Studying the yarn formation with the swirling air concept arouse of interest of the researchers for a long time because it appears to be easy to understand as a spinning principle. These kinds of systems are known as the vortex yarn spinning systems. The air-jet spinning methods have been developed since it is possible to eliminate the movable elements as the spindle and the traveler in ring spinning or the centrifuge in rotor spinning. The success of Murata vortex spinning (MVS) system which is the newest system after all studies of air-jet systems has been much acceptable especially for the spinning ability of 100% cotton in high speeds (500 m/min) and the yarn structure resembling ring yarn structure rather than rotor yarns. This study summarizes the historical background of vortex spinning, the spinning principle and the structure of the yarn spun on this system, as well as the factors influencing the yarn quality and finally the developments in vortex spinning technology

Using the rope, braiding, weaving and knitting techniques small diameter circular fabric forms are obtained in textile. These kinds of fabric forms and their composites are widely used in dailiy life and in the industry as technical textiles. After making literature survey on this subject we have seen that while very small diameter circular knitting machines which could knit plain knitted fabrics on a cylinder, existed in the literature, there is no such machine for knitting of fabrics in rib forms. For the above reason, in this study, the aim was to design a very small diameter circular knitting machine which can knit fabrics in rib forms. After giving some basic knowledge on knitted fabrics and also on classical knitting machines, a functional rib knitted cord is explained. This cord was originally designed by Kurbak and application for Turkish patent of it was made by Kurbak and Soydan with order number 2011/00438. This cord is our interest here because it can be knit on such a very small diameter circular rib knitting machine. During designing of small diameter rib knitting machine, design parameters were so adjusted that this cord can also be knit on the machine. Finally, a very small diameter circular rib knitting machine which has double cylinder with some circular arc shaped needles are designed. The prototype of this machine is manufactured. The Turkish patent application of this machine is also made by Soydan and Kurbak with the patent order number 2011/00483. As a result, it is thought that by giving a newly designed knitting machine this thesis will contribute to the textile machinery industry with global impact

    Geometrical Models for Balanced Rib Knitted Fabrics Part III: 2 x 2, 3 x 3, 4 x 4, and 5 x 5 Rib Fabrics

    No full text
Since there are no such models in the literature, geometrical models for 2 x 2, 3 x 3, 4 x 4, and 5 x 5 rib fabrics are created in this paper. To obtain these models, the degree of widthwise curling for each fabric is assessed from photographs and the regions between the I X 1 rib parts and the curled plain knit parts of the mentioned structures are modeled in this paper, making yarn curvatures continuous throughout the structure concerned. Models created are drawn to scale by the graphical program 3DS-Max. During the creation of these models, it is emphasized that K, values are almost the same for all the m X m rib fabrics and the second kind of spiralities which are effective on m X m ribs are also considered

A functional rib-knitted cord and the knitting machine for its production were designed having Turkish Patent Institute Applications No: 2011/00438 and No: 2011/00483 respectively. Functions such as mechanical, thermal etc. can be cultivated using the designed cord. Our interest here is to introduce this newly designed cord and to give a geometrical model for this cord. The model is created and drawn to scale by using the 3DS-Max computer graphical program. The model is the general one and can be applied to various applications of the structure of various tightness values; therefore, the direct comparison of the model with any set of experimental findings, depending on the application area of the cord, is left for the future. However, the assumptions about obtaining spirally connected loops of the model are observed to be correct, as the loop shapes are similar when we compare them with the real cord knitted as samples. © 2013, SAGE Publications. Comparison of fabric properties knitted by pin spacer compact and conventional compact yarns

    No full text
This study examined the influence of pin spacer apparatus attachment on compact yarn quality parameters and physical properties of knitted fabrics manufactured using those 100% cotton compact yarns. Two groups of compact yarns were spun on regular compact yarn spinning frame with and without addition of pin spacer apparatus which is placed at the end of the drawing unit of regular compact yarn spinning frame. Totally eight yarns were spun at four different yarn number levels (Ne 24/1, Ne 30/1, Ne 36/1 and Ne 40/1) and two different spinning conditions (with and without pin spacer apparatus). Spun yarn types were then knitted on the industrial sized plain knitting machine. Knitted fabrics were used in the greige and dyed form to evaluate their bursting strength (kPa), dimensional change, abrasion related mass loss (%), pilling resistance, air permeability (mm/s) and colour difference. Test results were then statistically evaluated and influence of pin spacer attachment on yarn quality parameters and fabric properties was determined. In the frame of this experimental work, attachment of pin spacer apparatus improved compact yarn characteristics especially at yarn evenness, imperfection and hairiness values. In case of knitted fabric properties, it was found that pin spacer apparatus attached compact yarn utilization significantly improved air permeability properties of knitted fabrics. © 2019, © 2019 The Textile Institute
