    The long X-ray tail in Zwicky 8338

    The interaction processes in galaxy clusters between the hot ionized gas (ICM) and the member galaxies are of crucial importance in order to understand the dynamics in galaxy clusters, the chemical enrichment processes and the validity of their hydrostatic mass estimates. Recently, several X-ray tails associated to gas which was partly stripped of galaxies have been discovered. Here we report on the X-ray tail in the 3 keV galaxy cluster Zwicky 8338, which might be the longest ever observed. We derive the properties of the galaxy cluster environment and give hints on the substructure present in this X-ray tail, which is very likely associated to the galaxy CGCG254-021. The X-ray tail is extraordinarily luminous (2Ă—10422\times10^{42} erg/s), the thermal emission has a temperature of 0.8 keV and the X-ray luminous gas might be stripped off completely from the galaxy. From the assumptions on the 3D geometry we estimate the gas mass fraction (< 0.1%) and conclude that the gas has been compressed and/or heated.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted by A&

    Enabling Communication Technologies for Automated Unmanned Vehicles in Industry 4.0

    Within the context of Industry 4.0, mobile robot systems such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are one of the major areas challenging current communication and localization technologies. Due to stringent requirements on latency and reliability, several of the existing solutions are not capable of meeting the performance required by industrial automation applications. Additionally, the disparity in types and applications of unmanned vehicle (UV) calls for more flexible communication technologies in order to address their specific requirements. In this paper, we propose several use cases for UVs within the context of Industry 4.0 and consider their respective requirements.     A Comprehensive and Individual Perspective: A New Model for Assessing Missionary Needs in Order to Prevent Burnout

    In the last 20-30 years, missionary burnout has become a popular topic in the missionary care and support community. Although much research has been done on the issue, few studies have provided a comprehensive approach to the study and appropriate care of these missionaries. The goal of this research was to present a model that more accurately represented missionary struggles while incorporating past findings on missionary burnout. Four retired missionaries were interviewed about their experiences on the field, and their estimation of the model’s relevancy and helpfulness. Despite similar experiences amongst the participants, the responses further confirmed the individual nature of the struggles missionaries face. The interview data supported the model, and provided further steps for research and development

    Transmission X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy of the Solid Electrolyte Interphase on Silicon Anodes for Li-ion Batteries

