    Optimal management of wind and solar energy resources

    This paper presents a portfolio-based approach to the harvesting of renewable energy (RE) resources. Our examined problem setting considers the possibility of distributing the total available capacity across an array of heterogeneous RE generation technologies (wind and solar power production units) being dispersed over a large geographical area. We formulate the capacity allocation process as a bi-objective optimization problem, in which the decision maker seeks to increase the mean productivity of the entire array while having control on the variability of the aggregate energy supply. Using large-scale optimization techniques, we are able to calculate - to an arbitrary degree of accuracy - the complete set of Pareto-optimal configurations of power plants, which attain the maximum possible energy delivery for a given level of power supply risk. Experimental results from a reference geographical region show that wind and solar resources are largely complementary. We demonstrate how this feature could help energy policy makers to improve the overall reliability of future RE generation in a properly designed risk management framework

    An optimal day-ahead load scheduling approach based on the flexibility of aggregate demands

    The increasing trends of energy demand and renewable integration call for new and advanced approaches to energy management and energy balancing in power networks. Utilities and network system operators require more assistance and flexibility shown from consumers in order to manage their power plants and network resources. Demand response techniques allow customers to participate and contribute to the system balancing and improve power quality. Traditionally, only energy-intensive industrial users and large customers actively participated in demand response programs by intentionally modifying their consumption patterns. In contrast, small consumers were not considered in these programs due to their low individual impact on power networks, grid infrastructure and energy balancing. This paper studies the flexibility of aggregated demands of buildings with different characteristics such as shopping malls, offices, hotels and dwellings. By using the aggregated demand profile and the market price predictions, an aggregator participates directly in the day-ahead market to determine the load scheduling that maximizes its economic benefits. The optimization problem takes into account constraints on the demand imposed by the individual customers related to the building occupant comfort. A case study representing a small geographic area was used to assess the performance of the proposed method. The obtained results emphasize the potential of demand aggregation of different customers in order to increase flexibility and, consequently, aggregator profits in the day-ahead market

    Anemos : development of a next generation wind power forecasting system for the large-scale integration of onshore & offshore wind farms

    International audienceThis paper presents the objectives and the research work carried out in the frame of the ANEMOS project on short-term wind power forecasting. The aim of the project is to develop accurate models that substantially outperform current state-of-the-art methods, for onshore and offshore wind power forecasting, exploiting both statistical and physical modeling approaches. The project focus on prediction horizons up to 48 hours ahead and investigates predictability of wind for higher horizons up to 7 days ahead useful i.e. for maintenance scheduling. Emphasis is given on the integration of highresolution meteorological forecasts. For the offshore case, marine meteorology is considered as well as information by satellite-radar images. An integrated software platform, ‘ANEMOS', is developed to host the various models. This system will be installed by several utilities for on-line operation at onshore and offshore wind farms for prediction at a local, regional and national scale. The applications include different terrain types and wind climates, on- and offshore cases, and interconnected or island grids. The on-line operation by the utilities will allow validation of the models and an analysis of the value of wind prediction for a competitive integration of wind energy in the developing liberalized electricity markets in the EU

    International audienceThe aim of the European Project ANEMOS is to develop accurate and robust models that substantially outperform current state-of-the-art methods, for onshore and offshore wind power forecasting. Advanced statistical, physical and combined modelling approaches were developed for this purpose. Priority was given to methods for on-line uncertainty and prediction risk assessment. An integrated software platform, 'ANEMOS', was developed to host the various models. This system is installed by several end-users for on-line operation and evaluation at a local, regional and national scale. Finally, the project demonstrates the value of wind forecasts for the power system management and market integration of wind power.     The incidence of pressure ulcers in patients after coronary artery bypass graft

    Tato bakalářská práce se orientuje na téma Výskyt dekubitů u pacientů po aortokoronárním bypassu na kardiochirurgickém oddělení jednotky pooperační resuscitační péče v Nemocnici Na Homolce. V teoretické části práce definuji dekubity, klasifikaci dekubitů, prevenci a léčbu. Téma rozšiřuji o způsoby hojení ran a rizika vzniku dekubitů, která mohou ohrožovat pacienta po srdečním bypassu. Druhá polovina práce je zpracována formou kvalitativního výzkumu - kazuistiky. Je zde popsána ošetřovatelská problematika výskytu dekubitů u dvou pacientů. Výstup z práce bude zveřejněn v odborném časopise s lékařskou tématikou.ObhájenoThe focus of this bachelor's thesis is on the topic of the presssure ulcer incidence amongst the patients following a coronary artery bypass graft. The study was carried out at the department of the post operative intensive care cardiac surgery unit, Nemocnice Na Homolce. The theoretical part provides definitions of the pressure ulcers, the classification of decubitus, the prevention and the treatment. I further extend the topic by the possible ways of wounds healing and the risk of pressure sores fromation, which can threaten the patient after the heart bypass surgery. The second part is approached through a qualitative research of the case studies. It describes the issues related to the nursing of two patients, who suffered from the occurence of the pressure ulcers. The resulting output of this thesis will be published in a scientific journal with a medical theme
