Nuevos destinos de la migración africana reciente: los senegaleses en Argentina

Con este trabajo pretendemos aportar al conocimiento de un nuevo fenómeno vinculado a la movilidad humana: las migraciones africanas subsaharianas hacia Sudamérica en general, y migraciones senegalesas hacia Argentina en particular. Nos centraremos en caracterizar la migración senegalesa hacia Argentina, las motivaciones para migrar y las formas de ingresar al país.The aim of this paper is to contribute to the knowledge of a new phenomenon linked to human mobility: sub-Saharan African migrations to South America in general and Senegalese migration to Argentina in particular. Recent African migration to South America : The case of Senegalese in Argentina

African migration to Latin America is new and is made up by mixed migration flow. The arrival of these new migrants appears to agree with the trends identified by international studies about African immigration which refer that, in general, the migratory flows have diversified and become dense, and the migrants have begun to move to non-conventional destinations with which they do not have previous linguistic, cultural or colonial bonds – like the Argentinean case -. This is partly due to the deepening of the economic instability of West Africa between 1980-1990 and the restrictive policies of the EU and USA after September 11th, 2001. Argentina is the most important country of destination for one flow of West Africans, mainly Senegalese, Ghanaians and Nigerians. Specifically, in this article we present a characterization of the Senegalese migration in Argentina with the intention to contribute to the study of this new south-south African migration flow.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

The migration of the senegalese "Modou Modou" in Argentina

Los senegaleses son el grupo migratorio más numeroso de entre los migrantes africanos subsaharianos que comenzaron a llegar a Argentina desde mediados de la década de los 90. Es una migración heterogénea, diversa en términos étnicos, religiosos y de proyectos migratorios. Este trabajo pretende ser un aporte al análisis de esa migración, centrándonos en los migrantes/circulantes llamados modou-modou: varones senegaleses de origen wolof y pertenencia religiosa mouride dedicados a actividades vinculadas con el comercio, fundamentalmente la venta ambulante.During most of the second half of the twentieth century, the arrival of Sub-Saharan Africans was practically unnoticed, being just since the 1990s and at the beginning of 2000 when we began to detect an increase in the volume of this flow. The Senegalese are the most numerous group among these Sub-Saharan migrants, who arrive and live in the country irregularly. We can point out a network, from religious origin, formed mostly by migrant/circulant men belonging to the Islamic Mouride brotherhood and from Wolof origin. Their principal working activity is trinket hawking and they are known as modou-modou. Senegaleses en Argentina: redes, trayectorias y asociaciones

El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar una caracterización de la migración senegalesa en Argentina, migración que comenzó a mediados de la década de 1990 con individuos de origen diola, y se intensificó luego del año 2000 con población wolof y de pertenencia mouride. Prestaremos especial atención a sus características locales de inserción, la conformación de redes migratorias y laborales, la organización religiosa y las asociaciones de migrantes.In this paper we present an anthropological approach to the senegalese migration in the province of Buenos Aires and the Ciudad Autónoma of Buenos Aires, in the general context of the African migration to Argentina. Senegalese migration to Argentina, which began in the mid1990s with Jola migrants and intensified in 2000 with the arrival of Wolof migrants belonging to the Murid Sufi order, shares similarities with movements to Southern Europe and the United States. The migration largely comprise of young men who are involved in trading activities and organized within religious and ethnic associations. The senegalese in Argentina: An analysis of the Mouridiyya and their religious associations

En este trabajo presentaré un análisis de la migración senegalesa en Argentina, haciendo especial énfasis en la cofradía mouride y sus asociaciones religiosas. El mouridismo es una de las tantas cofradías islámicas presentes en Senegal, aunque la mouride es la única propiamente senegalesa; se estructuró alrededor de la ciudad santa de Touba originando una diáspora ligada a dicha ciudad a partir de la emigración de sus discípulos al extranjero en vinculación a un proyecto común que construye y reafirma la identificación con la cofradía y con un Islam eminentemente senegalés desde cualquier parte del mundo. Hoy la cofradía es de vital importancia en el mantenimiento de una identidad transnacional, proveyendo a los migrantes puntos de referencia espirituales e ideológicos.In this paper I present an anthropological approach to the senegalese migration to Argentina, emphasizing particularly the migration of the islamic brotherhood known as Mouride and its religious associations.The mouridism is one of the many Islamic brotherhoods present in Senegal though the mouride is the only proper Senegalese; it was founded in the 1880s and structured around the holly city of Touba. Las nuevas migraciones africanas subsaharianas hacia Sudamérica son un fenómeno en pleno desarrollo.
