube-based approach to
robustness is employed. A supplementary constraint is included in the outer

Monitoring response to hepatitis B and C in EU/EEA: testing policies, availability of data on care cascade and chronic viral hepatitis-related mortality – results from two surveys (2016)
Objectives: The World Health Organization (WHO) developed a European Regional Action Plan (EAP) to fast-track action towards the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis. Robust monitoring is essential to assess national programme performance. The purpose of this study was to assess the availability of selected monitoring data sources in European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) Member States (MS). Methods: Availability of data sources at EU/EEA level was assessed using two surveys distributed to 31 EU/EEA MS in 2016. The two surveys covered (A) availability of policy documents on testing; testing practices and monitoring; monitoring of diagnosis and treatment initiation, and; (B) availability of data on mortality attributable to chronic viral hepatitis. Results: Just over two-thirds of EU/EEA MS responded to the surveys. 86% (18/21) reported national testing guidance covering HBV, and 81% (17/21) covering HCV; while 33% (7/21) and 38% (8/21) of countries, respectively, monitored the number of tests performed. 71% (15/21) of countries monitored the number of chronic HBV cases diagnosed and 33% (7/21) the number of people treated. Corresponding figures for HCV were 48% (10/21) and 57% (12/21). 27% (6/22) of countries reported availability of data on mortality attributable to chronic viral hepatitis. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that sources of information in EU/EEA Member States to monitor the progress towards the EAP milestones and targets related to viral hepatitis diagnosis, cascade of care and attributable mortality are limited. Our analysis should raise awareness among EU/EEA policy makers and stimulate higher prioritisation of efforts to improve the monitoring of national viral hepatitis programmes
Chronic Disease Self-Management Challenges among Rural Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Prakasam, Andhra Pradesh, India: A Qualitative Study.
Rural women living with HIV/AIDS (WLHA) in India experience challenges self-managing HIV/AIDS in their rural communities. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore factors influencing their care and antiretroviral treatment (ART) adherence. Themes that emerged from the qualitative focus groups among WLHA (N = 24) in rural Prakasam, Andhra Pradesh, India, included: (1) coming to know about HIV and other health conditions, (2) experiences being on ART, (3) challenges maintaining a nutritious diet, (4) factors affecting health care access and quality, and (5) seeking support for a better future. Chronic disease self-management in rural locales is challenging, given the number of barriers which rural women experience on a daily basis. These findings suggest a need for individual- and structural-level supports that will aid in assisting rural WLHA to self-manage HIV/AIDS as a chronic illness
Zika virus: New clinical syndromes and its emergence in the western hemisphere
Zika virus (ZIKV) had remained a relatively obscure flavivirus until a recent series of outbreaks accompanied by unexpectedly severe clinical complications brought this virus into the spotlight as causing an infection of global public health concern. In this review, we discuss the history and epidemiology of ZIKV infection, recent outbreaks in Oceania and the emergence of ZIKV in the Western Hemisphere, newly ascribed complications of ZIKV infection, including Guillain-Barré syndrome and microcephaly, potential interactions between ZIKV and dengue virus, and the prospects for the development of antiviral agents and vaccines

Cooperative distributed LQR control for longitudinal flight of a formation of non-identical low-speed experimental UAV's
In this paper, an established distributed LQR control methodology applied to identical linear systems is extended to control arbitrary formations of non-identical UAV's. The nonlinear model of a low-speed experimental UAV known as X-RAE1 is utilized for simulation purposes. The formation is composed of four dynamically decoupled X-RAE1 which differ in their masses and their products of inertia about the xz plane. In order to design linear controllers the nonlinear models are linearized for horizontal flight conditions at constant velocity. State-feedback, input and similarity transformations are applied to solve model-matching type problems and compensate for the mismatch in the linearized models due to mass and symmetry discrepancies among the X-RAE1 models. It is shown that the method is based on the controllability indices of the linearized models. Distributed LQR control employed in networks of identical linear systems is appropriately adjusted and applied to the formation of the nonidentical UAV's. The applicability of the approach is illustrated via numerous simulation results
