The answers are within me. An evaluation of a person centred counselling service for men at HMP Doncaster who have had experience of domestic violence 2005-2007
This report is the second year evaluation of the person centred counselling service for male victims and perpetrators of domestic violence at HMP Doncaster in 2006/7. This report follows on from the previous year's evaluation, Raging Anger Within Me, which evaluated this project in 2005/6. Initiated by the Doncaster Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (DRSACC), the second year of counselling service delivery was also funded by Lloyds TSB and the Tudor Trust.
The report provides a background to the service offered, details the key factors in the service's success and makes recommendations for the future sustainability of this innovative service. The report also contains a particularly interesting section detailing how the appropriateness of the service is perceived by experienced prison staff
The evolutionary sequence of post-starburst galaxies
© 2017 The Authors. There are multiple ways in which to select post-starburst galaxies in the literature. In this work, we present a study into how two well-used selection techniques have consequences on observable post-starburst galaxy parameters, such as colour, morphology and environment, and how this affects interpretations of their role in the galaxy duty cycle. We identify a master sample of Hδ strong (EWHδ> 3Å) post-starburst galaxies from the value-added catalogue in the seventh data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS DR7) over a redshift range 0.01 -2.5Å) but one having an additional cut onEWHα (> -3Å).We examine the differences in observables and AGN fractions to see what effect the Hα cut has on the properties of post-starburst galaxies and what these differing samples can tell us about the duty cycle of post-starburst galaxies. We find that Hδ strong galaxies peak in the 'blue cloud', E+As in the 'green valley' and pure E+As in the 'red sequence'.We also find that pure E+As have a more early-type morphology and a higher fraction in denser environments compared with the Hδ strong and E+A galaxies. These results suggest that there is an evolutionary sequence in the post-starburst phase from blue discy galaxies with residual star formation to passive red early-types
StochKit-FF: Efficient Systems Biology on Multicore Architectures
The stochastic modelling of biological systems is an informative, and in some
cases, very adequate technique, which may however result in being more
expensive than other modelling approaches, such as differential equations. We
present StochKit-FF, a parallel version of StochKit, a reference toolkit for
stochastic simulations. StochKit-FF is based on the FastFlow programming
toolkit for multicores and exploits the novel concept of selective memory. We
experiment StochKit-FF on a model of HIV infection dynamics, with the aim of
extracting information from efficiently run experiments, here in terms of

Brownian Motion Model of Quantization Ambiguity and Universality in Chaotic Systems
We examine spectral equilibration of quantum chaotic spectra to universal
statistics, in the context of the Brownian motion model. Two competing time
scales, proportional and inversely proportional to the classical relaxation
time, jointly govern the equilibration process. Multiplicity of quantum systems
having the same semiclassical limit is not sufficient to obtain equilibration
of any spectral modes in two-dimensional systems, while in three-dimensional
systems equilibration for some spectral modes is possible if the classical
relaxation rate is slow. Connections are made with upper bounds on
semiclassical accuracy and with fidelity decay in the presence of a weak

Neutral winds derived from IRI parameters and from the HWM87 wind model for the sundial campaign of September, 1986
Meridional neutral winds derived from the height of the maximum ionization of the F2 layer are compared with values from results of the HWM87 empirical neutral wind model. The time period considered is the SUNDIAL-2 campaign, 21 Sept. through 5 Oct. 1986. Winds were derived from measurements by a global network of ionosondes, as well as from similar quantities generated by the International Reference Ionosphere. Global wind patterns from the three sources are similar. Differences tend to be the result of local or transient phenomena that are either too rapid to be described by the order of harmonics of the empirical models, or are the result of temporal changes not reproduced by models based on average conditions
Collective versus single-particle effects in the optical spectra of finite electronic quantum systems
We study optical spectra of finite electronic quantum systems at frequencies
smaller than the plasma frequency using a quasi-classical approach. This
approach includes collective effects and enables us to analyze how the nature
of the (single-particle) electron dynamics influences the optical spectra in
finite electronic quantum systems. We derive an analytical expression for the
low-frequency absorption coefficient of electro-magnetic radiation in a finite
quantum system with ballistic electron dynamics and specular reflection at the
boundaries: a two-dimensional electron gas confined to a strip of width a (the
approach can be applied to systems of any shape and electron dynamics --
diffusive or ballistic, regular or irregular motion). By comparing with results
of numerical computations using the random-phase approximation we show that our
analytical approach provides a qualitative and quantitative understanding of

Oxygen Moment Formation and Canting in Li2CuO2
The possibilities of oxygen moment formation and canting in the quasi-1D
cuprate Li2CuO2 are investigated using single crystal neutron diffraction at 2
K. The observed magnetic intensities could not be explained without the
inclusion of a large ordered oxygen moment of 0.11(1) Bohr magnetons.
Least-squares refinement of the magnetic structure of Li2CuO2 in combination
with a spin-density Patterson analysis shows that the magnetization densities
of the Cu and O atoms are highly aspherical, forming quasi-1D ribbons of
localised Cu and O moments. Magnetic structure refinements and low-field
magnetization measurements both suggest that the magnetic structure of Li2CuO2
at 2 K may be canted. A possible model for the canted configuration is

Particle size distribution of forages and mixed rations, and their relationship with ration variability and performance of UK dairy herds
The particle size of the ration has been proposed as a key factor, along with its fibre and non-forage carbohydrate concentration, to ensure healthy rumen function and optimal performance of dairy cows. The current particle size distribution recommendations for forages and rations are primarily based on lucerne-haylage and maize silage (MS) and may not be suitable for the wetter grass silage (GS) based rations typically fed in Northern Europe. In order to characterize the particle size distribution of forages and rations in the UK, fifty commercial dairy herds feeding a range of GS and MS based rations were sampled during the winter of 2015/2016. The particle size distribution of the fresh forages and mixed rations (MR; total and partial mixed rations) were analysed using a modified Penn State Particle Separator with six screens of hole size 60, 44, 26.9, 19, 8, and 4 mm. The fresh MR was collected at 5-equally-spaced locations along the length of the feed-face for each herd within 5-min of feeding to determine the consistency of ration mixing, and again from the same locations 4h post-feeding. Grass silage was the main forage fed on 50 herds, with 80.3% of the dry matter (DM) being retained above the 19 mm sieve, which is considerably higher than the North-American recommendations for lucerne-haylage. The particle size distribution of MS followed the general recommendations for North American forages, however, the 8-19 mm fraction was higher and the 60 mm fraction of the MR had the lowest (0.1% DM) DM retention, and the 8-19 mm fraction the highest (34.9% DM). The MR had a higher proportion of particles retained on the 26.9 mm sieve when GS was the sole forage. Fifty eight % of herds were considered to have either moderately or poorly mixed rations, whilst 66% had evidence of diet selection (either preferential consumption or selective refusals). Particle size of the MR accounted for 33% of the variance in the milk fat content and 12% of milk yield. In conclusion, the particle size distribution of the GS and MR fed on UK dairy herds is different from the current recommendations, suggesting that the particle size of UK dairy rations is too long or new guidelines using additional sieves with larger pore sizes are required.
