    Optimized design of next-generation multiplexing schemes for GNSSs

    Multilevel and multicarrier component signals are now common in many Global Navigation Satellite Systems challenging the employed multiplexing method that needs to be more flexible and powerful. In this work, we demonstrate how, by acting on two parameters of the digital baseband representation of component signals (the sampling frequency and the central frequency of the baseband complex envelope), it is possible to optimize the performance of the multiplexer, while still obtaining a composite signal that fulfills the required system constraints

    Resonant Fully dielectric metasurfaces for ultrafast Terahertz pulse generation

    Metasurfaces represent a new frontier in materials science paving for unprecedented methods of controlling electromagnetic waves, with a range of applications spanning from sensing to imaging and communications. For pulsed terahertz generation, metasurfaces offer a gateway to tuneable thin emitters that can be utilised for large-area imaging, microscopy and spectroscopy. In literature THz-emitting metasurfaces generally exhibit high absorption, being based either on metals or on semiconductors excited in highly resonant regimes. Here we propose the use of a fully dielectric semiconductor exploiting morphology-mediated resonances and inherent quadratic nonlinear response. Our system exhibits a remarkable 40-fold efficiency enhancement compared to the unpatterned at the peak of the optimised wavelength range, demonstrating its potential as scalable emitter design

    Inflammatory Adipokines, High Molecular Weight Adiponectin, and Insulin Resistance: A Population-Based Survey in Prepubertal Schoolchildren

    BackgroundThe aim of this study was to investigate sex differences and associations of high molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin, leptin and proinflammatory adipokines, individually or in combinations, with adiposity and insulin resistance (IR) measures in prepubertal childhood.MethodologyWe studied 305 prepubertal children (boys/girls: 144/161; Tanner stage 1; age: 5-13 yr), included in a cohort of 44,231 adolescents who participated in an extensive Italian school-based survey. According to Cole's criteria, 105 individuals were lean (L; boys/girls: 59/46), 60 overweight (OW; boys/girls: 32/28) and 140 obese (OB; boys/girls: 70/70). Measurements comprised total and HMW adiponectin, leptin, as well as a panel of proinflammatory adipokines/chemokines associated with diabetes risk.Principal findingsLeptin-, and the leptin-to-HMW adiponectin ratio (L/HMW)-, increased progressively (pConclusionsIn prepubertal children, leptin emerges as a sex-independent discrimination marker of adiposity degree and as a useful, sex-associated predictor of the systemic insulin resistance

    Risk portfolio on modern finance has become increasingly technical, requiring the use of sophisticated mathematical tools in both research and practice. Since companies cannot insure themselves completely against risk, as human incompetence in predicting the future precisely that written in Al-Quran surah Luqman verse 34, they have to manage it to yield an optimal portfolio. The objective here is to minimize the variance among all portfolios, or alternatively, to maximize expected return among all portfolios that has at least a certain expected return. Furthermore, this study focuses on optimizing risk portfolio so called Markowitz MVO (Mean-Variance Optimization). Some theoretical frameworks for analysis are arithmetic mean, geometric mean, variance, covariance, linear programming, and quadratic programming. Moreover, finding a minimum variance portfolio produces a convex quadratic programming, that is minimizing the objective function ðð¥with constraintsð ð 𥠥 ðandð´ð¥ = ð. The outcome of this research is the solution of optimal risk portofolio in some investments that could be finished smoothly using MATLAB R2007b software together with its graphic analysis
