    ROLE OF EXERCISES AND DIETARY INTAKE AS AN INTERVENTION IN WEIGHT REDUCTION

    Background: Obesity is now so common within the world’s population that it is beginning to replace under nutrition and infectious disease as the most significant contributor to ill health. Exercise plays significance role with dietary control in weight reduction. The aim of our study is to find out the efficacy of weight reduction interventions and role of exercise. Methods: The study was conducted on 60 participants, subjects or participants were randomly divided. It is an experimental study which was completed in the duration of about six months. The study was based on two groups that are group A (exercise plus dietary) and group B (only dietary) consisting of sixty participants after filling the consent form. Result: Result shows out of these sixty only fifty eight participants completed the study and were observed for four months. Is has been found comparable weight loss relatively fewer in the dietary group Body weight before (80.1±2.7) after (78.1±2.5)and BMI before (32±2) after (30±2) it shows significant results but less significant than group A body weight which was before(78.6±2.6) after(64.0±2.3) and BMI before (33±1) after (39±1). Therefore the results shows that the group A shows more significant outcomes as compare to the other group included in the study.     Breast cancer management pathways during the COVID-19 pandemic: outcomes from the UK ‘Alert Level 4’ phase of the B-MaP-C study

    Abstract: Background: The B-MaP-C study aimed to determine alterations to breast cancer (BC) management during the peak transmission period of the UK COVID-19 pandemic and the potential impact of these treatment decisions. Methods: This was a national cohort study of patients with early BC undergoing multidisciplinary team (MDT)-guided treatment recommendations during the pandemic, designated ‘standard’ or ‘COVID-altered’, in the preoperative, operative and post-operative setting. Findings: Of 3776 patients (from 64 UK units) in the study, 2246 (59%) had ‘COVID-altered’ management. ‘Bridging’ endocrine therapy was used (n = 951) where theatre capacity was reduced. There was increasing access to COVID-19 low-risk theatres during the study period (59%). In line with national guidance, immediate breast reconstruction was avoided (n = 299). Where adjuvant chemotherapy was omitted (n = 81), the median benefit was only 3% (IQR 2–9%) using ‘NHS Predict’. There was the rapid adoption of new evidence-based hypofractionated radiotherapy (n = 781, from 46 units). Only 14 patients (1%) tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 during their treatment journey. Conclusions: The majority of ‘COVID-altered’ management decisions were largely in line with pre-COVID evidence-based guidelines, implying that breast cancer survival outcomes are unlikely to be negatively impacted by the pandemic. However, in this study, the potential impact of delays to BC presentation or diagnosis remains unknown

    ABSTRACT Antipsychotic medications may reduce or eliminate symptoms of psychosis. They are not a 'cure' for mental illnesses, but can be an effective part of treating mental disorders. Even though many of the antipsychotics such as haloperidol cannot cure mental illnesses, they are effective in eliminating or reducing psychotic symptoms. However, prolong administration of haloperidol may result in parkinsonian like effects and tardive dyskinesia. The objective of the present research was to determine the effects of long term co-administration of RRBO in diet on haloperidol induced anxiety and EPS. It was hypothesized that co-administration of RRBO by the free radicals scavenging property could alleviate parkinsonian like effects and tardive dyskinesia. The present results showed a reversal of haloperidol induced parkinsonian like effects and tardive dyskinesia in rats cotreated with RRBO

    Biogeochemical investigation of Pteropyrum olivieri, a flora of Wadh area in perspective of plant-soil-rock relationship has been made. It is a native of Irano-Turanian region which extended into Saharo-Sindian region of Pakistan. The distribution of P. olivieri and some other co-ecological flora in relation to lithology was also discussed. Field observations showed its controlled population on the serpentine soil. The average abundance of Mg and Ca in soil was estimated as 2.43% and 5.46 respectively. The Mg/Ca ratio of the soils of the study area was below unity (0.445), indicating pedogenesis from serpentinite. Quantitative estimation of Cr, Ni, Co and Cu in soils and plant ash was made. Distribution of these elements has been discussed in context with soil chemistry, average abundance in plant ash and the exclusion mechanism of the flora. The concentration of Cr, Ni and Co in the twigs of P. olivieri is more than the average abundance in the plant ash, while Cu concentration was less. Relationship among Cr, Ni, Co and Cu has been established using scatter-grams to evaluate biogeochemistry of the P. olivieri. Bio-concentration factor (BCF) of the specie attributed Co>Cu>Ni>Cr trend. Present study signifies a number of anomalous zones which can be utilized for the exploration of new hidden mineral deposits in and around Wadh area. The rocks in the anomalous zone served as good host for podiform chromite and associated mineralization

    Optimization of protease production from newly isolated strain of <i>Bacillus </i>sp. PCSIR EA-3

    286-290A newly isolated strain of Bacillus sp. PCSIR EA-3 showed maximum protease production in 48 h. Cell free filtrate (CFF) from the strain was investigated for its proteolytic activity. The isolated strain exhibited highest proteolytic activity when grown on skim milk agar; average area of zone of inhibition was 480 mm2. Enzyme showed maximum activity at 35°C and pH 7.0 with glucose as an important medium component. It was strongly activated by metal ions, such as, Ca+2 ion. Protease from PCSIR EA-3 can easily be used in food industry, especially in cheese manufacturing due to its thermostability at neutral pH

    Background: Physiotherapists as providers of primary health care are well placed in promoting physical activity and lifestyles changes, but the role and practice of physiotherapist towards its promotion among obese individuals has not been fully investigated. The objective of this study is to examine perceptions of Karachi physiotherapists regarding their role in management of obesity, the learning needs for, and hurdles facing by them in the rehabilitation. Methods: It was cross-sectional survey that has been conducted among 100 Physiotherapists from three tertiary care hospitals & universities of Karachi from April to June 2013. There has been used Self-administered questionnaire and sampling was Convenient Purposive sampling in qualitative research. Descriptive statistics were calculated for all variables using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17. Questionnaire was intended to determine physiotherapist’s perceptions of their role and consisted of questions about respondent’s demographics profile, practice and domains related to management of obesity and associated conditions. Result: In this study 93% of participants agreed that physiotherapists has role in the management of patients with obesity by developing exercise interventions.95% plays role in functional mobility and 94%in cardio respiratory training programme. In this study participants were found less aware about weight loss management. Barrier found in patient treatment is due to lack of patient motivation. Conclusion: This study revealed physiotherapist played important role in patient rehabilitation management with obesity, especially in a area of mobility and exercise prescription for conditions associated with obesity. In future there is need to take into account the different perspectives of physical therapy and with a larger sample size representing all four states of Pakistan
