Morphometric study of sacrum in sex determination in Telengana region people
Assessment of sex of the bone comes under the Canopy of Forensic Anthropology, which has it’s main roots in anatomy. Hence sound knowledge of anatomy particularly morphometric data is essential for identification of sex, race and region. Bones of pelvic girdle play key role for determination of sex. In addition to hip bones, sacrum also has it’s own importance in determination of sex. Hence in this study we have taken various parameters (maximum length of sacrum, maximum breadth of sacrum, Curved length of sacrum, transverse diameter of S1) and different indices (sacral index, curvature index, corpobasal index). From the above parameters and indices we have extracted demarcating points for each, which have statistical significant role in determining the male and female sex, which were discussed in detail in this publication
Studies on Friction Stir Welding of Dissimilar Materials
Recently many reports on Friction Stir Welding (FSW) of various dissimilar systems such as Aluminium to Copper, Aluminium to Brass and Aluminium to Aluminium been reported.FSW of Aluminium, Copper and Brass has captured important attention from manufacturing industries, such as Shipbuilding, Automotive, Railway and Aircraft production. In FSW process, a so-called welding-head pin rotating at speeds usually in excess of a few hundred rpm, travels down the length of contacting metal plates, creating a highly plastically deformed zone through the associated force and frictional heating. Brass materials are widely used as engineering materials in industry because of their high electrical and thermal conductivity, high strength, and high corrosion resistance. Copper and its alloys are widely used in industrial applications due to their excellent electrical & thermal conductivities, good strength, corrosion & fatigue resistance. Knowledge attitude and practice on prevention of hepatitis B infection among medical students of a tertiary care centre in Tamil Nadu, India
Background: Hepatitis B infection is a serious global public health problem. About two billion people are infected with hepatitis B Virus (HBV) all over the world. The prevalence of HBV infection in India is 4%(2%-8%) with more prevalence among health care workers. Medical students represent a group that is at high-risk for acquiring and spreading hepatitis B infection. Despite increasing prevalence of HBV infection, there is paucity of knowledge, attitude and practice on HBV among medical students. Objective of the study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices on prevention of hepatitis B infection among medical students of Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences, Kulasekharam.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among 205 MBBS students using a pretested self-administered questionnaire for assessing the knowledge, attitude, and practice on prevention of HBV infection after obtaining informed consent from the participants.Results: Among 205 MBBS students, correct response towards Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices were given by 77.07%, 77.56%, and 76.59% respectively, 79.5% of the students were fully vaccinated; 20.5% were partially vaccinated against Hepatitis B Virus infection.Conclusions: The medical students are at a very high risk of contracting HBV infection during their training period in view of low HBV vaccine uptake rate and high chance of accidental exposure to blood infected with HBV. Creating awareness among medical students on various aspects of Hepatitis B infection through health education programs before their exposure in medical colleges and subjecting them to active immunization against HBV are mandatory to control the spread of Hepatitis B viral infection

Analysis of the individual risk of altitude decompression sickness under repeated exposures
In a case-control study, researchers examined the risk of decompression sickness (DCS) in individual subjects with higher number of exposures. Of the 126 subjects, 42 showed one or more episodes of DCS. Examination of the exposure-DCS relationship by odds ratio showed a linear relationship. Stratification analysis showed that sex, tissue ratio, and the presence of Doppler microbubbles were cofounders of this risk. A higher number of exposures increased the risk of DCS in this analysis
Survival of tuberculosis patients treated under DOTS in a rural tuberculosis unit (TU), south India.
Objective: To estimate survival probabilities and identify risk factors for death of tuberculosis (TB) patients during
treatment period.
Methods: TB patients registered during May 1999 to December 2004 from a rural TB unit (TU) with a population of
580 000 in Tiruvallur district, South India, formed study population. Life table and Cox’s regression methods were used.
Results: Of the 3818 TB patients who were initiated on treatment, 96, 94 and 97% of category – I, II and III
respectively, were surviving after completion of treatment. Higher death rates were independently associated with
patient’s age (45 years), previous history of treatment, alcoholism and initial body weight (<35 kgs).
Conclusion: The survival probability was found to be similar in all patients irrespective of categorization. Necessary
actions need to be initiated in the programme to improve body weight and abstain from alcoholism
Weight gain in patients with tuberculosis treated under directly observed treatment short-course (DOTS)
Set up: One Tuberculosis Unit (TU) in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, India where Tuberculosis (TB) patients treated
under Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) programme.
Objective: To identify the effects of weight gain among TB patients at the end of treatment on different factors such
as socio-economic and demographic characteristics, smoking and drinking habits, treatment under supervision, the type
of DOTS centres and problems in taking drugs.
Methods: TB patients registered between May 1999 and December 2004 formed the study population. Multiple
regression method was used for the analysis.
Results: Among 1557 smear-positive TB patients registered under DOTS programme, the changes in weight ranged
from a loss of 4 kgs to a gain of 20 kgs at the end of TB treatment; the average change in weight was 3.22 kgs. The gain
in weight at the end of treatment was associated with age (<45 years), DOT at government centres, no problems in taking
drugs as reported by patients and cure rate.
Conclusion: The findings showed that there is an association between gain in weight with DOT at government centres
and cure of patients
Ab initio and DFT studies on structure, vibrational spectra of 4-tert-butyl-1,3-thiazol-2-amine (BTA)
Theoretical studies have been carried out on 4-tert-butyl-1, 3-thiazol-2-amine (BTA) using both the B3LYP/6-311+G and HF/6-311+G methods. The geometrical parameters and vibrational spectra of BTA have been calculated and analyzed. The calculated IR wavenumbers have been compared with the observed FTIR wavenumbers. The complete assignments have been performed based on the potential energy distribution (PED) of the vibrational modes. The wavenumbers obtained from B3LYP method are in good agreement with the observed wavenumbers when compared to HF method. It has been found that there is an excellent correlation with 0.999 regression coefficient between the experiment and calculated vibrations. Thermal properties like rotational constants, zero point vibrational energies and nonlinear optical properties like dipole moment, hyperpolarizabilities, NBO analysis and the effect of temperature on various thermodynamic properties have been calculated and orted
