This paper focus on the design of adaptive mixed-signal fuzzy chips. These chips have parallel architecture and feature electrically-controlable surface maps. The design methodology is based on the use of composite transistors - modular and well suited for design automation. This methodology is supported by dedicated, hardware-compatible learning algorithms that combine weight-perturbation and outstar

Modular Design of Adaptive Analog CMOS Fuzzy Controller Chips

    Get PDF
Analog circuits are natural candidates to design fuzzy chips with optimum speed/power figures for precision up to about 1%. This paper presents a methodology and circuit blocks to realize fuzzy controllers in the form of analog CMOS chips. These chips can be made to adapt their function through electrical control. The proposed design methodology emphasizes modularity and simplicity at the circuit level -- prerequisites to increasing processor complexity and operation speed. The paper include measurements from a silicon prototype of a fuzzy controller chip in CMOS 1.5μm single-poly technology

The Hele-Shaw asymptotics for mechanical models of tumor growth

Models of tumor growth, now commonly used, present several levels of complexity, both in terms of the biomedical ingredients and the mathematical description. The simplest ones contain competition for space using purely fluid mechanical concepts. Another possible ingredient is the supply of nutrients through vasculature. The models can describe the tissue either at the level of cell densities, or at the scale of the solid tumor, in this latter case by means of a free boundary problem. Our first goal here is to formulate a free boundary model of Hele-Shaw type, a variant including growth terms, starting from the description at the cell level and passing to a certain limit. A detailed mathematical analysis of this purely mechanical model is performed. Indeed, we are able to prove strong convergence in passing to the limit, with various uniform gradient estimates; we also prove uniqueness for the asymptotic Hele-Shaw type problem. The main tools are nonlinear regularizing effects for certain porous medium type equations, regularization techniques \`a la Steklov, and a Hilbert duality method for uniqueness. At variance with the classical Hele-Shaw problem, here the geometric motion governed by the pressure is not sufficient to completely describe the dynamics. A complete description requires the equation on the cell number density. Using this theory as a basis, we go on to consider the more complex model including nutrients. We obtain the equation for the limit of the coupled system; the method relies on some BV bounds and space/time a priori estimates. Here, new technical difficulties appear, and they reduce the generality of the results in terms of the initial data. Finally, we prove uniqueness for the system, a main mathematical difficulty.Comment: 34 pages, 3 figure

We present a parallel architecture for fuzzy controllers and a methodology for their realization as analog CMOS chips for low- and medium-precision applications. These chips can be made to learn through the adaptation of electrically controllable parameters guided by a dedicated hardware-compatible learning algorithm. Our designs emphasize simplicity at the circuit level—a prerequisite for increasing processor complexity and operation speed. Examples include a three-input, four-rule controller chip in 1.5-μm CMOS, single-poly, double-metal technology

Low weight additive manufacturing FBG accelerometer: design, characterization and testing

    Get PDF
Structural Health Monitoring is considered the process of damage detection and structural characterization by any type of on-board sensors. Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBG) are increasing their popularity due to their many advantages like easy multiplexing, negligible weight and size, high sensitivity, inert to electromagnetic fields, etc. FBGs allow obtaining directly strain and temperature, and other magnitudes can also be measured by the adaptation of the Bragg condition. In particular, the acceleration is of special importance for dynamic analysis. In this work, a low weight accelerometer has been developed using a FBG. It consists in a hexagonal lattice hollow cylinder designed with a resonance frequency above 500 Hz. A Finite Element Model (FEM) was used to analyse dynamic behaviour of the sensor. Then, it was modelled in a CAD software and exported to additive manufacturing machines. Finally, a characterization test campaign was carried out obtaining a sensitivity of 19.65 pm/g. As a case study, this paper presents the experimental modal analysis of the wing of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. The measurements from piezoelectric, MEMS accelerometers, embedded FBGs sensors and the developed FBG accelerometer are compared.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad BIA2013-43085-P y BIA2016-75042-C2-1-

Attitudes of residents towards tourism. The case of Benalmadena, Spain

    Get PDF
Tourism is consumed in the place of production causing a series of impacts. These effects caused by tourism can be perceived positively or negatively by residents. The objective of this study is to analyze the attitude of the residents from the impacts of tourism in the town of Benalmádena, Spanish town that is located within the Costa del Sol. We used a quantitative methodology and we have carried out an extensive survey of 770 residents. Information has been collected through questionnaires and there have been exploratory and ANOVA analysis. The results are: the economic benefits are the most important elements sought and valued by the local population. However, they also recognize the negative effects of this dimension, in the same way as with the socio-cultural and environmental impacts. This study is to analyze the attitude of the residents from the impacts of tourism in the town of Benalmádena, Spanish. This is a mature destination framed in a pattern of sun and beach in 2012 has a total of 10,885 hotel places. Benalmádena tourism has a significant oscillation throughout the year, peaking in the months of July to September and the minimum between December and February. This paper reflects on the situation of the Brazilian architect João Vilanova Artigas during the troubled events of the 60s, decade in which consolidates (1961) and breaks (1967) the perfect model of its architecture. Understanding that the architecture of Artigas cannot, and could never, be beamed from the political and social situation suffered by Brazil at every moment of its history, interested to study the designs of a special work, Elza Berquó House, that in its profound inner loneliness rises as a critical body of the Brazilian social situation at the end of the 60s.Peer Reviewe
