Paradoxical Results in a Lobbying Model of Protection

Okuguchi and Yamazaki (1998) generalized Long and Soubeyran\u27s lobbying model of protection. They also constructed a simple numerical example with the linear inverse demand and cost functions to illustrate a paradoxical result in which entry of a new domestic firm leads to an increase in the domestic incumbents\u27 profits. This paper shows that the paradoxical result occurs even if cost functions are quadratic. Numerical examples in this paper, together with the one in Okuguchi and Yamazaki (1998), indicate that the paradoxical result is more likely if the number of domestic firms is small and if the number of foreign firms is large. 物理学の幾つかの問題について

現在の物理学は十分に発連しており、基本的な謎は、素粒子や宇宙論に関連する問題を除いてないように宣伝されている。しかしながら、物理学は数学と異なり、公理から作られた体系というよりも、経験的に現実とうまくあった数式の運用規則の集まりという側面が強い。そのため、法則や原理、運用規則が完全に整合がとれて無矛盾であるとは眠らなくなっている。このようなことから、多くの研究者が集中的に研究する流行の問題以外にも、色々な種類の基礎的な問題がある。本論文では、そのようなものの中から幾つかの問題を示す。この中には一見初等的に見えるもの、解決済みに見えるもの、色々な意見がありながら店晒しになっているものなどが含まれている。それは以下の六つである。(1)因果率とトンネル時間(2)観測と保存則(3)重力と制動放射(4)重力と角運動量の転移(5)特殊相対性理論とポテンシャル(6)ホーキング幅射 各問題は理解しやすさと言う目的のため、具体的な思考実験の形式をとっており、十分に抽象化・一般化されているとは眠らない。抽象化や一般化の方向については一部述べた。また、各問題にはわれわれの解説や意見、あるいは暫定的な解答が述べられているが、必ずも同意を求めているわけではないし、重要でもない。むしろ、これらの問題は、読者の各自が自分自身で考えて、答えを出していただきたいと思う。なお、問題の順番は、基本的に我々が考え出した順番に並んでおり、あまり意味がない。また、多くの問題には我々より先に類似した問題を提唱し論じた研究者がいるが、それについても不十分ながら知る限りで論じている

潜在成長力と国民負担率

少子・高齢化が進行する中で将来世代の負担を軽減するために、生産性向上や社会保障制度の見直しと並んで、労働供給の増大に伴う潜在成長力の向上と就業者1人当たり負担の軽減が提起されている。本稿は開発中のJCER長期マクロモデル.III、1975-95 を用い、労働供給の増加による潜在GDPの増大がどの程度国民負担率の引き下げに寄与するかを検討する。1996年から2025年までのシミュレーション実験の結果、労働供給の増大は社会保障給付水準の低下というインセンティブに基づく場合に限り国民負担率の軽減に結びつくことが明らかとなった。なお、使用したモデルは、誘導形による潜在GDPの計測という新しい試みを行っているほか、社会保障給付水準の高齢男子の労働供給に対する影響が組み込まれている

A PRACTICAL INDEX OF REACTIVITY FOR ALTERNANT SYSTEMS

This paper proposes to use the minor of the diagonal component in the squared adjacency matrix as a practical index of reactivity for alternant systems having no nonbonding orbital. This index is a closer approximation to superdelocalizability but can be evaluated much more simply than frontier electron density. It is shown that this index has a simple relation to resonance structures. A few remarks are added concerning Dewar\u27s localization energy and the analysis by Fukui and his coworkers on approximation to superdelocalizability

Aggregate Welfare of the Anas-Arnott Housing Model

Anas and Arnott (1991) formulate an elegant housing market model. Anas and Amott (1996) derive the utilitarian social welfare function corresponding to the Anas-Amott model (1991). They make use of this function to analyze the Anas-Amott model. This paper shows some properties of this social welfare function

Nash Equilibrium in Rent-Seeking Games with Endogenous Rent

We formulate one-stage and two-stage rent seeking games with endogenously determined rent. Under reasonable assumptions, both games have a unique pure Nash equilibrium. We derive conditions for aggregate efforts to increase and for the total rent to dissipate as the number of agents increase for the two-stage rent-seeking game. BOND DELOCALIZABILITIES OF LINEAR CHAINS

This paper analyzes bond delocalizabilities of even-membered linear chains noncomputationally. Bond delocalizabilities between different-color sites are essentially Ruedenberg bond orders, calculated easily for linear chains by inverting the adjacency matrix. As for bond delocalizabilities between identical-color sites, a reduction formula is prepared to express them in terms of superdelocalizabilities of linear chains and used together with an analytic expression of the superdelocalizabilities to provide a plain analytic expression to the bond delocalizabilities. Behaviors of bond delocalizabilities in linear chains are examined by using the analytic expression, the reduction formula, and asymptotic estimates of superdelocalizabilities in long linear chains. Basic features of the bond delocalizabilities are fully clarified in quite a simple way

Weak Fano 3-folds with del Pezzo fibration of degree one

This note classifies smooth weak Fano 3-folds having del Pezzo fibration of degree 1. Any del Pezzo fibration of degree 1 over a projective line can be described as a hypersurface in the weighted projective space bundles with weight (1, 1, 2, 3) over the projective line. Hence we have only to treat the hypersurface as above with nef and big anticanonical divisor, and determine the weighted projective space and its divisor. We then find just four types in smooth weak Fano 3-folds having del Pezzo fibration of degree 1

ESTIMATION OF BOUNDS OF ORBITAL ENERGIES IN THE HUECKEL MODEL

This paper describes an attempt to improve estimation of bounds of orbital energies in the Huckel model. New expressions for handy estimation of the bounds are presented. The handy estimation uses only elementary graph-theoretical quantities as the number of sites and that of bonds. Furthermore, the expressoins are extended to enable us to estimate the bounds, in principle, as exactly as required. Numerical examples for typical π-electron systems are given to illustrate how the expressions work
