    Get PDF

AbstractIn the present study, measurements on the solubility of CO2 based on the pressure drop method in mixtures of (choline chloride (ChCl) + glycerol) + L-arginine at various molar ratios (1:2:0, 1:2:0.1, 1:2:0.2, 1:3:0, 1:3:0.1, 1:3:0.2, 1:4:0, 1:4:0.1 and 1:4:0.2) were experimentally screened at 303.15K and pressures up to approximately 20bar. Based on the results of this screening, (ChCl + glycerol) + L-arginine mixture at 1:2:0.1 molar ratio exhibited the highest solubility of CO2 and further experimental measurements on the solubility of CO2 in this mixture were carried out at temperatures ranging from 303.15 to 323.15K and pressures up to approximately 70bar. The effect of L-arginine on the solubility of CO2 in ChCl + glycerol based DESs were observed. The results showed that L-arginine improved the solubility of CO2 in (ChCl + glycerol) + L-arginine mixtures. Besides, the solubility of CO2 increased with increasing pressure and decreased with increasing temperature. Henry's law constant, enthalpy and entropy of dissolution were calculated from the correlation of experimental solubility data

    Internationalisation of small-medium size enterprises

In recent years Malaysia has demonstrated a remarkable and impressive growth record which is the envy of many other countries. A concerted effort to sustain this pace of development and to achieve fully industrialised nation status by 2020 is currently undenvay, with the contribution of small-medium sized enterprises (SMl's) seen as a critical and integral pan of this industrial thrust. The potential role of SMI's is emphasised in areas such as job creation, rural development, support infrastructure for large organisations and the earning of revenues from exporting activity

Mixed Matrix Membranes Comprising of ZIF-8 Nanofillers for Enhanced Gas Transport Properties

AbstractIn the current research, mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) comprising of 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt% of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) were incorporated into 6FDA-durene polyimide phase. The effect of ZIF-8 loading on the membrane performance of CO2 and CH4 separation was investigated. The excellent compatibility and good distribution of ZIF-8 nanofiller in 6FDA-durene polyimide phase even at higher ZIF-8 loading up to 20 wt% has resulted in the increment of CO2 permeability and CO2/CH4 selectivity compared to pure membrane. In this work, 6FDA-durene loaded with 10 wt% ZIF-8 demonstrated impressive CO2 permeability of 1426.75 Barrer with CO2/CH4 selectivity of 28.70, which successfully surpassed the Robeson 2008 upper bound

Effect of Liquid Flow Rate and Amine Concentration on CO 2 Removal from Natural Gas at High Pressure Operation in Packed Absorption Column

Abstract. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions such as carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and methane (CH 4 ) from oil and natural gas operation at offshore platforms have significant contribution to global warming. The reduction of these GHG emissions is possible through CO 2 capture technology. This study reports the absorption performance of monoethanolamine (MEA) for the removal of CO 2 from natural gas (NG) at high pressure conditions. The absorption experiments were performed in an absorption column packed with Sulzer Metal Gauze Packing at 5.0 MPa operating pressure. The absorption performance was evaluated in terms of CO 2 removal (%) with liquid flow rate ranging from 1.81 to 4.51 m 3 /m 2 .h and MEA concentration of 1.0 -4.0 kmol/m 3 . It was found that CO 2 removal (%) had increased with increasing liquid flow rate and MEA concentration

Application of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) in Prioritizing HAZOP Analysis for Pilot Plant

Injuries, accidents or even fatalities while working in pilot plant are reported worldwide. The implementation of process hazards analysis (PHA) in pilot plant is expected to further reduce the risks of accidents. Hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis is one of the most widely used methods for PHA. Generally, the outcome of HAZOP analysis could results in identifying large number of hazards thus poses a challenge for assessors to take actions in dealing with all the hazards. The common practice in prioritizing the critical hazards is based on assessors’ experience through deductive judgment using rating scale, taking into consideration safety and the associated costs. However the novel operations and process used, unproven or changing technology, and lack of safety information due to developmental stages have led to poor hazards prioritization and difficulty in selecting actions. This paper presents an application of analytical hierarchy process (AHP) in prioritizing HAZOP analysis for pilot plant. Through this approach, the significant hazards identified using HAZOP will be quantitatively weighted and ranked based on their priority along with the appropriate counter measures to be taken. Application of this approach at the high pressure CO2-hydrocarbon absorption system pilot plants as case study showed that the proposed methodology is capable of identifying and ranking the significant hazards in the process following HAZOP analysis. This is particularly useful as a leading indicator to process designers/engineers/researcher in prioritizing their efforts and resources on more significant hazards, hence prevent accidents of the pilot plant

Enhancing classroom engagement through padlet as a learning tool: a case study

Activities conducted in classrooms are important to acquire students’ understanding and participation in a learning environment. Some of perceived barriers that prevent students to participate in classroom activities include difficulty to speak, shy, fear to interact or provide comments. This paper focuses on using Padlet for e-learning and presents the activities of engaging and stimulating students in active learning. This is one way of how instructors can obtain information from each student by encouraging participation. The research employs quantitative approach. A semi-structured questionnaire was distributed among 39 postgraduate students who enrolled in the Business Statistics for Data Science course. Factors such as motivation, active learning, collaboration, learning opportunity, usefulness, ease of use, and satisfaction were used to measure their engagement. The findings show that active learning through Padlet has a significant effect on improving students’ engagement in classroom activities
