A new functional for charge and mass identification in Delta E-E telescopes
We propose a new functional for the charge and mass identification in Delta
E-E telescopes. This functional is based on Bethe's formula, allowing safe
interpolation or extrapolation in regions with low statistics. When applied to
telescopes involving detectors delivering a linear response, as silicon
detectors or ionization chambers, a good mass and charge identification is
achieved. For other detectors, as caesium-iodide used as a final member of a
telescope, a good accuracy is also obtained except in the low residual energy
region. A good identification is however recovered if a non-linear energy
dependence of the light output is included.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, LaTeX2e + EPS figures reduced in size Submitted

Fine structure of the 0.7 MeV resonance in the 230Th neutron--induced cross section
The fine structure of the 0.7 MeV resonance in the 230Th neutron-induced
cross section is investigated within the hybrid model. A very good agreement
with experimental data is obtained. It is suggested that fine structure of the
cross section quantify the changes of the intrinsic states of the nucleus
during the disintegration process.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Effect of nuclear periphery on nucleon transfer in peripheral collisions
A comparison of experimental heavy residue cross sections from the reactions
86Kr+64Ni,112,124Sn with the model of deep-inelastic transfer (DIT) is carried
out. A modified expression for nucleon transfer probabilities is used at
non-overlapping projectile-target configurations, introducing a dependence on
isospin asymmetry at the nuclear periphery. The experimental yields of
neutron-rich nuclei close to the projectile are reproduced better and the trend
deviating from the bulk isospin equilibration is explained. For the
neutron-rich products further from the projectile, originating from hot
quasiprojectiles, the statistical multifragmentation model reproduces the mass
distributions better than the model of sequential binary decay. In the reaction
with proton-rich target 112Sn the nucleon exchange appears to depend on isospin
asymmetry of nuclear periphery only when surface separation is larger than 0.8
fm due to the stronger Coulomb interaction at more compact di-nuclear
configuration.Comment: LaTeX, 13 pages, 7 figures, to appear in Nuclear Physics
CONFLITTI SOCIO-AMBIENTALI “ORIZZONTALI”: gli “indiretti” e la Reserva Extrativista Quilombo do Frechal (Maranhão)
ABSTRACTBased on an ethnographic research conducted in the Reserva Extrativista Quilombo do Frechal (Maranhão, Brazil) in 2006, this paper proposes an anthropological analysis of the conflicts emerged after the institution of this “socio-environmentalist” protected area. The creation of the reserve, inhabited by a community of Amazonian descendants of African slaves (quilombolas), put an end to a long period of fight against a local nester. Meanwhile, it unexpectedly laid the basis for new forms of conflict between Frechal and the people remained out of the borders of reserve and without any right of access to natural resources of that area. This case-study underlines the importance of focusing the attention not only on classic “vertical” socio-environmental conflicts over the use of the natural environment between local communities and states or enterprises but also on “horizontal” ones, involving local communities that share the same socio-economic status. At the same time, this paper highlights the relevance of considering the social dynamics that occur not only inside a protected area, but also outside of it, by taking into account the consequences of its presence in the wider municipal context. This contribution will show how the political dimension of this conflict cannot be completely understood without considering the complex sedimentation of different conceptions of appropriation of nature and the customary rules of use of the forest.KEYWORSSocio-Environmental Conflicts; Territory; Natural Resource; Political Ecolog
