    World City Development In China: A Multifaceted Appraisal Of Chinese Cities In The Era Of Globalization

    A rapid expansion of globalization and diffusion of information has occurred since the beginning of the 21st century. The Chinese economy is a major stimulus that affects the hierarchical structure and system of the world cities network. Three objectives are identified in this research: 1) To examine the overall relationship between the underlying driving forces, locational strategies, and world city formation in the case of Shanghai; 2) To explore the national urban hierarchical structure of financial centres and world cities in China; 3) To measure subregional intercity connections of Chinese cities embedded in the world city network. Social Network Analysis (SNA) has a multifaceted approach to exploring the general status of world city development including Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), multiple regression analysis, content analysis, SPSS and factor analysis, the interlocking city network model, and UCINET. This case study of Shanghai uses network analysis of the national urban hierarchy world city network of Chinese cities. This research discusses world city development in China based on the world city hypothesis, the concept of the international division of labour, advance producer services, location theory, agglomeration economy, and, most notably, the theory of the world city network. The three findings of this study evidence a new blueprint of world city formation of Chinese cities in the era of globalization. In relation to case studies pertaining to a preeminent world city in China, that is, Shanghai, two parameters were found to affect world city formation

    The Factors of User Acceptance of News Feed Advertisement

    With the rapid development of mobile e-commerce, the advent of news feed ads has been increasing. In view of users\u27 stereotypes about advertisements, how to improve user acceptance of news feed ads is a matter of great concern to mobile commerce operators. In the existing theoretical research, more discussions are start from the perspective of technology and channels. Based on the theory of perceived value, this study deeply analyzes the characteristics of news feed ads, and takes functional value perception, convenience value perception, prompt response value perception, trust value perception and social value perception as independent variables. Due to the variables, a user acceptance model was constructed, questionnaires were distributed and the assumptions were verified by regression analysis. The results show that perceived value theory can effectively explain the users\u27 willingness to accept ads on the mobile advertising side, of which, convenience value perception, functional value perception and social value perception have a greater impact on the willingness to accept, prompt response value perception followed, and the least impact is trust value perception

    An Appraisal of Asia-Pacific Cities as Control and Command Centres Embedded in World City Network

    Since the globalization trend is proliferating at a staggering rate, world cities have emerged as the most dominant vanguard incorporated into global economy. Control and command function is one of the robust integral parts of world city formation, which is closely associated with the corporate headquarter status of some dominant multinational companies. Previous research works on this topic tend to concentrate on the Western Europe and North American arenas neglecting the Asia- Pacific region. Hence, the objective of this paper is to explore control and command functions of Asia-Pacific cities with reference to headquarters’ locations of multinational companies. The methodology will utilize the Forbes global 2000 dataset from the seminal study of GaWC research group, and apply the control and command center model and the interlocking city network model to discover the control and command index, as well as network connectivity of Asia-Pacific cities. Based upon the empirical study of this research, we could identify the hierarchical structure and spatial structure of Asia-Pacific world cities to emerge as some control and command centers embedded in world city network

    Business sustainability for competitive advantage: identifying the role of green intellectual capital, environmental management accounting and energy efficiency

    Themanufacturing organizations are threatening the earth and its wildlife because of their growing concern about environmental pollution and industrial waste. Hence, in the present study, the three potential solutions, Green Intellectual Capital, Environmental Management Accounting and Energy Efficiency, are evaluated for excelling the organizational operations towards business sustainability and attaining the Competitive Advantage. With the assistance of ‘Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling’ on the dataset of 364 respondents from the manufacturing organizations in China, the outcome reported the positive and significant impact of all of the studied potential solutions in excelling and enhancing business sustainability and competitive advantage. Based on the findings, it is proposed that manufacturing organizations need to apportion due attention to developing the green intellectual capital, improve the level of consumption of energy and need to disclose their environmentalmanagement through proper Environmental Management Accounting

    Structural phase transitions of optical patterns in atomic gases with microwave-controlled Rydberg interactions

    Spontaneous symmetry breaking and formation of self-organized structures in nonlinear systems are intriguing and important phenomena in nature. Advancing such research to new nonlinear optical regimes is of much interest for both fundamental physics and practical applications. Here we propose a scheme to realize optical pattern formation in a cold Rydberg atomic gas via electromagnetically induced transparency. We show that, by coupling two Rydberg states with a microwave field (microwave dressing), the nonlocal Kerr nonlinearity of the Rydberg gas can be enhanced significantly and may be tuned actively. Based on such nonlocal Kerr nonlinearity, we demonstrate that a plane-wave state of probe laser field can undergo a modulation instability (MI) and hence spontaneous symmetry breaking, which may result in the emergence of various self-organized optical patterns. Especially, we find that a hexagonal lattice pattern (which is the only optical pattern when the microwave dressing is absent) may develop into several types of square lattice ones when the microwave dressing is applied; moreover, as a outcome of the MI the formation of nonlocal optical solitons is also possible in the system. Different from earlier studies, the optical patterns and non-local optical solitons found here can be flexibly manipulated by adjusting the effective probe-field intensity, nonlocality degree of the Kerr nonlinearity, and the strength of the microwave field. Our work opens a route for versatile controls of self-organizations and structural phase transitions of laser light, which may have potential applications in optical information processing and transmission
