    Signal Detection for QPSK Based Cognitive Radio Systems using Support Vector Machines

    Cognitive radio based network enables opportunistic dynamic spectrum access by sensing, adopting and utilizing the unused portion of licensed spectrum bands. Cognitive radio is intelligent enough to adapt the communication parameters of the unused licensed spectrum. Spectrum sensing is one of the most important tasks of the cognitive radio cycle. In this paper, the auto-correlation function kernel based Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier along with Welch's Periodogram detector is successfully implemented for the detection of four QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) based signals propagating through an AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise) channel. It is shown that the combination of statistical signal processing and machine learning concepts improve the spectrum sensing process and spectrum sensing is possible even at low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) values up to -50 dB

A survey approach, using a close ended questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection. A sample of (106) male students who had played during their different levels of education. The set hypotheses were tested with significant value 0.05.     We present a calculation of the perturbative matching coefficients including mixing with higher dimensional operators for the temporal component of the heavy-light axial current, A4A_{4}, and the ΔB=2\Delta B=2 operator, OSO_S. For A4static,NRQCDA_{4}^{\scriptsize static, NRQCD}, calculations with various RG-improved gauge actions are peformed.     Two flavors of dynamical quarks on anisotropic lattices

    We report on our study of two-flavor full QCD on anisotropic lattices using O(a)O(a)-improved Wilson quarks coupled with an RG-improved glue. The bare gauge and quark anisotropies corresponding to the renormalized anisotropy ξ=as/at=2\xi=a_s/a_t = 2 are determined as functions of β\beta and κ\kappa, which covers the region of spatial lattice spacings as0.28a_s\approx 0.28--0.16 fm and mPS/mV0.6m_{PS}/m_V\approx 0.6--0.9. The calibrations of the bare anisotropies are performed with the Wilson loop and the meson dispersion relation at 4 lattice cutoffs and 5--6 quark masses. Using the calibration results we calculate the meson mass spectrum and the Sommer scale r0r_0. We confirm that the values of r0r_0 calculated for the calibration using pseudo scalar and vector meson energy momentum dispersion relation coincide in the continuum limit within errors. This work serves to lay ground toward studies of heavy quark systems and thermodynamics of QCD including the extraction of the equation of state in the continuum limit using Wilson-type quark actions.Comment: 16 pages, 23 figures, Version accepted for publication in Physical Review

    Characterization of pathogenic mutations in 21-hydroxylase gene of Pakistani patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia and their family members--a preliminary report

    Objective: To characterize specific mutations within the 21-hydroxylase gene (CYP21-B) using ARMS-PCR assay in patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and to compare it with that reported in other populations. Subjects and Methods: Five families, having an index case with CAH diagnosed on the basis of clinical and biochemical findings volunteered to give blood samples for analysis. A strategy, based on ARMS-PCR (Amplified Refractory Mutation System) was employed for the detection of mutations in 21-hydroxylase gene. The products of ARMS-PCR were resolved on agarose gels and the PCR products were visualized over ultra violet illumination. Results: Twenty-six specimens were analyzed for common point mutations in the 21-hydroxlase genes at the nucleotide positions 659, 1004 and 1688. Seven samples belonged to index cases with CAH. Of these 7, the assigned sex was male in 5 and female in 2 cases. However, genotypic sex was 3 males and 4 females. The mean age was 8 months in 5 cases while the median 17-OH Progesterone levels was 273.2 ng/ml. Vomiting, precocious puberty and ambiguous genitalia were the presenting features in 2, 1 and 4 cases respectively. Analysis for mutation at 659, 100 and 1688 was performed on 7 index cases and the family members of 5 index cases. The mutation analysis for the family members of index case 6 and 7 was not performed due to non-availability of their blood specimens. Index case No. 1, 4 and 7 showed homozygosity for splice mutations at nucleotide position 659, intron 2 with a sequence change of A to G, while the index case No. 2 and 6 showed heterozygosity for the same mutation. No mutation was found at 659, 1004 or 1688 in index case No. 3 and 4 at the analyzed nucleotide position. Nineteen family members of Case Nos. 1-5 were also analyzed for the same mutations. (Family No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 included 3, 2, 7, 4 and 5 members respectively). These included 8 males and 11 females. All were asymptomatic. Both the parents of index case 1 and 4 were heterozygous at 659 while the father of index case No. 2 was heterozygous at 659 and mother was normal. Conculsion: Our results demonstrated the A to G transition at nucleotide 659 causing aberrant splicing, reported for some other populations as the most commonly identified point mutations. All cases were appropriately assigned to paternal or maternal chromosomes

    Are Topological Charge Fluctuations in QCD Instanton Dominated?

    We consider a recent proposal by Horv\'ath {\em et al.} to address the question whether topological charge fluctuations in QCD are instanton dominated via the response of fermions using lattice fermions with exact chiral symmetry, the overlap fermions. Considering several volumes and lattice spacings we find strong evidence for chirality of a finite density of low-lying eigenvectors of the overlap-Dirac operator in the regions where these modes are peaked. This result suggests instanton dominance of topological charge fluctuations in quenched QCD.Comment: LaTeX, 15 pages, 8 postscript figures, minor improvements, version to appear in PR

    Flavor Singlet Meson Mass in the Continuum Limit in Two-Flavor Lattice QCD

    We present results for the mass of the eta-prime meson in the continuum limit for two-flavor lattice QCD, calculated on the CP-PACS computer, using a renormalization-group improved gauge action, and Sheikholeslami and Wohlert's fermion action with tadpole-improved csw. Correlation functions are measured at three values of the coupling constant beta corresponding to the lattice spacing a approx. 0.22, 0.16, 0.11 fm and for four values of the quark mass parameter kappa corresponding to mpi over mrho approx. 0.8, 0.75, 0.7 and 0.6. For each beta, kappa pair, 400-800 gauge configurations are used. The two-loop diagrams are evaluated using a noisy source method. We calculate eta-prime propagators using local sources, and find that excited state contributions are much reduced by smearing. A full analysis for the smeared propagators gives metaprime=0.960(87)+0.036-0.248 GeV, in the continuum limit, where the second error represents the systematic uncertainty coming from varying the functional form for chiral and continuum extrapolations.Comment: 9 pages, 19 figures, 4 table

    The monitoring system for the aerogel Cherenkov counter of the BELLE detector

    We report on a design and performances of a monitoring system developed for the aerogel Cherenkov counters (ACC) of the BELLE detector. The system consists of blue LEDs, a diffuser box, and optical distributors which distribute the LED light to the ACC modules. The employed LED (NSPB series) has been observed to have high reliability on the long term stability and the temprature dependence. The diffuser box is employed to reduce the intrinsic non-uniformity of the LED light intensity. The overall performances of the present monitoring system on uniformity and intensity of the light output have been found to satisfy all the requirements for the monitoring.Comment: 24 pages, LaTeX, 13 eps figures, to be published in Nucl.
