Arc tracking control in insulation systems for aeronautic applications: challenges, opportunities, and research needs
Next generation aircrafts will use more electrical power to reduce weight, fuel consumption, system complexity and greenhouse gas emissions. However, new failure modes and challenges arise related to the required voltage increase and consequent rise of electrical stress on wiring insulation materials, thus increasing the risk of electrical arc appearance. This work performs a critical and comprehensive review concerning arc tracking effects in wiring insulation systems, underlying mechanisms, role of materials and possible mitigation strategies, with a special focus on aircraft applications. To this end an evaluation of the scientific and technological state of the art is carried out from the analysis of theses, research articles, technical reports, international standards and white papers. This review paper also reports the limitations of existing insulation materials, standard test methods and mitigation approaches, while identifying the research needs to comply with the future demands of the aircraft industryPeer ReviewedPostprint (published version

In the title complex, [Rh(C6H16P2)2][RhCl2(C8H12)], the asymmetric unit contains two [Rh(dmpe)2] [dmpe = 1,2-bisÂ(dimethylÂphosphino)ethane] half-cations, lying on inversion centers, and an [RhCl2(cod)]â (cod = 1,5-cycloÂoctaÂdiene) anion, wherein Rh is coordinated by two chloride ligands and two olefinic Ï-bonds of the cycloÂoctaÂdiene ligand. The Rh atoms in the cations and anion exhibit square-planar coordination and are separated without any unusual interÂactions
Chiral symmetry restoration from the hadronic regime
We discuss recent advances on QCD chiral symmetry restoration at finite temperature, within the theoretical framework of Effective Theories. U(3) Ward Identities are derived between pseudoscalar susceptibilities and quark condensates, allowing to explain the behaviour of lattice meson screening masses. Unitarized interactions and the generated fâ(500) thermal state are showed to play an essential role in the description of the transition through the scalar susceptibility
Organotin(IV)-Decorated Graphene Quantum Dots as Dual Platform for Molecular Imaging and Treatment of Triple Negative Breast Cancer
[ Abstract] The pharmacological activity of organotin(IV) complexes in cancer therapy is well recognized but their large applicability is hampered by their poor water solubility. Hence, carbon dots, in particular nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs), may be a promising alternative for the efficient delivery of organotin(IV) compounds as they have a substantial aqueous solubility, a good chemical stability, and non-toxicity as well as a bright photoluminescence that make them ideal for theranostic applications against cancer. Two different multifunctional nanosystems have been synthesized and fully characterized based on two fragments of organotin-based cytotoxic compounds and 4-formylbenzoic acid (FBA), covalently grafted onto the NGQDs surface. Subsequently, an inâ
vitro determination of the therapeutic and theranostic potential of the achieved multifunctional systems was carried out. The results showed a high cytotoxic potential of the NGQDs-FBA-Sn materials against breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231) and a lower effect on a non-cancer cell line (kidney cells, HEK293T). Besides, thanks to their optical properties, the dots enabled their fluorescence molecular imaging in the cytoplasmatic region of the cells pointing towards a successful cellular uptake and a release of the metallodrug inside cancer cells (NGQDs-FBA-Sn).This work was supported by Operational Program Research, Development, and Education-Project âMSCAfellow4@MUNIâ (No. CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/20_079/0017045) and the Spanish Ministry of Universities for a Maria Zambrano funding (RSU.UDC.MZ09 [RSU.UDC.MZ11]) transferred by the European Union-Next Generation EU. Four 7-oxo-5-phenyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (HftpO) first-row transition complexes (Cu, Co, Ni, Zn) have been studied for the first time in vitro against five different species of Leishmania spp. (L. infantum, L. braziliensis, L. donovani, L. peruviana and L. mexicana) as well as Trypanosoma cruzi, showing higher efficacy than the reference commercial drugs. UV and luminescence properties were also evaluated. As a proof of concept, anchoring of a model high-effective-metal complex as an antiparasitic agent on silica nanoparticles was carried out for the first time, and drug-release behaviour was evaluated, assessing this new approach for drug vehiculation.MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ RTI2018-094322-B-I00, RED2022-134091-TERDF A way of making EuropeEuropean UnionJunta de AndalucĂ
Preparation and Study of the Antibacterial Applications and Oxidative Stress Induction of Copper Maleamate-Functionalized Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles
Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are an interesting class of nanomaterials with
potential applications in different therapeutic areas and that have been extensively used as drug
carriers in different fields of medicine. The present work is focused on the synthesis of MSNs
containing a maleamato ligand (MSN-maleamic) and the subsequent coordination of copper(II) ions
(MSN-maleamic-Cu) for the exploration of their potential application as antibacterial agents. The
Cu-containing nanomaterials have been characterized by different techniques and the preliminary
antibacterial effect of the supported maleamato-copper(II) complexes has been tested against two
types of bacteria (Gram positive and Gram negative) in different assays to determine the minimum
inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). The biological
results showed a moderate antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli which motivated a more
detailed study of the antibacterial mechanism of action of the synthesized maleamate-containing
nanosystems and whose findings showed oxidative stress generation in bacterial cells. All the
prepared nanomaterials were also tested as catalysts in the âsolvent freeâ selective oxidation of
benzyl alcohol, to observe if there is a potential correlation between the catalytic oxidation capacity
of the materials and the observed oxidative stress in bacteria. This may help in the future, for
a more accurate rational design of antibacterial nanosystems, based on their observed catalytic
oxidation activity. This research was funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, InnovaciĂłn y Universidades Spain-FEDER, grants
