An Analysis of Novice Teachers’ Perceptions Regarding their Teacher Preparation Program, Professional Support, and the Purpose of School
The purpose of this study was to identify existing relationships between the perceptions of novice teachers regarding their teacher preparation programs, the support given to teachers from their schools, and the purpose of school. The study took place in Northeast Tennessee. Seventeen teachers from three different school systems participated in individual qualitative interviews, which lasted about one hour each.
The finding corroborated the theory analyzed for this study and revealed areas for improvement in all levels of the education system. Teachers suggested meaningful changes to teacher preparation programs, including changes to general prerequisites and reorganizing education programs around meaningful field experience connected with adequate theory. Teachers suggested school districts to refine some programs they already have in place and improve their support. When prompted about the purpose of school, most teachers found a lack of connection between the expectations of school from state level and the purpose of school. The suggestions given by teachers matched the suggestions given by research regarding what needs to change to achieve the purpose of school

Using Movie Clips to Help Teach Accounting Principles
Movie clips are a useful way to illustrate accounting principles in managerial or cost accounting along with auditing classes. They promote a fun learning environment and student engagement when faculty discusses how the clip illustrates a specific accounting concept. At the discretion of the Professor, movie clips illustrate the concept before or after a presentation to the class. Many found the use of video clips helped students retain the information. Movie clips illustrate managerial or cost accounting concepts such as ethics, the balanced scorecard, budgeting, process re-engineering, selling or processing further, quantitative and qualitative analysis, internal controls, value, and non-value-added activities, continuous improvement and sustainability. Movie clips illustrate auditing concepts such as ethics, learning business operations, internal controls and collusion. Also, video clips address student motivation as part of promoting a fun learning environment in the accounting classroom
Kahoot! Gamification in an Accounting Class
Gamification presents an effective way to teach students in a college classroom as they enjoy the competition. Kahoot offers a fun and engaging environment where students can play a game to learn or review course material that is free for students and faculty. Student can play a Kahoot on a laptop, phone, or tablet. Kahoot offers multiple-choice, true or false, or short answer questions along with a puzzle for students to complete in the classroom. Tips for using Kahoot effectively include keeping it fun, using it to review test or material from the last class meeting, and using the results to find areas where more instruction may be necessary
Teaching Corporate Social Responsibility In An MBA Program
This paper discusses the topic of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and proposes that CSR should be taught in an MBA program and, more specifically, in a Managerial Accounting course of an MBA program. CSR aligns strongly with other managerial accounting topics typically taught in an MBA Program such as the balanced scorecard and triple-bottom line reporting. In putting forward this suggestion, this paper proposes a definition of CSR, reviews recent literature relating to CSR, and provides several strategies for teaching and assessing students’ understanding and appreciation of CSR. In the results section of the paper, a content analysis of student essays provides an insight into how students view CSR. The paper concludes with an overview of what is attainable by teaching CSR in a Managerial Accounting MBA course
Using a Plant Tour to Help Teach Job Order Costing
A plant tour offers accounting students the ability to see what they are studying in managerial or cost accounting in a real-world business setting. A tour of the Nissan plant in Smyrna, Tennessee is discussed in this paper. The students enjoy the field trip and expressed positive feelings about the experience of learning accounting material outside the classroom. While in the plant, students see many elements of managerial or cost accounting after discussing them in class, including job order costing and the aspects of the product cost. A virtual tour can take the place of a physical plant tour
An L-lactate amperometric enzyme electrode based on L-lactate oxidase immobilized in a laponite gel on a glassy carbon electrode. Application to dairy products and red wine
A biosensor based on the immobilization of Lactate oxidase in laponite - organosilasesquioxane films on glassy carbon electrode for the quantification of l-lactate in wine and dairy products is presented. The bioelectrode showed a very high sensitivity (0.33 ± 0.01) A cm-2 M-1 and a short time response (10 s) for less than 1 U of enzyme. No significant interferences, including ascorbic acid, were detected. For red wine, matrix effects assigned to polyphenols and anthocyanins were observed, which ware easily overcome by sample dilution. Our l-lactate determinations were in good agreement with those of two standard methods.Fil: Paz Zanini, Veronica Irene. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas.
