    Tensile and fatigue behavior of tungsten/copper composites

    Work on W/Cu unidirectional composites was initiated to study the behavior of this ductile-ductile composite system under thermomechanical fatigue and to examine the applicability of fatigue-life prediction methods for thermomechanical fatigue of this metal matrix composite. The first step was to characterize the tensile behavior of four ply, 10 vol. percent W/Cu plates at room and elevated temperatures. Fatigue tests were conducted in load control on 0 degree specimens at 260 C. The maximum cyclic stress was varied but the minimum cyclic stress was kept constant. All tests were performed in vacuum. The strain at failure increased with increasing maximum cyclic stress

    A model for predicting high-temperature fatigue failure of a W/Cu composite

    The material studied, a tungsten-fiber-reinforced, copper-matrix composite, is a candidate material for rocket nozzle liner applications. It was shown that at high temperatures, fatigue cracks initiate and propagate inside the copper matrix through a process of initiation, growth, and coalescence of grain boundary cavities. The ductile tungsten fibers neck and rupture locally after the surrounding matrix fails, and complete failure of the composite then ensues. A simple fatigue life prediction model is presented for the tungsten/copper composite system

    Sedan Ă„r 2006 har den syntetiskt framstĂ€llda drogen spice existerat i Sverige, men först Ă„r 2008 blev drogen populĂ€r och tidningar började rikta uppmĂ€rksamhet mot den. Genom att drogen kan byta skepnad i uppbyggnaden kan den förbli laglig, dĂ€rför kan egentligen namnet “spice” inte betraktas som ett enhetligt begrepp. VĂ„rt syfte med denna studie blev att granska hur drogen spice beskrivs i tidningar och forskning. Även hur drogen betraktas gĂ€llande psykosociala och medicinska avseenden. Detta i förhĂ„llande till socialkonstruktivistiskt perspektiv. Den metod som vi valde att anvĂ€nda oss av i studien var kvantitativ innehĂ„llsanalys. Genom analys av 80 stycken svenska tidningsartiklar hĂ€mtade ur databasen mediearkivet, samt vetenskapliga artiklar och litteratur har vi besvarat vĂ„ra frĂ„gestĂ€llningar. De resultat vi fick frĂ„n analyser visade pĂ„ att tidningar kan vara av betydande roll för ungdomars attityder. Tidningar kan utföra bland annat skrĂ€mselpropaganda för att upplysa och förhindra brukandet av spice, dessvĂ€rre visar resultatet en motsatt effekt. Forskning visar att bruk av spice kan pĂ„verka relationer och arbete negativt. Dessutom Ă€r nĂ„gra bieffekter av spice bröstsmĂ€rtor, vanförestĂ€llningar, sjĂ€lvmordstankar och hjĂ€rtstopp

    PM2.5 Size Distribution and Characterization by Carbon Isotope in Tuscany (Italy)

    This study is focused on the numerical distribution and isotopic description of PM2.5 developed within the PATOS II (Particolato Atmosferico TOScana) regional project about the characterization and source apportionment of atmospheric aerosol (PM2.5) in Tuscany. PM isotopic analysis can play an important role in the individuation of primary and secondary sources and also in the determination of the natural/biogenic or anthropogenic/combustion contribution to the measured concentration. In addition, the PM2.5 particle number concentrations and the relative contribution of ultrafine particles are interpreted to identify the emission sources, the main atmospheric processes and the factors related with the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants. The analytical results in term of ÎŽ13C parameter show a greater variability in the urban and suburban background sites than in the urban traffic site, where the ÎŽ13C parameter does not vary significantly: this could be strictly correlated with traffic emissions and independently from the total particles number. On the contrary, urban and suburban background sites are affected by the meteorology and atmospheric processes. For this reason we can observe a wider variability in the ÎŽ13C values due to the contribution of different emissions sources. Despite all, in urban background we can observe lower ÎŽ13C values related with high number of total particles; this effect could be related with a traffic emission transport, because the ÎŽ13C parameter is similar to the ÎŽ13C value of urban traffic site

    Cyber-Physical Energy Systems Approach for Engineering Power System State Estimation in Smart Grids

    This investigation proposes a CPES architecture and model for engineering energy management application for smart grids. In particular, the investigation considers the implementation of the power systems state estimator (PSSE). The CPES architecture has three layers: physical, monitoring and applications. The physical layer consists of the grid and the various components. Since, the grid is usually engineered with various devices from multiple vendors that have different protocols and standards; data aggregation becomes a problem. The second layer of the CPES architecture overcomes this problem by proposing a middleware that aggregates data from the physical layer. The topmost layer is the applications layer, where the energy management system applications are implemented. These applications require the model, topology and information from the grid. This requires combining the physical aspects of the grid with the cyber ones. This investigation uses the common information model to model the grid and information exchanges. Then the model is combined with measurement and optimization models of the application to realize the PSSE. The proposed approach is illustrated on a Norwegian distribution grid in Steinkjer.
