Characterization of magneto-optical media

Amorphous rare earth-transition metal (RE-TM) alloys and compositionally modulated TM/TM films were characterized in terms of their magnetic, magneto-optic, and galvanomagnetic properties. The loop tracer, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) facility were used to characterize and analyze the various properties of these magneto-optical storage media. Kerr effect, ellipticity, coercivity, and anisotropy at various temperatures, magnetoresistance, and resistivity are among the properties measured in Co/Pt films, Co/Pd films, and TbFeCo films

Intelligent Point-of-Interest Recommendation for Tourism Planning via Density-based Clustering and Genetic Algorithm

In recent years, geographic information service and relevant social media become more popular, some geographic point may interest people, e.g. scenic spot or famous store, naming as a point-of-interest (POI). However, the number of POI contributing by social media grows exponentially which causing a searching problem. How to recommend a POI to a user/tourist becomes a challenge. This study proposes an intelligent system using density-based clustering and genetic algorithm to recommend a POIs solution for tourism planning. Density-based clustering identifies candidate POIs. Skyline method decides a superior POI from candidate POIs by dominant of multiple attributes. Genetic algorithm optimizes the recommendation solution. The contribution is to get a tourism POI solution from a huge amount of candidate POIs based on user/tourist preferences. An experimental system implementation is in progress. In future, we will use open data from Google map and Foursquare to proof the proposed system mechanism effectiveness

Study on Results of Public Construction Quality Inspection in Taiwan

The quality of public construction projects signals the degree of a nation\u27s development to the rest of the world. Any nation hoping to advertise its strength and competitiveness on a global scale aims to improve the quality of its public construction, which includes establishing and maintaining an effective public construction quality management system. This article discusses the current results of public construction quality inspections in Taiwan and is expected to improve the quality of Taiwan\u27s public construction, which may help the nation advance in international prestige and compete in international markets

Effect of Influenza Vaccination on Mortality and Risk of Hospitalization in Elderly Individuals with and without Disabilities: A Nationwide, Population-Based Cohort Study

Purpose: The effects of influenza vaccines are unclear for elderly individuals with disabilities. We use a population-based cohort study to estimate the effects of influenza vaccines in elderly individuals with and without disabilities. Methods: Data were taken from the National Health Insurance Research Database and Disabled Population Profile of Taiwan. A total of 2,741,403 adults aged 65 or older were identified and 394,490 were people with a disability. These two groups were further divided into those who had or had not received an influenza vaccine. Generalized estimating equations (GEE) were used to compare the relative risks (RRs) of death and hospitalization across the four groups. Results: 30.78% elderly individuals without a disability and 34.59% elderly individuals with a disability had vaccinated for influenza. Compared to the unvaccinated elderly without a disability, the vaccinated elderly without a disability had significantly lower risks in all-cause mortality (RR = 0.64) and hospitalization for any of the influenza-related diseases (RR = 0.91). Both the unvaccinated and vaccinated elderly with a disability had significantly higher risks in all-cause mortality (RR = 1.81 and 1.18, respectively) and hospitalization for any of the influenza-related diseases (RR = 1.73 and 1.59, respectively). Conclusions: The elderly with a disability had higher risks in mortality and hospitalization than those without a disability; however, receiving influenza vaccinations could still generate more protection to the disabled elderl
