Stress-strain analysis of tooth with root inlay

    Get PDF
This thesis deals with the dental biomechanics, specifically with root inlays. Most often, two specific types of these inlays are applied: steel and composite. These inlays are fixed to endodontically treated tooth canal with luting cement and finally the crown is fixed to these inlays. The advantage of this restoration is the fact that the prime periodontal connection between tooth and bone remains preserved. The main purpose of this thesis was performing research study of root inlays. In the next part of this thesis the Stressdeformation analysis was performed using computational modeling and better inlay (comparing two samples: steel and composite) was chosen according to a stress in the dentin. The solution of this problem was performed with Fined Element Method.

Plasma Flow and Temperature in a Gliding Reactor with Different Electrode Configurations

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the plasma flow shape depending on the electrode form of a gliding discharge plasma-chemical reactor, and with the temperature distribution along the direction of the plasma flow in one specific electrode form. The shape of the electrodes and their mutual position has a significant influence on the design of a gliding discharge reactor and its applications. It is crucial to know the temperature distribution in the reactor’s chamber design and discharge application. Three configurations with model shapes of wire electrodes were therefore tested (low-divergent, circular, high-divergent) and the plasma flow was described. The experiments were performed in air at atmospheric pressure and at room temperature. In order to map the reactive plasma region of the flow we investigated the visible spectral lines that were emitted. The gas temperature was measured using an infrared camera

Immunomodulation of Avian Dendritic Cells under the Induction of Prebiotics

    Get PDF
Although the immunomodulatory properties of prebiotics were demonstrated many years ago in poultry, not all mechanisms of action are yet clear. Dendritic cells (DCs) are the main antigen-presenting cells orchestrating the immune response in the chicken gastrointestinal tract, and they are the first line of defense in the immune response. Despite the crucial role of DCs in prebiotic immunomodulatory properties, information is lacking about interaction between prebiotics and DCs in an avian model. Mannan-oligosaccharides, β-glucans, fructooligosaccharides, and chitosan-oligosaccharides are the main groups of prebiotics having immunomodulatory properties. Because pathogen-associated molecular patterns on these prebiotics are recognized by many receptors of DCs, prebiotics can mimic activation of DCs by pathogens. Short-chain fatty acids are products of prebiotic fermentation by microbiota, and their anti-inflammatory properties have also been demonstrated in DCs. This review summarizes current knowledge about avian DCs in the gastrointestinal tract, and for the first-time, their role in the immunomodulatory properties of prebiotics within an avian model.O

INHIBITION OF CANDIDA ALBICANS GROWTH ON SURFACES TREATED BY DIELECTRIC BARRIER DISCHARGE WITH VARIOUS BARRIERS

    Get PDF
Discharges generating low temperature plasma at atmospheric pressure have the potential to treat surfaces biologically contaminated by organic matter in a non-destructive manner. We have been studying ways of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms with the use of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma. The effect of the choice of a barrier material and its thickness on thegermicide properties of the DBD is described. We used Saboraud agar inoculated by 105 cfu/cm2 of Candida albicans yeast as the model contaminated surface. After cultivation, the proportion of the treated surface with no C. albicans colony was evaluated

Excitonic Nature of Carotenoid-Phthalocyanine Dyads and Its Role in Transient Absorption Spectra

    Get PDF
Artificial carotenoid-tetrapyrrole dyads have been extensively used as model systems to understand the quenching mechanisms that occur in light-harvesting complexes during nonphotochemical quenching. In particular, dyads containing a carotenoid covalently linked to a zinc phthalocyanine have been studied by transient absorption spectroscopy, and the observed signals have been interpreted in terms of an excitonically coupled state involving the lowest excited states of the two fragments. If present, such excitonic delocalization would have significant implications on the mechanism of nonphotochemical quenching. Here, we use quantum chemical calculations to show that this delocalization is not needed to reproduce the transient absorption spectra. On the contrary, the observed signals can be explained through excitonic couplings in the higher-energy manifold of states. We also argue that the covalent linkage between the two fragments allows for electronic communications, which complicates the analysis of the spectra based on two independent but coupled moieties. These findings call for a more thorough reassessment of the photophysics in these dyads and its implications in the context of natural nonphotochemical quenching

    Apoptosis of Eosinophil Granulocytes

    Get PDF
In the past 10 years, the number of people in the Czech Republic with allergies has doubled to over three million. Allergic pollen catarrh, constitutional dermatitis and asthma are the allergic disorders most often diagnosed. Genuine food allergies today affect 6-8% of nursing infants, 3-5% of small children, and 2-4% of adults. These disorders are connected with eosinophil granulocytes and their apoptosis. Eosinophil granulocytes are postmitotic leukocytes containing a number of histotoxic substances that contribute to the initiation and continuation of allergic inflammatory reactions. Eosinophilia results from the disruption of the standard half-life of eosinophils by the expression of mechanisms that block the apoptosis of eosinophils, leading to the development of chronic inflammation. Glucocorticoids are used as a strong acting anti-inflammatory medicine in the treatment of hypereosinophilia. The removal of eosinophils by the mechanism of apoptosis is the effect of this process. This work sums up the contemporary knowledge concerning the apoptosis of eosinophils, its role in the aforementioned disorders, and the indications for the use of glucocorticoids in their related therapies.O
