Numerical Jordan-Wigner approach for two dimensional spin systems

    Get PDF
We present a numerical self consistent variational approach based on the Jordan-Wigner transformation for two dimensional spin systems. We apply it to the study of the well known quantum (S=1/2) antiferromagnetic XXZ system as a function of the easy-axis anisotropy \Delta on a periodic square lattice. For the SU(2) case the method converges to a N\'eel ordered ground state irrespectively of the input density profile used and in accordance with other studies. This shows the potential utility of the proposed method to investigate more complicated situations like frustrated or disordered systems.Comment: Revtex, 8 pages, 4 figure

Study on Ultrasonic Degradation of Pentachlorophenol Solution

    Get PDF
Pentachlorophenol (PCP) ion was degraded by ultrasound at 25 C. Four aspects that could affect the degradation of PCP were investigated, i.e. initial pH of solution, initial concentration of pentachlorophenol ion, different sound intensity with catalyst and different frequencies of ultrasound. Results showed that PCP ion could be ultrasonic degraded totally after 3 hour treatment if CCl4, which can provide free radical, was added in solution. The mechanism of ultrasonic degradation was considered as free radical oxidation by adding n-butyl alcohol as free radical scavenger

Two-magnon Raman scattering in insulating cuprates: Modifications of the effective Raman operator

Calculations of Raman scattering intensities in spin 1/2 square-lattice Heisenberg model, using the Fleury-Loudon-Elliott theory, have so far been unable to describe the broad line shape and asymmetry of the two magnon peak found experimentally in the cuprate materials. Even more notably, the polarization selection rules are violated with respect to the Fleury-Loudon-Elliott theory. There is comparable scattering in B1gB_{1g} and A1gA_{1g} geometries, whereas the theory would predict scattering in only B1gB_{1g} geometry. We review various suggestions for this discrepency and suggest that at least part of the problem can be addressed by modifying the effective Raman Hamiltonian, allowing for two-magnon states with arbitrary total momentum. Such an approach based on the Sawatzsky-Lorenzana theory of optical absorption assumes an important role of phonons as momentum sinks. It leaves the low energy physics of the Heisenberg model unchanged but substantially alters the Raman line-shape and selection rules, bringing the results closer to experiments.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, revtex. Calculation of effective mode field area of photonic crystal fiber with digital image processing algorithm

    Get PDF
Photonic crystal fiber as a new type of optical fiber has been extensively applied because of its unique properties. The effective mode area of optical fiber is an important parameter, which has a great influence on the performance of optical fiber. In this study, digital image processing algorithm was used for preprocessing to improve the accuracy of calculation of mode field area. Then the effective mode field area of optical fiber was calculated using Matlab based Gauss fitting method. Take single-mode fiber G.652 as an example, the effective mode field area was calculated using the traditional algorithm and digital image processing algorithm respectively. It was found that the results obtained using digital image processing algorithm were within the allowed error range, suggesting the effectiveness of the algorithm. Then the calculation of the effective mode area of the triangular lattice photonic crystal fiber further verified the reliability of the algorithm. This study was supported by Natural Science Foundation of Hebei Province (A2015209040)

A Co-axial Multi-tube Heat Exchanger Applicable for a Geothermal ORC Power Plant

AbstractThe study proposes a Co-axial multi-tube heat exchanger (CMTHE) applicable to geothermal heat extraction. The heat exchanger is integrated with a 50kW geothermal ORC power plant having a working fluid of R-245fa. Two field tests were performed to examine the system response of the ORC system subject to change of CMTHE. In case 1 where the flow rate in the shell-side of CMTHE is maintained, the pressure variation in the shell-side of CMTHE casts minor variations on heat extraction, ORC power generation, and ORC efficiency during the transient. Moreover, the effect of pressure has barely any influence of the final states of heat extraction, ORC power generation, and ORC efficiency. In case 2 where the pressure is preserved in the CMTHE, it is found that a decrease of flow rate in the CMTHE results in degradation of heat extraction, ORC power generation and ORC system efficiency. On the contrary, increasing the flow rate in the CMTHE leads to a rise of heat extraction, ORC power generation and ORC system efficiency. Unlike that in case 1, the effect of flow rate has a detectable effect on the final states of heat extraction, ORC power generation, and ORC efficiency

Jordan-Wigner Approach to Dynamic Correlations in 2D Spin-1/2 Models

We discuss the dynamic properties of the square-lattice spin-1/2 XY model obtained using the two-dimensional Jordan-Wigner fermionization approach. We argue the relevancy of the fermionic picture for interpreting the neutron scattering measurements in the two-dimensional frustrated quantum magnet Cs_2CuCl_4.Comment: Presented at 12-th Czech and Slovak Conference on Magnetism, Ko\v{s}ice, 12-15 July 200

Spin-Peierls transition in an anisotropic two-dimensional XY model

The two-dimensional Jordan-Wigner transformation is used to investigate the zero temperature spin-Peierls transition for an anisotropic two-dimensional XY model in adiabatic limit. The phase diagram between the dimerized (D) state and uniform (U) state is shown in the parameter space of dimensionless interchain coupling hh (=J/J)(=J_{\perp}/J) and spin-lattice coupling η\eta. It is found that the spin-lattice coupling η\eta must exceed some critical value ηc\eta_c in order to reach the D phase for any finite hh. The dependence of ηc\eta_c on hh is given by 1/lnh-1/\ln h for h0h\to 0 and the transition between U and D phase is of first-order for at least h>103h>10^{-3}.Comment: 2 eps figures, considerable revisions were mad
