A diachronic Italian corpus based on “L’Unità”
In this paper, we describe the creation of a diachronic corpus for Italian by exploiting the digital archive of the newspaper “L’Unità”. We automatically clean and annotate the corpus with PoS tags, lemmas, named entities and syntactic dependencies. Moreover, we compute frequency-based time series for tokens, lemmas and entities. We show some interesting corpus statistics taking into account the temporal dimension and describe some examples of usage of time series
DIACR-Ita @ EVALITA2020: Overview of the EVALITA2020 diachronic lexical semantics (DIACR-Ita) task
This paper describes the first edition of the “Diachronic Lexical Semantics” (DIACR-Ita) task at the EVALITA 2020 campaign. The task challenges participants to develop systems that can automatically detect if a given word has changed its meaning over time, given contextual information from corpora. The task, at its first edition, attracted 9 participant teams and collected a total of 36 submission runs
Impact of climate change on the ground thermal regime in the lower Lena region, Arctic central Siberia
This paper presents the results of 30 years of permafrost thermal monitoring in the Tiksi area in the eastern Russian Arctic. At a stone ridge site, the mean annual temperatures in the upper 30 m of the ground have increased by 1–2.4 C compared to the first years of observations, with trends of C/yr. At the same time, its change was uneven. In the last 20 years, the rate of increase has increased compared with the first decade of observations. At wet tundra sites in the foothill plain, the mean annual temperatures at the top of permafrost have increased by 2.4–2.6 C between 2005 and 2022 at rates of 0.11–0.15 C/yr, and the active layer thicknesses have increased at rates of 0.05–0.41 cm/yr
1,4-Bis[(2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridin-4′-yl)oxy]butane
The title compound, C34H28N6O2, has an inversion centre located at the mid-point of the central C—C bond of the diether bridging unit. The central pyridine rings of the terpyridyl units and the diether chain are co-planar: the maximum deviation from the 18-atom mean plane defined by the bridging unit and the central pyridyl ring is for the pyridyl N atom which sits 0.055 (1) Å above the plane. The dihedral angles between the terminal pyridine rings with this plane are 10.3 (1) and 37.6 (1)°, repectively. In the crystal, weak C—H⋯N interactions link the molecules into infinite chains parallel to the a axis
