    International audienceThe first search for nonresonant Bc+π+μ+μB_c^+\to\pi^+\mu^+\mu^- decays is reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb1^{-1}. No evidence for an excess of signal events over background is observed and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction ratio B(Bc+π+μ+μ)/B(Bc+J/ψπ+)<2.1×104{\cal B}(B_c^+\to\pi^+\mu^+\mu^-)/{\cal B}(B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+) < 2.1\times 10^{-4} at 90%90\% confidence level. Additionally, an updated measurement of the ratio of the Bc+ψ(2S)π+B_c^+\to\psi(2S)\pi^+ and Bc+J/ψπ+B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+ branching fractions is reported. The ratio B(Bc+ψ(2S)π+)/B(Bc+J/ψπ+){\cal B}(B_c^+\to\psi(2S)\pi^+)/{\cal B}(B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+) is measured to be 0.254±0.018±0.003±0.0050.254\pm 0.018 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.005, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the leptonic J/ψJ/\psi and ψ(2S)\psi(2S) decays. This measurement is the most precise to date and is consistent with previous LHCb results

    Measurement of prompt D+D^+ and Ds+D^+_{s} production in pPbp\mathrm{Pb} collisions at sNN=5.02\sqrt {s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02\,TeV

    International audienceThe production of prompt D+D^+ and Ds+D^+_{s} mesons is studied in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02\sqrt {s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02\,TeV. The data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of (1.58±0.02)nb1(1.58\pm0.02)\mathrm{nb}^{-1} is collected by the LHCb experiment at the LHC. The differential production cross-sections are measured using D+D^+ and Ds+D^+_{s} candidates with transverse momentum in the range of 0<pT<14GeV/c0<p_{\mathrm{T}} <14\,\mathrm{GeV}/c and rapidities in the ranges of 1.5<y<4.01.5<y^*<4.0 and 5.0<y<2.5-5.0<y^*<-2.5 in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. For both particles, the nuclear modification factor and the forward-backward production ratio are determined. These results are compared with theoretical models that include initial-state nuclear effects. In addition, measurements of the cross-section ratios between D+D^+, Ds+D^+_{s} and D0D^0 mesons are presented, providing a baseline for studying the charm hadronization in lead-lead collisions at LHC energies

    Fraction of χc\chi_c decays in prompt J/ψJ/\psi production measured in pPb collisions at sNN=8.16\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.16 TeV

    International audienceThe fraction of χc1\chi_{c1} and χc2\chi_{c2} decays in the prompt J/ψJ/\psi yield, Fχc=σχcJ/ψ/σJ/ψF_{\chi c}=\sigma_{\chi_c \to J/\psi}/\sigma_{J/\psi}, is measured by the LHCb detector in pPb collisions at sNN=8.16\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.16 TeV. The study covers the forward (1.5<y<4.01.5<y^*<4.0) and backward (5.0<y<2.5-5.0<y^*<-2.5) rapidity regions, where yy^* is the J/ψJ/\psi rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass system. Forward and backward rapidity samples correspond to integrated luminosities of 13.6 ±\pm 0.3 nb1^{-1} and 20.8 ±\pm 0.5 nb1^{-1}, respectively. The result is presented as a function of the J/ψJ/\psi transverse momentum pT,J/ψp_{T,J/\psi} in the range 1<pT,J/ψ<20<p_{T, J/\psi}<20 GeV/cc. The FχcF_{\chi c} fraction at forward rapidity is compatible with the LHCb measurement performed in pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 TeV, whereas the result at backward rapidity is 2.4 σ\sigma larger than in the forward region for 1<pT,J/ψ<31<p_{T, J/\psi}<3 GeV/cc. The increase of FχcF_{\chi c} at low pT,J/ψp_{T, J/\psi} at backward rapidity is compatible with the suppression of the ψ\psi(2S) contribution to the prompt J/ψJ/\psi yield. The lack of in-medium dissociation of χc\chi_c states observed in this study sets an upper limit of 180 MeV on the free energy available in these pPb collisions to dissociate or inhibit charmonium state formation

    Associated production of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and Υ\mathit{\Upsilon} mesons in pppp collisions at s=13TeV\sqrt{s}=13\,\mathrm{TeV}

