Astrophysical and Cosmological Tests of Quantum Theory
We discuss several proposals for astrophysical and cosmological tests of
quantum theory. The tests are motivated by deterministic hidden-variables
theories, and in particular by the view that quantum physics is merely an
effective theory of an equilibrium state. The proposed tests involve searching
for nonequilibrium violations of quantum theory in: primordial inflaton
fluctuations imprinted on the cosmic microwave background, relic cosmological
particles, Hawking radiation, photons with entangled partners inside black
holes, neutrino oscillations, and particles from very distant sources.Comment: 25 pages. Amendment to section 7. Contribution to: "The Quantum

The effect of differential quality and differential zealotry in the best-of-n problem
© 2020 Owner/Author. In this paper, we study the interplay between differential option quality and differential quantity of individuals with fixed option (henceforth called zealots), in a best-of-n problem with n - 2 options. We study how the consensus equilibria change with respect to these two factors. We perform systematic computer simulations in an antagonistic scenario whereby one option has a higher quality but a minority of zealots compared to the other option
Radiation reaction and quantum damped harmonic oscillator
By taking a Klein-Gordon field as the environment of an harmonic oscillator
and using a new method for dealing with quantum dissipative systems (minimal
coupling method), the quantum dynamics and radiation reaction for a quantum
damped harmonic oscillator investigated. Applying perturbation method, some
transition probabilities indicating the way energy flows between oscillator,

A first experimental test of de Broglie-Bohm theory against standard quantum mechanics
De Broglie - Bohm (dBB) theory is a deterministic theory, built for
reproducing almost all Quantum Mechanics (QM) predictions, where position plays
the role of a hidden variable. It was recently shown that different coincidence
patterns are predicted by QM and dBB when a double slit experiment is realised
under specific conditions and, therefore, an experiment can test the two
theories. In this letter we present the first realisation of such a double slit
experiment by using correlated photons produced in type I Parametric Down
Conversion. Our results confirm QM contradicting dBB predictions
Gingival hyperplasia around dental implants in jaws reconstructed with free vascularized flaps: a case report series
Free vascularized flaps are the gold standard for reconstruction of the facial skeleton after surgical ablation of pathologies or when important atrophy of the jaws exists. A frequent problem seen during prosthetic rehabilitation after reconstruction with free vascularized flaps is the onset of hyperplastic granulomatous reactive tissue around the prosthetic abutment of the implant. The features of this phenomenon seem to be directly related to the characteristics of the periimplant tissue and of the manufacturing materials of the prosthesis and abutments. This complication can be seen quite often; we found it in 7 of 40 patients (17.5%). It does not seem to significantly affect the survival rate of implants. The aim of the study was to analyze the behavior of such lesions and to suggest our clinical approach with the management of these kinds of patients and complications. To remove gingival hyperplasia, we used either a traditional cold scalpel or an electric cautery or laser. We had good results using these tools. The onset of this phenomenon was not influenced by either the kind of implant and free flaps used or by the local conditions of the patients (such as radiotherapy). The number of recurrences was highly influenced by the oral hygiene of the patients
Role of Polycarboxylate-ether superplasticizers on cement hydration kinetics and microstructural development
Polycarboxylate-ether (PCE) superplasticizers are a fundamental constituent of modern cementbased materials due to their impact on the rheology of the fresh mix and mechanical performance of the hardened material. The effect of PCEs on cement hydration kinetics has been known since their introduction in the early 1980s. However, detailed knowledge of the role played by PCE macromolecules on the basic mechanisms of cement hydration (dissolution, diffusion, precipitation) is still lacking. A better understanding of how such mechanisms are influenced by the addition of PCE is no doubt beneficial to the design of novel superplasticizing admixtures. Here, I report on some recent findings about the role of PCE superplasticizers on cement hydration kinetics and microstructural development. The interaction between PCE and C3S pastes was investigated by an ad-hoc kinetic model based on a combination of generalized forms of the Avrami and BNG (Boundary Nucleation and Growth) models. The model is used to fit the rate of C-S-H precipitation measured by in-situ X-ray powder diffraction combined with mass balance calculations. The results show that a switch from heterogeneous to homogeneous C-S-H nucleation occurs in the presence of PCEs and that the C-S-H growth rate decreases proportionally to the amount of PCE used. The predicted switch to homogeneous nucleation is in agreement with experimental results obtained by XRD-enhanced micro-tomography imaging, showing that, in the presence of PCE, C-S-H preferentially forms in the pore space rather than at the surface of clinker particles
Learning node labels with multi-category Hopfield networks
In several real-world node label prediction problems on graphs, in fields ranging from computational
biology to World Wide Web analysis, nodes can be partitioned into categories different from the classes to be predicted, on the basis of their characteristics or their common properties. Such partitions may provide further information about node classification that classical machine learning algorithms do not take into account. We introduce a novel family of parametric Hopfield networks (m-category Hopfield networks) and a novel algorithm (Hopfield multi-category \u2014 HoMCat ), designed to appropriately exploit the presence of property-based partitions of nodes into multiple categories. Moreover, the proposed model adopts a cost-sensitive learning strategy to prevent the remarkable decay in performance usually observed when instance labels are unbalanced, that is, when one class of labels is highly underrepresented than the other one. We validate the proposed model on both synthetic and real-world data, in the context of multi-species function
prediction, where the classes to be predicted are the Gene Ontology terms and the categories the different species in the multi-species protein network. We carried out an intensive experimental validation, which on the one hand compares HoMCat with several state-of-the-art graph-based algorithms, and on the other hand reveals that exploiting meaningful prior partitions of input data can substantially improve classification performances
