    A Knowledge Based System for Supporting Sustainable Industrial Management in a Clothes Manufacturing Company Based on a Data Fusion Model

    In this paper we propose a knowledge based system (KBS), based on smart objects and a data fusion model to support industrial management decision making applied to a clothes manufacturing enterprise. The management processes cover factory-production levels to higher decision-making levels. Therefore, the proposed KBS contributes to solving different kind of decision problems, including factory supervision, production planning and control, productivity management, real-time monitoring, and data acquisition and processing. The web access via different middleware devices and tools at different process levels, along with the use of integrated algorithms, decision methods, and smart objects, promote an optimized use of knowledge and resources.     Sustainable practices for electrical energy network management: A literature review and proposal

    Many different approaches have been proposed for improving energy network management. Although these diverse contributions, most approaches for clearly identifying and accurately solving the real problems remain rather inefficient. This is greatly due to the absence of use of completely integrated and sustainable models with Organizations playing fundamental rolls through the use of effective and efficient decision support tools. One such typical problem is related to the accurate identification and the precise calculation of electrical energy losses, which still remains unsolved as well as the clear specification of the critical points and segments in the networks were problems do occur. Consequently, there is still a lack of effective prioritization of actions and interventions in order to reduce those problems.     An integrated framework for supporting fuzzy decision-making in networked manufacturing environments

    In this paper we propose an integrated framework, based on smart objects to support fuzzy decision-making processes applied to manufacturing environments. The processes involved range from factory-production level up to higher decision-making levels, either in the context of traditional single enterprises, up to the one of supply chains and distributed and ubiquitous manufacturing environments. Therefore, the proposed framework promotes contributions for solving different kind of problems, including, among others: networked supply chain management; production planning and control; factory supervision and productivity management; real-time monitoring; data acquisition and processing. The web access via different middleware devices and tools at different process levels, along with the use of integrated algorithms and smart objects, which is possible and will promote an optimized use of knowledge and resources for supporting better decision-making.     A multi-perspective integrated framework of critical success factors for supporting on-line shopping

    E-commerce promotes economic growth by enabling online shops to compete within a global market scenario. There are critical success factors that permit to distinguish a good business on the Internet and this knowledge may allow reaching an important competitive advantage for business sustainability. As many disciplines are involved, when determining critical success factors, e-commerce requires an effective coordination and integration in a collaborative way. In e-commerce, as well as in any other ecosystem, the breaking down of some integrating elements may provoke a collapse on the whole system. The various stakeholders involved in a given business should, therefore, be involved and work together to achieve a high quality product that fully satisfies the end customer's needs and wishes.     Influência da Titulação Docente no Desempenho de Cursos de Administração

    O estudo tem o objetivo de avaliar a influência da oferta da mão de obra técnico-científica (professores com mestrado e doutorado) no desempenho dos cursos de bacharelado em Administração avaliados pelo SINAES. O estudo envolveu os 1.704 cursos de bacharelado em Administração avaliados no ano de 2012. Por meio de um simulador desenvolvido pelos autores para o cômputo do CPC (conceito preliminar) do curso, que considerou os mesmos critérios utilizados pelo INEP, foi realizada uma simulação, que atribuiu para os cursos com baixa proporção de professores com titulação de mestrado e doutorado um mínimo de 30% para mestrado e 11% para doutorado, retirando, dessa maneira, a suposta barreira gerada pela ausência de professores titulados em alguns estados brasileiros. O parâmetro utilizado se baseou no mínimo exigido pelos indicadores de qualidade do instrumento de avaliação in loco do SINAES. Conclui-se que a ausência de mão de obra técnico-científica nos estados do Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Sul e Santa Catarina influencia de maneira significativa o baixo desempenho dos cursos avaliados pelo SINAES, o que não se verificou com tanta intensidade nos demais estados

    Processing zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) with low UV-C radiation

    Recent developments regarding the antimicrobial properties of certain types of light sources have promoted a growing interest in these applications, especially with concern to their potentialities for food processing. Ultraviolet radiation in the range of 200-280 nm is lethal to most microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and yeasts. Fresh and artificially contaminated zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.), whole and cut into triangular prisms, was exposed to UV-C lamps (Philips TUV-TL mini 8W) for different periods of time with the objective of quantifying the germicidal effect of this treatment. Triangular prism cut samples of zucchini were processed for 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 min with different energy discharges of UV-C radiation, respectively 2.1 and 8.4 watts, whereas whole zucchini were strategically exposed for maximum time/radiation conditions (15 min - 8.4W) due to larger surface area treatments. In freshly cut samples, total counts of mesophilic bacteria were assayed, although in the case of whole vegetables, these were initially inoculated with commercial strains of Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, and consequently assayed for presence of this specific microorganism. In both cases, UV-C exposure significantly reduced microbial activity, however, in relation to the freshly cut samples, after initial reduction of mesophilic bacteria, observations of photoreactivation between 7.5 and 12.5 min were registered, with significant counts at 10 min. Decrease in bacterial growth was once again evidenced between 10 and 12.5 min but not confirmed at 15 min of exposure. As for whole contaminated vegetables, approximately 2 logarithmic reductions of the target microorganism (Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212) were achieved

    Objetivo: Identificar o perfil sociodemográfico e condições de saúde dos idosos que sofreram quedas. Método: Estudo descritivo e transversal, com amostra de 220 idosos que caíram no último ano. As variáveis são características sociodemográficas, condições de saúde, avaliação do medo de cair e capacidade funcional. Foi realizada análise descritiva dos dados. Resultados: A maioria dos idosos que caíram possui idade entre 70-79 anos, é do sexo feminino, viúvo, com baixa escolaridade, aposentado com renda de até um salário mínimo, autoavalia sua saúde como regular/ruim, autorreferiu problemas cardiovasculares, osteomusculares, problemas de visão, e utiliza medicamentos regularmente. Foram também, classificados como independentes funcionalmente e com medo de cair. Conclusão: O perfil sociodemográficos e as condições de saúde encontradas nos idosos deste estudo são importantes para nortear a ação dos profissionais de saúde na prevenção das quedas