    International audienceThe associated production of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and Υ\mathit{\mathit{\Upsilon}} mesons in pppp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13TeV\sqrt{s}=13\,\mathrm{TeV} is studied using LHCb data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4fb14\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}. The measurement is performed for J/ψJ/\psi (Υ\mathit{\Upsilon}) mesons with a transverse momentum pT<10(30)GeV/cp_{\mathrm{T}}<10\,(30)\,\mathrm{GeV}/c in the rapidity range 2.0<y<4.52.0<y<4.5. In this kinematic range, the cross-section of the associated production of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and Υ(1S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(1S) mesons is measured to be 133±22±7±3pb133 \pm 22 \pm 7 \pm 3 \, \mathrm{pb}, with a significance of 7.9σ7.9\,\sigma, and that of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and Υ(2S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(2S) mesons to be 76±21±4±7pb76\pm 21 \pm 4 \pm 7 \, \mathrm{pb}, with a significance of 4.9σ4.9\,\sigma. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to uncertainties on the used branching fractions. This is the first observation of the associated production of J/ψJ/\psi and Υ(1S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(1S) in proton-proton collisions. Differential cross-sections are measured as function of variables that are sensitive to kinematic correlations between the J/ψJ/\psi and Υ(1S)\mathit{\Upsilon}(1S) mesons. The effective cross-sections of the associated production of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and Υ\mathit{\Upsilon} mesons are obtained and found to be compatible with measurements using other particle productions

    International audienceA study of the B+KS0K+Kπ+B^+\to K^0_SK^+K^-\pi^+ and B+KS0K+K+πB^+\to K^0_SK^+K^+\pi^- decays is performed using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV at the LHCb experiment. The KS0KπK^0_SK \pi invariant mass spectra from both decay modes reveal a rich content of charmonium resonances. New precise measurements of the ηc\eta_c and ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S) resonance parameters are performed and branching fraction measurements are obtained for B+B^+ decays to ηc\eta_c, J/ψJ/\psi, ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S) and χc1\chi_{c1} resonances. In particular, the first observation and branching fraction measurement of B+χc0K0π+B^+ \to \chi_{c0} K^0 \pi^+ is reported as well as first measurements of the B+K0K+Kπ+B^+\to K^0K^+K^-\pi^+ and B+K0K+K+πB^+\to K^0K^+K^+\pi^- branching fractions. Dalitz plot analyses of ηcKS0Kπ\eta_c \to K^0_SK\pi and ηc(2S)KS0Kπ\eta_c(2S) \to K^0_SK\pi decays are performed. A new measurement of the amplitude and phase of the KπK \piSS-wave as functions of the KπK \pi mass is performed, together with measurements of the K0(1430)K^*_0(1430), K0(1950)K^*_0(1950) and a0(1700)a_0(1700) parameters. Finally, the branching fractions of χc1\chi_{c1} decays to KK^* resonances are also measured

    International audienceA measurement of C ⁣PC\!P-violating observables in B±DK±B^{\pm} \to D^{*} K^{\pm} and B±Dπ±B^{\pm} \to D^{*} \pi^{\pm} decays is made where the photon or neutral pion from the DDγD^{*} \to D\gamma or DDπ0D^{*} \to D\pi^{0} decay is not reconstructed. The DD meson is reconstructed in the self-conjugate decay modes, DKS0π+πD \to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-} or DKS0K+KD \to K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}. The distribution of signal yields in the DD decay phase space is analysed in a model-independent way. The measurement uses a data sample collected in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of approximately 9 fb1^{-1}. The B±DK±B^{\pm} \to D^{*} K^{\pm} and B±Dπ±B^{\pm} \to D^{*} \pi^{\pm}C ⁣PC\!P-violating observables are interpreted in terms of hadronic parameters and the CKM angle γ\gamma, resulting in a measurement of γ=(9217+21)\gamma = (92^{+21}_{-17})^{\circ}. The total uncertainty includes the statistical and systematic uncertainties, and the uncertainty due to external strong-phase inputs

    Observation of strangeness enhancement with charmed mesons in high-multiplicity pPbp\mathrm{Pb} collisions at sNN=8.16\sqrt {s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=8.16\,TeV

    No full text
    International audienceThe production of prompt Ds+D^+_{s} and D+D^+ mesons is measured by the LHCb experiment in proton-lead (pPbp\mathrm{Pb}) collisions in both the forward (1.5<y<4.01.5<y^*<4.0) and backward (5.0<y<2.5-5.0<y^*<-2.5) rapidity regions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN=8.16\sqrt {s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=8.16\,TeV. The nuclear modification factors of both Ds+D^+_{s} and D+D^+ mesons are determined as a function of transverse momentum, pTp_{\mathrm{T}}, and rapidity. In addition, the Ds+D^+_{s} to D+D^+ cross-section ratio is measured as a function of the charged particle multiplicity in the event. An enhanced Ds+D^+_{s} to D+D^+ production in high-multiplicity events is observed for the whole measured pTp_{\mathrm{T}} range, in particular at low pTp_{\mathrm{T}} and backward rapidity, where the significance exceeds six standard deviations. This constitutes the first observation of strangeness enhancement in charm quark hadronization in high-multiplicity pPbp\mathrm{Pb} collisions. The results are also qualitatively consistent with the presence of quark coalescence as an additional charm quark hadronization mechanism in high-multiplicity proton-lead collisions