    Die Röntgenabsorptionsspektroskopie (XAS) ist eine element-spezifische Charakterisierungs-methode, welche es erlaubt die elektronische und chemische Struktur der SEI zu untersuchen. In dieser Arbeit stelle ich ein neues Verfahren vor, das die Transmissions-XAS von Flüssigkeiten und Dünnschicht-Batterieelektroden unter in-situ Bedingungen mit weicher Röntgenstrahlung ermöglicht. Thematisch ist die Arbeit in zwei Teile gegliedert. Das neuartige Verfahren wird zunächst umfangreich vorgestellt und dann zur Untersuchung der Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) auf Silizium angewendet. Das Verfahren basiert auf einer elektrochemischen Halbzelle, die mit einem Stapel aus zwei Siliziumnitrid-Membranfenster ausgestattet ist, um den Elektrolyten einzuschließen. Eines der Membranfenster ist gleichzeitig der Träger für die Dünnschicht-Siliziumanode, die Ladezyklen mit einer Kathode aus metallischem Lithium durchläuft. Nachdem sich die SEI gebildet hat, wird mittels eines Röntgenstrahls von hoher Intensität vorsätzlich eine Blase erzeugt, um überschüssigen Elektrolyten abzudrängen und einen dünnen Elektrolytfilm über der SEI zu stabilisieren. Durch den Elektrolytfilm bleibt die SEI in-situ. Das erzeugte System aus Blase, Elektrolytfilm, SEI und Siliziumanode wird dann mittels Transmissions-XAS untersucht. Im zweiten Teil meiner Arbeit werden dann Silizium Dünnschicht-Anoden mit dem vorgestellten Verfahren am Elektronenspeicherring BESSY II in Berlin untersucht. Bei der elektrochemischen Charakterisierung zeigen die Dünnschicht-anoden alle für die De-/Lithiierung von Silizium üblichen Merkmale. Als Hauptbestandteile der SEI wurden Lithiumacetat, Li Ethylendicarbonat oder -monocarbonat, Li Acetylacetonat, LiOH und LiF ermittelt. Darüber hinaus deuten Anzeichen von Aldehyden auf flüssige Einschlüsse in einer möglich-erweise porösen SEI Struktur hin.X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) is an element-specific technique, which allows to probe the electronic and chemical structure of the SEI. In this work, I introduce a novel approach for transmission XAS on liquids and thin-film battery electrode materials under in-situ conditions in the soft X-ray regime. Thematically, this work is divided into two parts: 1) the introduction of this novel method and 2) its application to investigate the Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) on silicon thin film anodes. The presented technique is based on an electrochemical half-cell equipped with a sandwich of two silicon nitride membrane windows to encapsulate the electrolyte. One of the membranes acts as substrate for the silicon thin-film anode, which is cycled with a metallic lithium counter-electrode. After the SEI has formed, a gas bubble is intentionally introduced through radiolysis by a high intensity X-ray to push out excessive electrolyte and stabilize a thin electrolyte layer on top of the SEI, keeping it in-situ. The obtained stack comprised of bubble, electrolyte thin-layer, SEI and anode, is then probed with transmission XAS. The second part of this work utilizes the presented method to investigate the SEI on amorphous silicon anodes at the BESSY II synchrotron facility in Berlin. The anodes’ electrochemical characterization shows all significant features of silicon’s de-/lithiation. The SEI’s main components are determined as Li acetate, Li ethylene di-carbonate or Li ethylene mono-carbonate, Li acetylacetonate, LiOH, and LiF. Additionally, the evidence for aldehyde species indicates possible liquid inclusions within a presumably porous SEI morphology

    While over 20 states considered so-called bathroom bills between 2013-2016, only one state, North Carolina, passed one - in the form of House Bill 2. House Bill 2 modified North Carolina’s non-discrimination legislation, as well as restricting access to multi-user restrooms on the basis of sex designated on one’s birth certificate, which would require some transgender men to use the women’s restroom. The debate between those for and against HB2 raged in the press, the legal system, and finally at the ballot box. An analysis of the first two months of coverage indicates how frames were used by each side in different areas and over time. This paper demonstrates how the Pro side majorly focused on one frame, Safety, whereas the Anti side spread out their arguments across several different frames. Additionally, it shows how outside events, such as a letter from the federal Department of Justice and announcements of business boycotts, can impact which frames are relevant and to whom

    Investigating the cores of fossil systems with Chandra

    We investigate the cores of fossil galaxy groups and clusters (`fossil systems') using archival Chandra data for a sample of 17 fossil systems. We determined the cool-core fraction for fossils via three observable diagnostics, the central cooling time, cuspiness, and concentration parameter. We quantified the dynamical state of the fossils by the X-ray peak/brightest cluster galaxy (BCG), and the X-ray peak/emission weighted centre separations. We studied the X-ray emission coincident with the BCG to detect the presence of potential thermal coronae. A deprojection analysis was performed for z < 0.05 fossils to obtain cooling time and entropy profiles, and to resolve subtle temperature structures. We investigated the Lx-T relation for fossils from the 400d catalogue to see if the scaling relation deviates from that of other groups. Most fossils are identified as cool-core objects via at least two cool-core diagnostics. All fossils have their dominant elliptical galaxy within 50 kpc of the X-ray peak, and most also have the emission weighted centre within that distance. We do not see clear indications of a X-ray corona associated with the BCG unlike that has been observed for some other objects. Fossils do not have universal temperature profiles, with some low-temperature objects lacking features that are expected for ostensibly relaxed objects with a cool-core. The entropy profiles of the z < 0.05 fossil systems can be well-described by a power law model, albeit with indices smaller than 1. The 400d fossils Lx-T relation shows indications of an elevated normalisation with respect to other groups, which seems to persist even after factoring in selection effects.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysic
