AQUIFER Nano-Electrofuel Energy Economy and Powered Aircraft Operations
The Aqueous, QUick-charging battery Integration For Electric flight Research project is explained and the major subsystems are described, including nano-electric fluid, rim-driven motors, and integration concepts. The nano-electric fluid concept is a new type of aqueous flow battery that could reduce or retire the fire and explosion hazards of conventional batteries and fuel cells. The nano-electric fluid itself could enable energy storage and increased available energy per fuel weight ratios. The rim-driven motor is being developed to improve propulsion system safety and stability and to reduce noise. The rim-driven motor concept could enable motors that are more efficient both electrically and aerodynamically. The Energy Economy of the project concept is presented as a potential renewable or green energy sustainment for utilizing in-place infrastructure. The nano-electric fluid energy charge-use-recharge cycle is presented using renewable energy input from solar, wind, and hydroelectricity. Powered aircraft operations are presented, and the logistics of the new nano-electric fluid technology are explored. Powered aircraft operations topics include weight and balance, fueling, recharging, safety, and derivative considerations
Arrival direction distribution of cosmic rays of energy 10 (18) eV
The Haverah Park air-shower experiment recorded over 8500 events with primary energy 10 to the 18th power eV between 1963 and 1983. An analysis of these events for anisotropies in celestial and galactic coordinates is reported. No very striking anisotropies are observed
IQRM: real-time adaptive RFI masking for radio transient and pulsar searches
In a search for short timescale astrophysical transients in time-domain data,
radio-frequency interference (RFI) causes both large quantities of false
positive candidates and a significant reduction in sensitivity if not correctly
mitigated. Here we propose an algorithm that infers a time-variable frequency
channel mask directly from short-duration (1 s) data blocks: the method
consists of computing a spectral statistic that correlates well with the
presence of RFI, and then finding high outliers among the resulting values. For
the latter task, we propose an outlier detection algorithm called
Inter-Quartile Range Mitigation (IQRM), that is both non-parametric and robust
to the presence of a trend in sequential data. The method requires no training
and can in principle adapt to any telescope and RFI environment; its efficiency
is shown on data from both the MeerKAT and Lovell 76-m radio telescopes. IQRM
is fast enough to be used in a streaming search and has been integrated into
the MeerTRAP real-time transient search pipeline. Open-source Python and C++
implementations are also provided.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS, 11 pages, 9 figures. Minor
corrections, improved clarity, additional analysis of impact on single pulse
searches. IQRM implementations can be found at

Diverse regimes of mode intensity correlation in nanofiber random lasers through nanoparticle doping
Random lasers are based on disordered materials with optical gain. These
devices can exhibit either intensity or resonant feedback, relying on diffusive
or interference behaviour of light, respectively, which leads to either
coupling or independent operation of lasing modes. We study for the first time
these regimes in complex, solid-state nanostructured materials. The number of
lasing modes and their intensity correlation features are found to be
tailorable in random lasers made of light-emitting, electrospun polymer fibers
upon nanoparticle doping. By material engineering, directional waveguiding
along the length of fibers is found to be relevant to enhance mode correlation
in both intensity feedback and resonant feedback random lasing. The here
reported findings can be used to establish new design rules for tuning the
emission of nano-lasers and correlation properties by means of the
compositional and morphological properties of complex nanostructured materials.Comment: 30 pages, 10 figure
Pseudotemporal ordering of spatial lymphoid tissue microenvironment profiles trails Unclassified DLBCL at the periphery of the follicle
: We have established a pseudotemporal ordering for the transcriptional signatures of distinct microregions within reactive lymphoid tissues, namely germinal center dark zones (DZ), germinal center light zones (LZ), and peri-follicular areas (Peri). By utilizing this pseudotime trajectory derived from the functional microenvironments of DZ, LZ, and Peri, we have ordered the transcriptomes of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma cases. The apex of the resulting pseudotemporal trajectory, which is characterized by enrichment of molecular programs fronted by TNFR signaling and inhibitory immune checkpoint overexpression, intercepts a discrete peri-follicular biology. This observation is associated with DLBCL cases that are enriched in the Unclassified/type-3 COO category, raising questions about the potential extra-GC microenvironment imprint of this peculiar group of cases. This report offers a thought-provoking perspective on the relationship between transcriptional profiling of functional lymphoid tissue microenvironments and the evolving concept of the cell of origin in Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphomas
