Integrating Digital Response Systems Within a Diversity of Agricultural Audiences

    Get PDF
Extension educators have new computer-assisted tools as audience response systems (clickers) for increasing educational effectiveness and improving assessment by facilitating client input. From 2010-2012, 26 sessions involving 1093 participants in six diverse client categories demonstrated wide audience acceptance and suitability of clickers in agricultural and horticultural programming. Farmers, ag students, and Master Gardeners provided anonymous information using wireless clickers. Analyzed data was shared in each session. Such user-friendly technology improved pedagogy with rapid and sustained learner engagement and through enhanced peer-to-peer instruction. Pre-post assessment and re-teaching techniques provided documentation for group demographics, educational evaluation, and programmatic impacts

Consumers' Shopping Patterns and Expenditures on Ethnic Produce: A Case Study from the Eastern Coastal U.S.A.

This study was undertaken to examine the possible niche markets which East Coast farmers might be able to use to regain their advantage. Their future economic success could hinge on shifting the focus from traditional fruits and vegetables to high-value specialty ethnic produce for which there might be a growing demand. The study results indicate that there is a strong market demand and interest for ethnic produce in the East Coast. Local producers can benefit by concentrating their efforts in producing ethnic vegetables and fresh produce and making these newer products available in the local and regional markets.Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,

Ethnic Crop Opportunities for Growers on the East Coast: A Demand Assessment

We examined the potential for expansion of production of ethnic crops on the U.S. East Coast by commercial farmers from a market-first and economic perspective based on consumer demand. A survey of consumers from four ethnic groups showed that the ethnic crops in greatest demand are as follows: Chinese—Baby Pak Choy, Oriental Eggplant, and Smooth Luffa; Asian Indians—Bottle Gourd, Indian Eggplant, and Bitter Melon; Mexicans—Chili Jalapeno and Tomatillo; Hispanic—Aji Dulce, Batata, and Pepinillo/Bitter gourd. Results of the study have important implications to assist local growers in deciding to produce ethnic crops

RISC-V Processor Technologies for Aerospace Applications in the ISOLDE Project

Modern space applications impose significant challenges to the design of hardware and software platforms. Beyond traditional applications such as avionics, Attitude Orbit Control, and signal/telemetry processing, new developments increasingly leverage Machine Learning models to enhance the autonomy of spacecraft. Such AI-based functionalities promise significant advantages, but require computing power beyond what can be provided by current on-board platforms. At the same time, the challenge of technological sovereignty requires a move towards open hardware and software. To achieve these objectives, within the KDT ISOLDE project started in 2023, we propose the development of a new family of processors for AI-based applications to be deployed on board of satellites. In this paper, we showcase some examples of space applications with their requirements, and highlight the possible solutions as well as the corresponding work that will be carried out in ISOLDE, and the expected results
